Celery Street - Review & Giveaway

If you are buying something for yourself or someone else, why not make it an item that is eco-friendly?! At Celery Street, you can find all sorts of great products that are reused, recycled, and refurbished. That doesn't mean it's any less quality. It just means that they are making a difference in the world with the line of products they carry.

My youngest son likes to draw and these colored pencils would be right up his alley. What's great about these colored pencils is that they are made of recycled newspapers, non toxic water-based glue, and non toxic paint.

Of course, by now, most of us know that bottled water is harmful to the environment. Celery Street has lots of water bottles with neat designs so you can do your part in keeping the environment clean. I am particularly fond of the Cool Canteen line of water bottles. The designs are catchy and unlike any I've seen on other water bottles.

I received a Good Dog Writing Journal for review. The binder boards are made with 100% recycled paper and the acid-free paper is made with only sustainable forest pulp. First off, the design makes me smile every time I see it. It is too "doggone" cute. I have to admit that I've not been using this for a journal, although it is perfect for that. I carry it around with me to write down thoughts and events I need to blog about, things I need to do, and other important notes. It has been very helpful in keeping things scheduled. There is a ribbon for me to place where I need to keep my page and the magnetic closure ensures that it opens when I want and closes when I choose. So not only is it amusing to look at, it is also a great book to write in.

Handcrafted jewelry, candles, rugs, apparel, and address books are just a small list of things you'll find at Celery Street. First-time customers save 10% off their first order when making a purchase online.

My Black Friday Buys

I did not make it out to the Black Friday sales due to other obligations, but there were a couple of people who were kind enough to shop for me. (Thanks Tina and Justine!)

I found, according to the ads, that Wal-Mart had the best deals this year. However, they were also one of the busiest. Here's what my comrads scored for me:

An Epson scanner/printer - I can't wait to hook it up to the computer and play with it. This was a gift to me from me. On sale for $25.

Two pair of pajama sets - One has Disney princess print and the other has Spongebob print. These will be a gift for my great-niece. On sale for $3 a set.

Four bath towels - These are super nice and also for me. I was in need of some new towels but never wanted to pay the price that's usually charged. They were on sale for $2 a piece.

Two sets of washcloths - They came in a bundle of 12 washcloths. One set is for me and the other is for my mother-in-law. On sale for $3 a bundle.

Three board games - One is The Game of Life - Twists & Turns. Another is The Game of Life - Extreme Reality. The last one is Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader - Second Edition. They were on sale for $5 a piece and will be Christmas gifts for the kids.

Did you go shopping on Black Friday? Get any great deals? I'd love to hear about them.

Rugs USA - Review

If you're in the market for rugs, chances are very good that you'll find what you're looking for at Rugs USA. The options are endless. You can search for rugs by color, material, weave, shape, size, and price. Shipping to the contiguous United States is free for all items, which I always like to see companies offer. Not only is the free shipping awesome, but Rugs USA will also match the competitor's price if you find the same rug at a lower price elsewhere online.
There's no need to shop a bunch of different stores for the rug you're looking for. You can easily search, browse, and find what you are looking for at Rugs USA.
I received the Fun Rugs Olive Collection Running Wild Multi Rug for review. It makes a great accent to my boys' room. When camping season starts again, I will add it to our camper to match the decor. The rug was just as good of quality as any other I would buy elsewhere.

I received product for review. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products.

P.B. Loco - Review & Promotional Code

What's a girl got to do to get a P.B. Loco around here? I live in a fairly large town with lots of food chains. However, there's no P.B. Loco in the area. I'm sure if there was, I'd be a frequent visitor. I'd love to try their signature sandwiches such as the as the Razzlie Dazzlie and the Tropical Twist.

Since there's no cafe in my area, I'm pleased to know I can buy their specialty peanut butter online. I was given the opportunity to sample the Peanut Butter with Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough and the Peanut Butter with Jungle Banana.

I didn't know there were so many flavor combination possibilities to go with peanut butter. The two that I tried were yummy. I got sample sizes and ate them right out of the containers. Good thing they sell full size jars because it'll take all you've got to keep from eating this delicious peanut butter by yourself and you'll want more.

All of their peanut butters contain zero grams trans fat and has an abundance of nutrients. Compared to the kind I usually eat, I noticed that P.B. Loco peanut butter is of a thinner consistency than most. It didn't stick to the roof of my mouth. I ate my peanut butter right out of the container with a spoon. It'd be great on sandwiches, crackers, or just by itself.

If you sign up for "Free Stuff" at P.B. Loco you will receive coupons to use at their online store. Also, spend $30 or more at P.B. Loco online and receive a FREE jar of P.B. Loco Dreamy Creamy Peanut Butter. To redeem this coupon, place $30 or more of merchandise in your shopping cart at P.B. Loco then enter coupon code BLOG1209 when you checkout. A free jar will be added to your order. Offer expires December 25, 2009.

Wordful Wednesday - Thanksgiving

As I mentioned in my Random Tuesday Thoughts post, my family and I already celebrated Thanksgiving. We do this due to other obligations that we all have on the actual day of. Surprisingly, I didn't take a million photos this time. Here are a few that I got:

The food, including the rolls, was absolutely delicious. Some of the offerings were turkey, corn casserole, pumpkin pie, sugar cookies, broccoli casserole, chicken & noodles, mashed potatoes, and sooo much more.

This is the newly married couple of the family, Justin and Yolanda.

My oldest daughter, Shelby

Me with my hubby.

We also celebrated my niece's 27th birthday. Nothing like combining the occasions!

If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wenesday, link up at 7 Clown Circus. I'd like to wish all my readers and followers a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving!

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Whose Team Are You On?

randomtuesday

My family's Thanksgiving feast is over and I've gained five pounds. I ate until my insides hurt. We celebrate Thanksgiving every year the Sunday before at my sister's house. Food, food, food everywhere. It was a delicious delight! We also drew names of who we'll be buying Christmas gifts for this year. As for the actual day, I think we'll just do a small meal at the house. Nothing extra fancy.

After the feast, a few of us got together and went to see New Moon in the theater. It's rare that I go anywhere or do anything that doesn't involve the kids or husband. Not that I mind being with them, but it was refreshing to do my own thing. If you know anything about Twilight, then I'm sure you've heard of the books and movies. Some people are die-hards. I consider myself somewhere in the middle. I like the series, but I'm not gaga over the whole sensation. I read the first book and was drawn in. However, the second book bored me to tears and I couldn't finish it.

New Moon is based upon the second Twilight series novel. I got my tickets in advance and it's a good thing I did. The movie sold out quickly and it was packed elbow to elbow. Of course when Jacob arrived on scene, girls swooned. The same was done for Edward. I'm not overly crazy about either of them. Although they're great actors, I'm not a swooner for either. I'd say that I'm more of a Team Bella kind of person. She's pimpin' it with two guys!

The movie was enjoyable, much better than the book for me. I found that it's necessary to watch the first movie or read the books before watching this or it may be over your head.

I've gotten a bunch of Christmas presents wrapped. Since the tree's not up, they're all sitting in a pile on my kitchen floor. I think we may get the tree put up sometime next weekend. I'm finally getting into the Christmas spirit. Although I still think this year has gone waayyyyy to fast for me.

If you'd like to participate in Random Tuesday Thoughts, link up at The Un Mom.

Vat19 - Review

Are you looking for a Christmas gift for that someone who has everything? Do you want to present a gift you're sure no one else will give? You can find all sorts of nifty and unusual products at Vat 19. Vat19 is an online source for "curiously awesome" products.

Vat 19 was started and is operated by St. Louis native Jamie Salvatori. I've been to St. Louis many times, but am ashamed to say I had not heard of Vat 19 until recently. While browsing the site, I took notice of the way products are presented. For every item offered, there is a video available for play that showcases the product and how it's used. There's also a descriptive overview. For information and for fun, you can ask questions about a certain product and the staff will answer it. You can also read the answers that people have asked, some funny and some very informative.

I can think of many guys in my family who would be thrilled to receive this Finger Drums Tabletop Electric Drum Set.

I received the Nuscup Adjustable Measuring Cup and Scoop. It is quite the handy dandy gadget to have in the kitchen. I had to wait until my husband gave it a try first. I obliged since he is generally the cook of the house. After him, it was my turn. We both agreed that this measuring scoop is a needed accessory for the kitchen. Instead of having multiple measuring cups out to use and wash, all we had to use was this. It was simple and made measuring ingredients much easier. For liquid ingredients, I didn't have to worry about any spilling out. All I had to do was fill the Nuscup and pull back the slider so the liquids weren't set at the very top. Measurements are listed in both English and metric.

As you can tell from the picture above, there's lots of features that make this Nuscup Adjustable Measuring Cup and Scoop a great addition to the kitchen.

I received product for review. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Your opinion may differ. Please do your own research before purchasing products.

Blog Hop - Ways To Save Money

This week's Blog Hop theme is suggestions on ways to save money. There are some products and services that I will pay full price for just because I really like it or it's worth the price paid in full. However, I try to save money and pinch pennies in lots of ways. Here are some suggestions, ones that I use, to save money.

1. Plan your meals around whatever grocery items are on sale that week. - If tomato sauce, beans, and crackers are on sale then chili is one of the meals that will be served.

2. Get email alerts for stores you shop at. - Lots of times they will include discounts and savings for those signed up for the newsletters.

3. Get your clothes at yard sales, thrift shops, or on sale. - With six kids who grow quickly and stain things up, I cannot imagine paying an exorbitant amount of money on something just for the name. My kids wear brand name clothing, but I always get them on sale, at a yard sale, or even as hand-me-downs from others.

4. Buy gifts for the holidays and special occasions when they are on sale. - I buy gifts throughout the year. If someone's birthday isn't for a few months but I've found something at a great price they'll like, I'll buy that item and store it in the closet until the occasion arises.

5. Use coupons - I keep my coupons with me at all times. Sometimes stores will have items marked down without putting it in the circular or announcing it. For instance, there will be a clearance price on toothpaste and with coupons I have on hand, I can get it at a very deeply discounted price.

Here are just a few tips. I know there's more, but I can't think of them right now. I'm interested in your tips. Do you have any that you think would be helpful for me?

Piggy Paint - Review & Discount Code

Having five girls in the household, including myself, we like to primp and pamper ourselves. However, it's hard to paint our nails or remove the polish unless there's a lot of ventilation. From my experience, the fumes from a lot of polishes and removers are so strong that they bother the people in the vicinity and makes me feel like I'm inhaling a lung full of nasty chemicals. Piggy Paint has solved the problem of eliminating toxic and strong-smelling polishes and removers with their products.

Piggy Paint is the brainchild of Melanie Hurley, and her line of specially formulated polishes are made with natural ingredients. I received their Forever Fancy nail polish and a bottle of the nail polish remover. Us girls sat down at the table and had a fun time of painting our nails and toes. We were able to do it without the smell of fumes in the air and the paint worked as well as any other brand of polish. Piggy Paint received a big thumbs (and fingers and toes) up from all of us.

You can purchase Piggy Paint separately or in gift packs of two polishes with remover. During the month of November you can receive the "Jingle Nail Rock" gift pack at a reduced price.

Piggy Paint is offering a discount code to my readers. This coupon code entitles you to 15% off anything on their website, including sale items. The discount code is PARTY15L and expires December 31, 2009. Spend over $25 and domestic shipping is free. That's quite a deal! Also, be sure to follow Piggy Paint on Twitter for secret sales and special offers. This line of nail polishes would make a great gift for that special little girl in your life.

Coupons A La Cart Coupon Carton - Review & Giveaway

Coupons are a staple for me when shopping. I cannot imagine paying full price for something when I can get it at a reduced price. I had been using a coupon holder of sorts to compile all my coupons. Although it worked fine for the most part, I had a problem with the coupons easily falling out.

I received the Coupons A La Cart Coupon Carton , which was innovated by Patty Sachs in 1980, and was immediately set to try it. It is made of sturdy cardboard and needed some assembling. It reminded me of assembling a pizza box in that I needed to fold corners and tabs. This did not require a lot of work, just some knowing of how to insert tabs and corners in certain places. It came with instructions on how to get your carton all set up. Being already assembled would be more preferred, but I imagine that it's better with the mail system that it comes packaged flat.

Included were divider cards with category stickers to sort your coupons for certain types of products. Or you can write on the divider cards yourself to your liking. What I like most about the Coupons A La Cart Coupon Carton is that it can be placed on the handle of your shopping cart. This makes it easy to look at your coupons at a glance to know which ones you have. I also have room in it to include a calculator and pen.

When not in use, the carton stays closed with a velcro fastener so my coupons do not scatter everywhere. This is a nice system to keep your coupons organized and at hand when shopping. I'd like to see more designs available. As of this time, there is only one.

You can watch a TV appearance clip of Patty Sachs with her Coupons A La Cart here.

Flirty Aprons - Review & Giveaway

I'm not the main cook in my household. My husband usually has that responsibility. I do, however, get in a baking mood at times and can make quite the mess doing it. With my new apron from Flirty Aprons, I can look and feel fabulous while baking.

Flirty Aprons has designer kitchen aprons for everyone. By everyone, I mean women, men, and children. There's no need to wear an apron with a design from yesteryear when you can get one with cool, edgy designs.

I received the Women's Apron Original Party Pink and was wowed with the vibrant design and colors. There's a reason that flirty is in the name of this company; that's how my husband felt when he saw me wearing it! This apron is so cute that you almost don't want to wear it and get food all over it. But I've done just that, and have washed it in my regular cycle with it coming out looking great every time.

I can't wait to wear this super cute apron during my family's annual Candy/Cookie Day in December. I'm pretty positive the girls of the family will take notice of the apron I'll be wearing.

The children's aprons are just darling. Getting a matching set for you and your child would make the time spent together in the kitchen extra special.

Win It!
One winner will receive their choice of apron. Winner can choose from the men's, women's, or children's aprons.

Wordful Wednesday - The Little Ones

I'm not able to have anymore kids and my "babies" aren't babies anymore. Therefore, I'm glad that my family keeps growing with nieces and nephews. It's great to have little ones running around. Here's pics of a few of my loved ones:

This is my nephew, Alec. He's all boy and full of energy.

This is my great-niece, Faythe; otherwise known as Peanut. The black ball of fur she's holding is her toy poodle, Buddy.

This is my great-niece, Imani. She's the quietest of them all.

This is my great-niece, Emma. I don't get to see her often. She's a country girl at heart.

This is my great-niece, Madelyn. She's such a happy baby.

The family will have a new addition in the near future. My brother and his companion are having their second child in April, so I'll be an auntie once again. Yay!

If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, link up at 7 Clown Circus.

Blog Hop - My Favorite Book

This week's blog hop theme is "My Favorite Book". The questions asked is what is your favorite book and why?

I'm an avid book reader and one of my favorite ways to relax is by curling up on the couch and reading a good book. The supply of books to be read is endless and books take me to a new world and experience each time I read one.

One book that is my all-time favorite is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. For one, the hometown of Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens is a short drive from where I live and I've visited Hannibal, MO many times to get a glimpse of his life and literary works. I'm fascinated with the books and adventures. I once wrote a report in junior high on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I did so well on the report that my name was recognized in the school paper for my outstanding job.

What is your favorite book and why?

Peter Pauper Press - Review & Giveaway

When visiting other cities and towns I like to go into the gift shops and see all the cute books, trinkets, and treasures they have to offer. These kind of shops seem to offer things that are one-of-a-kind. I imagine that Peter Pauper Press is an online version of one of these shops.

Peter Pauper Press was founded in 1928 and publishes approximately 100 books and ancillary products per year. Their product line includes gift kits, books, stationery, journals, holiday cards, and more. For orders of $30 or more, shipping is free.

The Brainiac's Mindbenders Activity Book was a hit with my children. Included were crosswords, mystery rhymes, riddles, word play, connect the spots, and more. This activity book was a fun challenge for the kids. They liked trying out the different activities and comparing answers to see who got what right.

Did you know that in 1923 President Calvin Coolidge lit the National Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve, beginning an annual tradition at the White House? Did you know that in 1939 the first live radio broadcast of Dicken's A Christmas Carol aired on Christmas Eve? Or that in 1998 the world's largest gingerbread man, 11 feet tall, was made by high school students in The Woodlands, Texas? These are just a few of the facts listed in A Century of Christmas Memories.

A Century of Christmas Memories was a nice book to read with the kids. With the holidays nearing, this book was just what we needed to get in the spirit of things. This keepsake book took us from the 1900s to the 1990s. It is jam-packed with facts and photos in regards to all things Christmas.

For something special at Christmas for the child in your life, Peter Pauper Press offers kids activity books. One such book is The Nutcracker Ballet Fold-Out Play Set. The story of the Nutcracker comes to life with this book, theater, and paper doll play set. This 24-page book includes more than 35 paper doll characters that a child can use to mimic the scenes.

ecostore USA - Review & Giveaway

I would consider myself somewhere in the middle when it comes to being eco-friendly. There's a lot more I could be doing, but I've been taking steps to becoming more aware of the things I do and products I purchase so I can do my part in helping preserve the environment.

Ecostore USA is a company that is taking huge strides in developing products that are free of nasty chemicals, gentle on the skin, and eco-friendly. All of their products are made from plant- and mineral-based ingredients, free of toxic chemicals.

There are a lot of studies that have been done that show that the chemicals in some products are doing more harm than good. Ecostore USA eliminates those chemicals that are not good for you. Their line of products includes baby care, pet care, household, hair, and bath & body.

I was given the opportunity to try a couple products from Ecostore USA. I received the Vanilla Shampoo and the Dishwash Liquid. I like to get the most bang for my buck and found that the products I received were not watered down, as some products on the market are. Ecostore USA knows that it can be expensive to buy natural or organic products, so they safely super-concentrate their formulas so you get the most use of their products.

I've been using their Dishwash Liquid in lieu of my regular brands. This dishwash liquid has plant based ingredients. It indicates on the bottle that one squirt is enough for one sink full of dishes. I've been using two squirts because I like lots of foam. Even with two squirts, this bottle is large enough and is concentrated enough that it will last me a long time. In comparison to my regular brands of dishwashing liquid, I noticed that Ecostore USA's dishwash liquid works just as well, if not better. The grease and gunk on my dishes comes off easily and it does the job of getting my dishes clean.

Ecostore USA's Vanilla Shampoo is nourishing for the scalp and is formulated for chemically treated hair. From experience, I know that some shampoos leave a residue on the hair and can make it no cleaner or better than it was when you wash it. I've been using this vanilla shampoo and have noticed no residue and my hair feels cleaner after stepping out of the shower. Its super-concentrated formula ensures that I get many uses out of this shampoo. There is a light scent of vanilla, but it's not overpowering. My husband is also a fan of this shampoo because it's not all "girly" and it lathers up well.

I found these products to be nice for the size, formulation, and reasonable price alone. It also helps that they are environmentally friendly and as effective as the leading supermarket brands.

Cult Insanity - Book Review

I'm fascinated by the world of cults. Not that I'd ever want to join one, but I like to read about the reasoning behind why one would join a cult and the mental status of the person(s) that start them. Therefore, I was intrigued to read Cult Insanity by Irene Spencer. Apparently this book is a follow-up to Shattered Dreams. I have not had the pleasure of reading Shattered Dreams, but am interested in doing so now that I've read Cult Insanity.

In a whole, I liked reading about Irene and what she went through as a part of a cult surrounded with polygamy. Irene went through a lot of horrors in this cult, and this book describes her trials and tribulations. There were a lot of names thrown in this book and it was hard to decipher who was doing what at some times. Other than the confusion at times, this book was an interesting read. Irene did a good job of explaining the cult and why things were done the way they were, and how she was finally able to escape.

Full Description (taken from Hachette Book Group)
Life for Irene Spencer was a series of devastating disappointments and hardships. Irene's first book, Shattered Dreams, is the staggering chronicle of her struggle to provide for her children in abject poverty and feelings of abandonment each time her husband left to be with one of his other wives. Irene was raised to believe polygamy was the way of life necessary for her ticket to heaven.

The hard knocks of her environment were just the beginning of Irene's shocking tale. Insanity ran rampant in her husband's family and was the source of inconceivable events that unfolded throughout Irene's adult life. CULT INSANITY takes readers deeper into her story to uncover the outrageous behavior of her brother-in-law Ervil -- a self-proclaimed prophet who determined he was called to set the house of God in order -- and how he terrorized their colony. Claiming to be God's avenger and to have a license to kill in the name of God, Ervil ordered the murders of friends and family members, eliminating all those who challenged his authority.

For those who were gripped by Shattered Dreams, the rest of the story will blow them away. CULT INSANITY is a riveting, terrifying memoir of polygamist life under the tyranny of a madman.

A PlumbPretty Wedding

I had the pleasure of attending a friend's wedding reception last weekend. Tina, shop owner of Etsy's PlumbPretty, pulled out all the stops and had a beautiful reception. Her creative skills are wondrous. Tina crafted all the bridal jewelry herself and added homemade touches to the decorations.
This Christina's Wedding Day necklace is a slight variation of the necklace she made to wear on her wedding day. This necklace and other jewelry made by her can be found at PlumbPretty.

Congrats to Tina and Geene on their marriage. I wish them both many years of happiness and joy.

This is me with my friend Angie.

The candy bar was a big hit for kids and adults alike. This is my step-daughter checking out all the goodies. There were Hershey's kisses, jawbreakers, rock candy, lemon drops, caramel apples, jelly beans, and lollipops.

I was not compensated in any way for the shout out to PlumbPretty's Etsy shop. I happen to like her handmade creations and think they'd make a nice gift for anyone, especially during the holiday season. That, and I wanted to congratulate the happy couple.
