BEARPAW - Review & Giveaway

BEARPAW was founded in 2001 and has rapidly grown to an extensive line of footwear that covers multiple categories. BEARPAW is available in the United States and in thirteen countries around the world. For a company that is less than ten years old, BEARPAW has certainly made its mark.

BEARPAW not only strives to make comfortable shoes, but to also make a difference in the lives of others. Their employees are involved in organizations and community projects, one of them being Soles4Souls.

I first heard about BEARPAW through another blog during the wintertime. I was impressed with their winter boots made of sheepskin. They looked so warm and they were stylish. I even mentioned the brand to a co-worker. She already knew of BEARPAW and owned a pair of their boots. She mentioned that they were absolutely comfortable.

I received the Wisteria sandals for review on this blog and was ecstatic to finally get to know what this brand of footwear was all about. These are a part of their new sandal collection.

Call me weird, but I love the smell of suede and the first thing I did was smell the shoes. The footbed and uppers are made of suede which is not only a smell I like but also a feel that is nice against the skin.

I've been wearing these sandals at every opportune time. They are easy to slip on and extremely comfortable. They are made with a strap around the toe to separate it from the other digits, giving them a unique look. I'm not a slave to fashion and will not wear shoes if they are not comfortable, regardless of how cute they are. For me, quality and comfort come first. I got the whole package with these sandals - quality, comfort, and style. My feet do not hurt after walking in them for long periods of time. The stitching on these sandals is detailed, making them sandals that will last for lots of wear.

My shoes are a size 10 and they fit just right. I know that my feet will not be growing anymore, so these shoes will last me for a long time. However, if y ou are purchasing them for someone whose feet are still growing, I'd suggest ordering one size larger.

Win It!
One person will win a pair of BEARPAW sandals in choice of style, color, and size.

3000 BC - Review

3000 BC Wellmed Spa has four locations that perform over 50,000 services a year. I live nowhere close to any of their spa locations, but I can still purchase their complete line of skin and body care with pure botanicals online.

One product I reviewed was the 3000BC Exfoliating Scrub Cleanser. It is intended to remove cellular debris and increase circulation. The included jojoba beads in the ingredients cleanse, smooth, and rejuvenate the skin. I've mentioned before that I have dry, flaky skin. One place that it's noticeable is on my nose. When using this exfoliating scrub cleanser, I can feel the beads sloughing away the dead skin and it feels smoother. The flakiness and roughness in my trouble spots are a lot less noticeable. The cleanser itself is thick and creamy and is not watered down.

The Hand & Foot Deep Repair Cream combines essential oils, herbal infusions, vitamins, and antioxidants to protect and condition skin. I saw a picture of my hands before I used this and noticed that they are dry and aged. I knew my feet and elbows were that way, but hadn't really noticed the hands before. This deep repair cream makes my hands look and feel smoother. I even took a picture after using it for a while and the results are noticeably better. Greasiness and stickiness are two things I loathe in some body care products, and this thankfully has neither.

The 3000BC makeup line can be used on sensitive skin and contains ingredients from the earth. Their makeup contains no fillers, chemicals, dyes, or additives. I usually wear makeup daily but don't put on a full face. However, eyeliner is something that I like to wear often and try in different colors. I tried the Nightingale eye liner and liked how easy it is to apply. The dark blue of this shade accents my eyes. One end contains the eye liner and the other end has an attached sponge for blending. It has a twist application that requires no sharpening.

The makeup and skin line from 3000 BC is a little more expensive than what you would pay for at drug stores or mass merchandisers. I, however, feel that their line is upscale and worth paying the small extra price.

I received products for review from 3000 BC. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Going To Be An Aunt Again

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday! Another Random Thoughts Day. Grab the button and link up at The Un Mom to participate.

randomtuesday

I'm going to be an aunt again today. I'm super excited! Can't have anymore of my own and it's always great to see the family growing. I've lost count of how many times I've been an aunt and great-aunt. We're like jackrabbits determined to keep the family legacy moving forward. My brother and his companion are having their second child, a girl named Zoe. I wish them all the best and can't wait to spoil the newest addition. Also found out over the weekend that my nephew and his wife are expecting. I love being surrounded by the wee ones.

I sooooooo suck in the area of willpower and motivation, but I've been keeping strong with exercising daily with the EA Sports Active fitness program on the Wii. It was rough at first and I almost cried like a little girl. Okay, okay, so I actually did cry like a little girl one day! But, as an excuse, that's only because I felt like a failure and wasn't sure I could do it. My husband, bless his heart, dealt with my emotional breakdown quite well and knew not to say anything to make it worse. The pain is almost nonexistent now and I am feeling better about it all. I'm not sure I'm making any progress but I at least have showed myself that I can follow through on something so tedious.

Can working out make your eyes swell shut? I woke up the other morning looking like Sloth from the Goonies at one point and like Cheech and Chong during their best pot smoking moment later that day. I have absolutely no clue why I woke up to my right eye looking like I'd done been in a bar fight, but the swelling has went down considerably and is almost back to normal now.

I've prepared the Easter baskets for the kids in preparation for Sunday. I've noticed that one of the kids has gotten short-changed and I'm not finished buying for her yet. Here comes Peter Cottontail....on his way to Wal-Mart.

Happy RTT everyone!

Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop

Nichol with KiddiesCorner Deals has an awesome blog that I try to visit often. She was kind enough to gift me with a virtual Easter basket. This virtual basket was passed along to me and I, in turn, am going to pass it on to others. This basket loaded with stuff I'd love to get for Easter is actually something being done for a great cause.

Here is some information on the Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop:

"This Easter season Hershey is all about helping you to create Better Easter Baskets with their special limited edition Easter candies found at Walmart.

More importantly, Hershey wants to promote the idea of going good in our own communities. The Hershey Company is committed to making a difference in the communities where we live in, and has a heritage of giving back to the community."

Thanks to Hershey's and 20 different bloggers looking to blog for a good cause, baskets like the one above were created and given to charities of each bloggers choice to spread Hershey's ongoing message around: We are ALL working together to do good in and out of our own communities!

In addition to those 20 baskets donated to charity, Hershey's is also sponsoring a Better Basket Blog Hop where Hershey will donate $10 per blog post entry for the Children's Miracle Network, up to $5,000. How amazing is that!

So, with this being said, I'm going to pass it along to these listed blogs but please post this anyway if I don't pass it along specifically to you. It's for an amazing cause and we could all post for this.

Moonjar - Review & Giveaway

I'm all about teaching my kids the value of a dollar. Saving money and watching for deals is something that I'd like to pass on to them.

I will sometimes take my kids to the store and buy them a treat on my behalf, no strings attached. But, for the most part, they are expected to work for their money in the form of chores or doing helpful things for others. If there's something they really want, they know they need to save up most or all of the money to get it.

Moonjar is a company that helps kids of all ages learn about money and financial success. Managing money, hard work, strong financial ethics, and thoughtful decision making are the values behind Moonjar. They are committed to creating products that encourage communication and that empower children with basic life skills.

Conversations To Go: The Game That Questions Money has made for great conversation with me and the kids. There are 100 open-ended questions to draw out of the box. A lot of the questions are about money. A couple examples are "Name the most important job in the world. What is it worth?" and "Are there any jobs that ought to be done for free?" There are also other questions about family and feelings such as "What is it about your family that makes it different from others?"

This game has been great for roundtable discussion and the answers the kids have given are interesting. It is a way to get inside their heads as to how they think about money and other subjects. All six of the kids are easily able to join in and give their answers and they like being involved.

I gave The Classic Moonjar to one of my sons. This moneybox helps him see how much money he has and the end result. This three-sectioned moneybox is divided into Save, Share, and Spend. It includes a passbook to track transactions and he's been diligently writing in it when he gets money. The Classic Moneyjar has been helpful to him and he likes sorting his money into the three sections, determining how much is going to go into each.

Win It!

Dove Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter - Review

A few years ago, my mother came over to my home with a bag of Dove chocolates. Ever since then, Dove has been one of my favorite brands of chocolate and I still have fond memories of my mother sharing her Dove chocolates with me when she has them on hand.

The other day I received of Dove Peanut Butter Milk Chocolate PROMISES and Singles for review and I admit that I barely had the package in my hands before I tore it open and savored the rich decadence. Although I've tried Dove before, I've never had it with peanut butter. Oh wow, was it yummy! Dove chocolates themselves are a chocolate delight but they are even better when combined with peanut butter.

I'll admit, I was going to be selfish and keep the chocolates all to myself. Hey, sometimes it's okay to think only of myself, right?! I was in the bedroom the other day and my teenage daughter was in the living room. The commercial came on for Dove Chocolate Peanut Butter Promises and I heard Shelby exclaim "Oh my gosh! I've got to get me some of those. They look so delicious." So, being the good mother that I am, I came out with a few of the Dove chocolates for her to try. Her expectations of them were met when she told me that they tasted as good as they looked on TV.

Dove will continue to be a brand of chocolate that I purchase and now the peanut butter version will be added to my list.

You can follow Dove on Twitter and become a fan of Dove on Facebook.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by mom Central on behalf of Dove and received samples of Dove Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter products and a gift certificate to facilitate my review. SYLVANIA Halogen Light Bulbs - Review

My electric bill these past few months has been through the roof. The winter weather has caused my heater to go into overdrive and I've been scrambling to find ways to cut energy costs even more than I usually do.

Before I even received SYLVANIA's new halogen SUPERSAVER light bulbs for review, I had read that halogen lightbulbs last longer than regular bulbs and help save energy. Once I received the bulbs, I inserted them into light fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen. I don't know yet how much they have or will save me in my quest for a lower electric bill. However, I do know that I'm willing to give them a try. These halogen bulbs are shaped like regular lightbulbs so they will fit in your fixtures. The halogen lighting is easy on the eyes and I like how my rooms are illuminated with these bulbs. The pricing of these bulbs is a little higher than regular incandescent bulbs, but it works out in the long run because they help save money and are energy-efficient.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of SYLVANIA and received products necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate. The opinions within this post are of my own. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Big Green Alligator - CD Review

Although I do not advocate teenage pregnancy, I know all too well about it. I became a mother at the age of 17. Luckily, I had a strong support system.

Not everybody has the support I did. A portion of the proceeds of the sales of the CD Big Green Alligator will to go Teen Mother Choices International to help provide teen mothers with a support system.

Big Green Alligator is Lisa Weyerhaeuser's (a.k.a "La-La Lisa") first foray into kids' music. The children's songs on the CD are upbeat and teach life principles.

Track Titles:

Big Green Alligator

My Little Brother

Silly Bob

The Countdown Song

That's A Fact

Two By Two

Be Careful What You Say

I'm So Glad

Work

Four Stories

Walk To The Edge Of The Light

Carry The Flame

Oh For A Day

Goodnight

My three younger kids enjoyed listening to the songs on the CD and have even memorized some of the lyrics. Once in a while, I'll catch Emma singing a couple of the songs out loud. The songs are wholesome; there's no worry that they're listening to something they shouldn't be. I've listened to the CD myself and have talked with my kiddos about what the lyrics in each particular song teach about certain life lessons.

I received CD for review from The Adams Group. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing procuts. Your opinions and results may differ.

Wordful Wednesday - My Easter Creations

I used my sister's Cricut to make some creations for Easter. I crafted Easter cards and decorated the kids' Easter baskets. They're not fancy dancy, but I'm pretty proud of what I made.

These are the Easter cards I made. I used the end of a Q-tip to make the bunny tails.

I did not want to decorate the baskets in Easter theme so the kids could use their baskets all year round. The left one is for my teenage daughter. The right one is for the 9 year old girl who likes frogs.

Logan's basket on the left is decorated with animals all the way around. Adam's on the right has a race car theme for his love of racing.

These are the baskets for the remaining two girls. They are also decorated on the back.
With the exception of getting a couple things for the two older girls, I have gotten all of the goodies for the baskets purchased.
If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, link up at Seven Clown Circus.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - 30 Day Challenge

Yep, it's Tuesday again and that means another edition of Random Tuesday Thoughts. If you'd like to participate, link up at The Un Mom.

So my EA Sports Active Wii fitness program arrived in the mail the other day and me and my husband get this bright idea that we're going to get buff. This is coming from the girl who doesn't run unless she's being chased and whose idea of exercise is reaching for the cookies on the top shelf of the pantry. We've set up the game so that we exercise to a virtual trainer everyday for 30 days. We've only done two so far and already it's kicking my arse. If it wasn't for my husband telling me to quit whining and suck it up, I may have quit already.

I may have been able to start the exercise regimen a few days before I actually did but my teenage daughter switched around some cords so she could play the PS2 and, in turn, she completely fried the power adaptor cord to the Wii. So I got to shell out $35 to buy an cord to be able to play EA Sports Active like I wanted to. It's almost like paying a startup fee for the gym! I have to say that Shelby did show remorse for what she did and gave me what money she did have to help pay for the cord. I'll forgive her this time.

Speaking of teenagers, Shelby turns 16 in April and I am hosting a "Shelby's Sweet 16 Celebration" blog event. I'd be much obliged if you added the event button to your blog. You can find it at the right hand side of my page.

The first day of spring was the 20th. Isn't it ironic that it snowed that day!

I won't get all downtrodden here but I realized that March 19th was the day that my father passed. It's been five years already. It's probably a good thing I didn't remember on the actual day of or I would have been depressed and not worth a darn that day. I've still got to give a shout out to my dad though....love ya Handsome Daddy and miss ya like crazy.

I made it up to the camper a few days ago and got it all cleaned up. My husband worked on the outside of it while I worked on the inside. Now it's looking all spiffy and ready for use. Can't wait until April 10th for the official start of our camping season.

Who's Missing? A Calico Critter Game - Review

International Playthings is a company with many brands licensed to them, one of them being Calico Critters.
In Who's Missing? A Calico Critter Game five cards are dealt out in a row and players hide their eyes while the dealer takes away a card. Then the players make an effort to remember which critters are missing. As the game is played the row of cards grows, so the longer you play the more challenging the game. This game is for 2-4 players, ages 3+ and it includes 48 cards along with game rules for three games to play.
Although my boys would never outright admit it, they've played this game a few times with my 7 year old daughter. They could care less about the characters on the cards, but the girl thinks the critters are cute and has even personally named them.
I'd say this game is for those between the ages of 3 - 7. It is great for utilizing memorization skills. The kids think hard on memorizing the cards and are proud when they get it right on which critter is missing. The game gets harder the longer it's played and more memory skill is required. We do not have any Calico Critters or sets in our home, but the cards in this game would be especially dear to those who are Calico Critter fans.

I received product for review from International Playthings. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ.

My oldest daughter will be turning 16 in April. To help celebrate this milestone, I am hosting a "Shelby's Sweet 16 Celebration" blog event. It will run April 14th to the 21st and will feature many reviews and giveaways. I'd appreciate if you added the event button to your blog; please leave a comment here if you do. Having it will get you 3 extra entries into giveaways during the celebration.

Here's a list of sponsors participating in the event:

Freshpair 10th Anniversary Sale

In January I did a review and giveaway for Freshpair, a company dedicated to all things underwear. I am just as pleased with the undergarments now that I received for review then.

From now through April 4th, to mark their 10th anniversary online, Freshpair is having one of their biggest sales ever. Many of the top brands are 25% off. Some of those brands include Calvin Klein, Barely There, Lunaire, and Ed Hardy, just to name a few. The prices are already marked to reflect the discount and shipping is free on all U.S. orders.

I received no compensation for this post. I just wanted to let my readers know of the sale.

Red Apple School Supply - Review & Giveaway

Back in September I did a review and giveaway for Red Apple School Supply. I was very impressed with the products I received and am pleased to announce that I'm doing another review and giveaway with this company. In fact, this will not be my last. I will be doing another during a blog event I'm hosting in mid-April.

Red Apple School Supply has a wide array of office and school supplies to suit your needs. Backpacks, calculators, crayons, notebooks, and pencil cases are just a few of the categories available to find what you are looking for. If being environmentally friendly is a passion of yours, Red Apple School Supply has recycled, reclaimed, and managed forest goods included in their product line.

Even if you don't have the need to buy items for school or office, there's still many items that are useful for other purposes. Easter is quickly approaching and there are items that would make nice Easter basket fillers such as the Recycle Crayon Sticks and the Crayon Rocks Soybean Crayons. The Recycle Crayon Sticks are recycled crayons packaged in an eco-friendly box. The crayons are stamped with the word "Recycle" on them. The Crayon Rocks Soybean Crayons are made from American-grown Soybeans and are packaged in a red velvet bag.

My children have drawn pictures with both sets of crayons and they work as well as any brand name crayon they've used. The kids like the uniqueness of these crayons, one how they're shaped like rocks and the other how they have different colors mixed together to look peculiar. The Recycle Crayon Sticks were easier to hold, but they liked the red velvet bag included with the Soybean Crayons to carry them in. Both sets of crayons are a lovely venture from the orindary crayons that are normally used.

Win It!

Two people will each win the Crayon Rocks Soybean Crayons.
Two people will each win the Recycle Crayon Sticks.
(That's a total of 4 winners).

Start Here - Book Review & Giveaway

Book Summary:

At the age of eighteen, Alex and Brett Harris wrote Do Hard Things—and launched a movement that would change a generation. Young people around the world were ready to be inspired, ready to move beyond complacency, ready to rebel against society’s low expectations.

Now the highly anticipated companion book, Start Here, answers the questions Alex and Brett have received from thousands of teens on their worldwide conference tour and popular online community: How do I get started? What hard things does God want me to do? How do I keep from getting discouraged or burned out? What is the best way to inspire others?

Filled with stories and insights from Alex, Brett, and other real-life rebelutionaries, Start Here is a powerful and practical guide for young people who are ready to take the next step and blast past apathy. Let the rebelution continue.

Author Bio:
Alex and Brett Harris are the coauthors of the best-selling book Do Hard Things, which they wrote at age eighteen. Today the twins speak regularly to audiences of thousands on The Rebelution Tour, maintain a hugely popular online presence through their blog, TheRebelution.com, and have been featured on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and in the New York Times. Raised in Portland, Oregon, the brothers currently attend Patrick Henry College in Virginia.

My Review:

Being the mother of six children, I've got to say that the teenage years are the hardest for me. Even though the two teenage girls are really quite-rounded and behaved, I had no idea it was going to be the challenge it is to raise them. I want all of my kids to lead successful, happy lives and don't want them to ever think the world owes them. I want them to know it takes hard work and determination to get where they need to be.

Start Here is a book that can be read in a short period of time and leave a big impact on a person. It gives people, especially teenagers, the tips and ideas needed to become something big in God's plan of life for them. It gives tools for discerning whether something or someone is influencing you for the right or wrong reasons. It is helpful in teaching what is needed to overcome bad emotions and feelings and becoming productive. There are discussion questions for each chapter for the reader to reflect and decide what they need to do to be productive in life and live according to God.

Although this book is geared primarly towards teens, it is a great source for adults as well in becoming motivated and working hard.

Hair Shots - Review & Giveaway

Girls....I've got four of 'em. And as cute as they are with primping and pampering, they can smell just as bad as boys at times. Hair Shots knows that girls can be smelly and sweaty, thus bottling the smell of sweetness that can be sprayed to get rid of unpleasant odors. Hair Shots are portable scents that come in five heat-activated fragrances. They were created by Amy Lance and debuted in 2004.

I received four of the fragrances for review. My two teenage girls have taken a bottle each and keep them in their P.E. lockers. They have told me that they like being able to spritz the fragrances on and it freshens them right up. All of the scents smell wonderful and are not too overpowering.
I've even used Hair Shots before straightening my hair. I spritz some on my hair and then straighten it. My hair smells great and it gives a little shine. One bottle stays in my purse and the girls reach for it when they feel that they could use it. Of the four fragrances we've tried, there's no one favorite because we like them all.

Win It!

One person will win a set of Hair Shots in five fragrances (Cupcake, Coconut Mango, Cotton Candy, Strawberry, and Watermelon).

Mandatory Entry:
Leave a comment with which fragrance you think you'd like best.
