WaterGeeks - Review & Giveaway

As some of you already know, I own a camper and it is permanently set at a local campground. As much as I love camping and somewhat roughing it, I do not like the hard water that is potentially full of contaminants. Because of that, I tend to buy a lot of bottled water to drink.

Although I will not completely cut bottled water out of my life, I am going to make a conscious effort to reduce how much of it we go through and use during the upcoming camping season. According to WaterGeeks, only about 10% of the 10 billion bottles of water sold each year are recycled and tons of greenhouse gases are generated each day.

The WaterGeeks are helping turn the global water crisis upside down by educating consumers and providing new water consumption choices. Their Stainless Steel Bottles offer an alternative to bottled water. In addition, they also sell natural health and beauty products.

I received two Filtered Stainless Steel Bottles for review, one 24 oz and one 12 oz. I have a few stainless steel water bottles, but none that include a tap filter that filters chlorine, bad taste, odor, lead, and other potential tap water contaminants.

The concept is simple. You simply fill the bottle with tap water, snap the filter cap onto the top, and it filters the water as you drink. Each filter will last for up to eight hundred 12oz servings. I'm not exactly sure how the tap filter works, but it gives me a peace of mind knowing that the water I'm putting into my body is cleaner and I'm able to do it without spending lots of money on bottled water. These water bottles will be a staple at my camper when we are there.

Lately, on Saturdays, the family has been going to the local hobby shop to watch my husband and son race their RC trucks. Although it is a family-friendly atmosphere, energy drinks are the only drinks that can be purchased there. That's not something I want my children consuming. Therefore, I have been filling the stainless steel bottles up with water and have been taking them with us. As I am filling them up, I am able to feel the cold chill of the water while just holding the water bottle in my hands. These water bottles have done a wonderful job of keeping the water cold for a long period of time. When we're through, I throw the bottles in the sink to wash and rinse off the caps with cold water. Although the particular bottles I received are somewhat above my price range, I figure it's a lot cheaper than buying many cases of bottled water and it's safer for the environment.

Win It!
One person will win a 24oz filtered water bottle with tap filter.

David & Goliath - Review & Giveaway

Sometimes it's a good thing to let loose and be silly. I have to admit that there's times when I like to resort to my childish side. David & Goliath is a leading apparel designer that focuses on the 14-24 girl's age group. I have two girls in that age group who think the tees and pajamas at David & Goliath are humorous and fun.

David & Goliath was founded in 2000 by Todd Goldman and his t-shirt line quickly expanded into hundreds of products including sleepwear, fashion accessories, and stationery. In addition to being able to purchase David & Goliath apparel and accessories online, there are 15 retail locations worldwide.
I'm well past the 14-24 age range but would still wear a lot of the cute pajamas and tees designed by David & Goliath. Although I like most of the designs and sayings, there are some that I personally consider to be mildly offensive. For those with wee ones, you can purchase infant bibs and onesies with silly sayings.

David & Goliath has partnered with the Heartbeat International Foundation so that a percentage of the profits from each Heart Noggin tee purchase goes to the charity that provides lifesaving pacemakers and operations to people in poorer countries worldwide.

I received the Give Peas A Chance pajama set in size medium for review. Since I am not that size, my teenage daughter happily took them over. She liked the silly play on the saying 'Give Peace A Chance'. It has been chilly here so she hasn't had many chances to wear the tank top, but she's worn the pajama bottoms often. The waist band is elastic with a draw cord which helps keep the pants in place. Shelby says that the pajama set is cute and comfy.

Win It!

One person will win the Housework Is Evil tee in choice of size.
One person will win the We're In Cahoots pajama top and boxer set in choice of size.

Room It Up - Review & Giveaway

Although it doesn't seem to be coming near fast enough, spring will be here before you know it. The sun will start shining, the birds will start chirping, and the weather will start to get nice enough to go outside and do things. Oh, and my favorite, camping season will start up again!

Room It Up has so many things I've seen that would be great to have this year for camping. The colors of their products are so spirited and cheerful. Their water bottles, coolers, umbrellas, and beach towels would all be items that I could imagine taking to the campground and using often.

Just because I mentioned using these items at the campground doesn't mean they can't be used anywhere else. Room It Up started their company with a lap desk and expanded their collection to include many trendy products with great function and prints that pop. There are numerous collections to shop from including campus essentials, cosmetic bags, school accessories, blankets, and more.

I received the Bright Bloom Beach Towel Set for review. Although the weather has been to cold for me to go swimming, I put the towel to the test at home. The colors just scream spring. The towel itself is large enough to fit around my body. I washed and dried it and the towel came out with minimal shrinkage. The coordinating tote that comes with it has a drawstring closure and includes handles to carry it.

I am super excited to take this beach towel set with me when I go swimming at the campground. The tote can be used to carry items in or put the towel in when finished with it. Because the tote is made of cotton, it can be washed as well. I've put beach towels in bags before and, due to the material they're made of, the bags have gotten mildewy. With this set, I can immediately throw both in the wash. I am quite happy with my beach towel set and will be using it often.

Right now, with the code SPRING2010, you will receive free shipping with your purchases.

Win It!
One person will win a $30 eGift Certificate to Room It Up.

Mossy Bayou Foods - Review & Giveaway

My husband is the main cook of the house and loves to use spices, sauces, and seasonings to add flavor. He likes to try different ones, then keep his favorites on hand.

Mossy Bayou Foods is a Louisiana specialty food company with several products that appeal to those seeking zesty and exciting flavor experiences. We were sent the Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce for review and my husband has since used it on a number of foods that he's cooked.

The Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce has received awards in competitions. The bottle packaging is definitely unique. I can't remember the name of the movie, but the label reminds me of an old movie starring a swamp monster. The sauce itself is green and does indeed resemble swamp scum. My husband has added the hot sauce to our hamburgers, grilled chicken, and steaks. It adds a smokey flavor to our meats and has a mild amount of hotness.

Mossy Bayou Foods also sells other specialty foods, such as the Bayou Blend Seasoning. On the site itself, there's not a lot of information to be found about the foods or the company. I'd like to see more elaboration. As for the hot sauce we've tried, it gives a great taste to our meats and has been added to the list of my husband's favorites.

Win It!
One person will win a gift box from Mossy Bayou Foods with foods including Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce, Bayou Blend Seasoning, Louisiana Popcorn Rice, Original Cajun Chow-Chow, Strawberry Pepper Jelly, and Pepper Fiesta - 5 Peppers Jelly.

Wordful Wednesday - My RC Racers

My husband has taken up a new hobby to occupy his time in the winter, RC racing. He's now gotten the boys involved. Every Wednesday and Saturday my husband takes his car out to the local hobby shop and races it on the indoor track.

On Saturdays my son, Adam, was going out there with my husband and taking on the role of a corner marshal, which is a person that flips the cars back on their wheels when they wreck or flip over. I was flabbergasted when my husband gave Adam one of his electric cars the other day and told him he could start racing. Adam was beyond excited and is ready to take on his first race.

Here is Adam and Jason with their electric vehicles. Adam took it to the track a few days ago and practiced with his. He's been studying the owner's manual and learning how to maneuver the vehicle.

Logan has his own RC vehicle as well. It's a cross between a car and a swamp buggy. It can go on land or water. Logan does not wish to take part in the racing aspect of it and wants to use it just for recreational purposes.

This is Logan inserting the battery in his RC vehicle. It was the first time for him to work on his vehicle and learn how to charge it and replace the batteries.

It has been a fun hobby for the boys and it's given them something to bond over. Me and the girls go out to the races and watch.

If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, head on over to 7 Clown Circus and link up.

I'm Semi-Sorta Famous

I've got my 15 minutes of fame on TV. It's more like 15 seconds, but who's counting?!

Every year my family and I attend the local Home & Living Show. It features area businesses and services. We've been going every year for the past four years and I've even went so far as to take a vacation day from work just to go. It's something fun for a large family to do on the cheap.

Commercials have been playing to announce this year's dates for the Home & Living Show. Although I have yet to see it, I've been told that me, my husband, and the kids are shown on the commercial for quite a period of time.

It's funny the amount of calls I've gotten from people letting me know they've seen us on TV, like we're high status celebrities.

Next time I'll be sure to dress up for the event!

Misikko - Hana Professional Flat Iron Review & Giveaway

They say first impressions can make you or break you and that presentation is key. If that's the case, Miskko gave a great first impression with their presentation of professional flat irons.

I was given the opportunity to review the Hana Professional Flat Iron 1" - Pink Edition. I couldn't have been more impressed with the packaging itself. It arrived in a box lined with fake rose petals. The included iron mat and storage pouch were tied in pretty bows. The flat iron itself came in a lined tin. It made me feel like I had gotten something exquisite.

Not only did the packaging arrive beautifully, I also received a blank $25 check from the CEO of Hana to help in the spirit of giving. I was given the choice to make the check out to the Haitian relief charity of my choice or to any charity of my choice to help others less fortunate and in need. I was in awe of the generosity that is being given by Hana to help others. That shows true heart and soul. Due to the outpouring of support, Hana's CEO has extended this offer of a blank $25 check with each Hana appliance order until February 28th.

Although the look of the flat iron and accessories and generosity of the CEO had me from the get go, I wanted to see how well the actual flat iron itself worked. It has been put to use numerous times from myself and the two oldest girls.

I have fairly straight hair to begin with but it is frizzy at the ends. This flat iron has done a terrific job of straightening my hair all the way through and giving it a sleek look. I found that it works better when used with the Hana ShineShield, a thermal serum that protects and strengthens hair. I've used my flat iron to straighten my hair all the way through, as well as flip it out at the ends.

My two older daughters have very kinky, wavy hair. They've used cheaper model flat irons in the past and they don't compare. They are able to straighten their hair in a decent amount of time with the Hana Professional 1" Flat Iron and their hair stays straight.

The cord on the flat iron is long enough for me to reach all of my hair without stretching or do someone else's hair without having them practically on top of me. I am also able to straighten my hair when it is completely dry or a little damp. There is an adjustable temperature dial of five settings for all hair types. I like my temperature at a lower setting while the girls like theirs higher. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the on light for the flat iron continuously flashes when it's ready to be used. It can be somewhat distracting.

Hana is not the only brand of hair appliances sold at Misikko. Misikko is a company that chooses the best hair straighteners, ceramic flat irons, hair dryers, and beauty tools in the industry. CHI flat irons for sale can be found, along with Babyliss flat irons and hair dryers.

K'NEX - Sesame Street Set Review & Giveaway

I've recently posted reviews and giveaways for K'NEX Micro-Bot Series and K'NEX Fire Rescue 10 Model Set. Now here's one for the younger set of kids.

K'NEX has a line of Sesame Street building sets to suit those who are fans of Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, and the other fun characters of the popular show.

My kids received three of the Sesame Street building sets for review. They were the Kick It! Elmo Building Set, Swim Time Ernie Building Set, and Cookie Monster's Basketball Building Set. Each of the three sets include 13-15 pieces and are recommended for ages 2+. Additional building ideas are included and the handy storage container is nice to have to keep the pieces in and take with you.

Of all the sets received for review, this one was the easiest to piece together. My three youngest liked putting them together, but are past the Sesame Street age. These sets are great for toddler and preschool kids. As with the other K'NEX sets, I recommend that they be constructed on a hard, flat surface so as not to lose the pieces. These sets are quite simple to put together, but I would still advise adult supervision because some of the pieces are small.

The included containers for storage are quite neat. They are made of hard plastic and the top represents the Sesame Street character.

Win It!
One person will win a Kick It! Elmo Building Set, a Swim Time Ernie Building Set, and a Cookie Monster's Basketball Building Set.

The Napkin, The Melon & The Monkey - Book Review

Book Synopsis:

As a customer service agent, Olivia has been trained to handle irate customers in a calm, professional manner. But one day she loses control and yells back. Terrified that she’ll be fired, she seeks out Isabel, the call center’s sage.

The advice she receives from her wise mentor changes her life:
• SODA (Stop. Observe. Decide. Act)—a sure-fire formula for remaining calm in any situation
• Unplugging—a centuries-old practice to reduce anxiety and promote creativity
• Aha!s—22 practical insights that become the framework for living a happy life

This modern-day fable shows us that the best way to reduce stress is to cultivate mindfulness. While we cannot control much of what happens, we can get better outcomes if we stop to see situations clearly and calmly.

This book serves as both a powerful resource for business professionals looking for practical, easy-to-use tools for dealing with difficult people and an inspirational tale for those who want better relationships and a happier life.

My Review:

I work in an environment where I have to speak with frantic and irate people quite often. I have been complimented on the fact that I am able to keep calm most of the time and help diffuse stressful situations. Nonetheless, that does not mean that I do not get stressed or short tempered. My main flaw is overthinking internally and letting things build up.

The Napkin, The Melon & The Monkey: How to Be Happy and Successful at Work and in Life by Simply Changing Your Mind gave a lot of tips and techniques that I can apply to my life to handle whatever life throws my way. Granted, the tips and techniques take time and will not transform your life overnight. But there are helpful insights and references that guide you in changing your outlook.

One technique that I've been using is taking a break from my brain, meaning that I've been using breathing exercises and taking mental vacations to keep stressful thoughts from occupying my mind. This book is great for anyone who needs a little help de-stressing.

I received book for review from Meryl L. Moss Media Relations, Inc. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products, as your opinion may differ.

Body Bar Flex - Review & Giveaway

I admit, I'm not the most motivated person in the world when it comes to exercising. It seems that some of the programs I've tried cost a lot of money or are hard to follow along to. Forget about the gym. I don't have the extra money for membership and don't want to show everyone my sweaty, jiggly body.

I don't have to worry about those things with Body Bar. Founded in 1987, Body Bar Inc. developed and introduced a line of steel fitness bars covered in easy grip, durable rubber. I received the Body Bar Flex and have found it to be one of the most simple pieces of exercise equipment I have ever used. This "weighted bar" supplies a maximum of 20 lbs of resistance when flexed. To me, it looks like a long shower rod.

The first time I used my Body Bar Flex, I was amazed at how easy the exercises were and wasn't quite sure if I was actually working out. There was no question about it the next day. I was feeling muscles in my body that I didn't know existed. My body definitely felt like it had been through a workout.

I've watched the Body Bar Flex Basics DVD a handful of times and have followed along with the instructor with my Body Bar Flex. At other times, I've exercised using the bar without watching the DVD. The instructor on the DVD explains the exercises in a way that are easy to understand and follow along to. It's not so high-paced or hard that I'm at a loss on how to do one exercise before going on to the next.

The bar itself is long, slender, and flexible. When I'm done using it, I stick it in a corner. There's no having to find a place to store it or fold it up to make it fit somewhere. My exercise routine since having the Body Bar Flex is to use it twice a week while exercising along with the DVD. The other days of the week I pick up the Body Bar Flex and exercise with it in between doing chores. Although I've not tried them myself, there are other DVDs available for purchase that concentrate on different areas such as deep definition and pilates.

I feel good using the Body Bar Flex and have noticed improvement. It is something I plan on continuing to use daily.

Amelia - DVD Review & Giveaway

Movie Synopsis:
Experience the romance, struggle and triumph of legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart as she chases love and lives her dreams in Amelia, available on Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Hailed as “The Queen of the Air,” Amelia boldly flew into the annals of history with her solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Bound by ambition and love, her enduring marriage to George Putnam could not be broken by her determination to fly, or a secret passionate affair. Equal parts gripping drama, stirring romance and epic adventure, Amelia will take your breath away and send your spirit soaring! Directed by Mira Nair, Amelia stars two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank, Golden Globe winner Richard Gere and Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor.

My Review:

We've all learned about Amelia Earhart in history. This movie tells the story of her desires and ambitions. It is heartwarming and shows how a person can have the willpower and drive to do what they want against.
Hilary Swank did a wonderful job of portraying Amelia in appearance and behavior. The love between Amelia and her husband, played by Richard Gere, is there but there's not a lot of emotion involved. There is little conflict in the film; I would have liked to have known more about what made Amelia have such determination and the challenges she overcame.
The visual effects of the film are nice, particularly when Amelia is flying. The landscape below is breathtaking. It felt like I was seeing the world through her eyes. This movie does not give a lot of history beyond what we already know, but it is uplifting and gives the feeling of going against all odds despite the outcome.

Win It!

Silly Mama Quilts - Etsy Review & Giveaway

Quilts are an heirloom treasure that can be passed from generation to generation. Over forty years ago my grandfather made a small quilt for my sister when she was a baby. She used it and carried it around with her. Years later, when my son was a toddler, he found the quilt and latched on to it. He went nowhere without the quilt and it brought him great comfort. Although it is a little faded, he still has the quilt. He has since put it away in his drawer but I'd like to see him pass it down to his children someday.

Silly Mama Quilts creates handmade quilts and table runners that add a beautiful touch to your home, then can later be passed on to other loved ones. She also sells clutches. Her Etsy shop has been in business since September 2009 and she is currently offering free shipping on all orders.

I received a beautiful table runner from Silly Mama Quilts, as seen in the pictures above. It is reversible with one side having holly leaves and the other side featuring a snowman. I currently have it on my table with the snowman showing. We have lots of snow and winter weather here right now and the table runner is a cute decoration for the season.

This picture is a closeup of one of her table runners. As you can see, the details of the stitching are exquisite and the sewing skills are superior.

The table runner shown in the two pictures above has love envelopes on one side and a floral motif on the other. It is a little longer and narrower than the snowman table runner. Her table runners would look nice as a wall hanging or set on a nightstand as well.

Win It!
One person will win a table runner with love envelopes on one side and a floral motif on the other side.

Artiwood Letters - Review & Giveaway

I'm a fan of personalized products. I feel it makes that item seem a little more special and designed just for that person.

Artiwood Letters is an Australian based wooden toy company that specializes in the design and manufacturing of fun and colorful wooden painted letters. A wooden personalized name can be created with the five designs they have available, then attached to any surface with the included self-adhesive patch.

The five designs of wooden letters available for purchase are animal, alphabet, dinosaur, fairy, and dolphin.

I had a set of letters designed for my youngest girl, Emma, in the dolphin letters. The picture shows size dimensions of the letters. I think they are adorable and painted with beautiful detail. Emma was quite happy with them and has the letters attached to the door of her room. They were easy to put up with the self-adhesive patches already attached to the backs. As of yet, they have not fallen off her door. I think they make a nice touch to any room. The possibilities are endless for where these letters can be placed. Doors, walls, and toy boxes are just a few of the options.

I think all of the designs available are darling, but think it would be great it there were designs available for tweens and teens.

Win It!
One person will win a name of up to 8 letters in any design.

Sure, Illinois! I'd Love To Help You Get Out of Debt!

I'm none too happy with my state government right now. Is there anything I can do about it besides vent? No! But vent I will.

Last year I got the pleasure of taking three days off from work unpaid because money wasn't coming in from the state to pay my wages. There's talk of the same happening this year. Not that I don't already live paycheck to paycheck and already pay my fair share of taxes. But hey, it's just money to feed my family...no biggie.

To top it off, I get a letter in the mail from the state that I don't get my state income money back this year as expected. I got no notice letter to let me know it was going to happen. Just a letter that it was already done.

We had absolutely no idea why our money would be taken by the state. So my husband called the 1-800 number and was put on hold for an eternity to get the excuse of all excuses. My husband filed for bankruptcy in 2002 (we were not married at the time) and his truck was taken back as part of that bankruptcy. During that time everything was discharged that he filed for under bankruptcy and the truck was given back to the bank.

But because the state of Illinois is 13 billion dollars in debt, they are going back and getting their money for things that were legally written off years ago. That is not our words, but the words of the rep that my husband spoke with. EIGHT years later and they decide they want to get their money however they can.

Granted, bankruptcy is not the answer for everything and my husband filed to clear his debts that he accumulated. But that's the point of bankruptcy. Not to have the debt come back and bite you in the arse YEARS later just because the state can't handle their money no better than my husband could at the time. There is a statute of limitations law with medical bills, electric bills, and other unpaid debts of what I believe to be five years (not absolutely sure of the time frame). But Illinois can come back EIGHT YEARS later to take money from something that was legally written off years ago. Geez, my husband's record is now clear of the bankruptcy itself but he gets to help pay for Illinois' bankruptcy.

This is not only my outrage at the state of Illinois, but a warning to others that it may happen to you. Don't bank on receiving your state income tax until it's actually in your bank.

EdenFantasys - Review & Giveaway

***Are you under the age of 18? Do you personally know me? Are you easily offended by talk of S*X? If so, leave this post NOW! Although the images are decent, the links will take you to a site intended for those at least 18 years of age or older. There's my warning.***

The majority of us do "the deed", yet it seems so taboo to talk about it. There is such thing as TMI (Too Much Information) but I see no shame in talking about your game if the conversation warrants. My husband and I like to steal time away for ourselves once in a while. If it was up to him, I'd be naked and on the bed 24/7. Since that can't be the case, we like to make the most of what we can when we can.

Does this look like a "toy" to you? Nope, me either...and that's one reason why I like it! It doesn't look like your average adult toy and can be reasoned off with some crazy explanation of what it is if found by someone that does not yet need to know about such things.

That's just one of the reasons I like the Legamento. Without going into fine detail, I will say that it definitely makes foreplay a lot more fun and it does its intended job. It comes with batteries so there is no aggravation of having to dig through drawers hoping you have some available. The velvet drawstring pouch it comes with keeps it from being visibly noticed. The toy itself fits in the palm of my hand and has a nice soft touch. It almost feels like velvet against the skin. There are different pulsating sensations to put you over the Big O edge.

For any way that you want to make your love life even better, EdenFantasys has the right choices for you. They don't care what your sexual orientation is or how you like to get your freak on; they want to provide what is best for your wants and needs.
The site itself is not trashy or degrading. It is set up in a classy manner and gives you many search options to help you find the right item you want. For each item they sell, there are detailed specifications and some include user reviews. For discretion, all orders are sent to the buyers in a package that does not indicate in any way who it is from. I can vouch for that. Usually when I get packages in the mail that I'm expecting, I can look at the box or return label to see who it's from. I had absolutely no clue with this one until I actually opened the package.

If you'd rather play it mellow and low-key or you're just not in the mood to shop for an adult toy, there's nothing wrong with that either. EdenFantasys sells candles, massage oils, lingerie, and even bubble bath as well.
