Green My Lunchbox Campaign

During the outdoors blog event I will be hosting in June, I will be featuring Fabkins as one of the sponsors. There will be more details about the blog event later but, for now, I wanted to let you know of the Green My Lunchbox campaign in which Fabkins is a participating company.

By being a part of the Green My Lunchbox campaign, you will be helping to eliminate one million pounds of waste by pledging to pack a waste-free lunch. If 15,000 families commit to packing waste-free lunches, one million pounds of waste can be eliminated from our landfills.

Participating in this campaign not only makes you a part of an important movement, but you also have the chance to win a waste-free lunch product from participating companies in their daily Facebook giveaway. You will save 10% off all orders from participating company websites, with one of those companies being Fabkins.

With all of the companies featured, it's easy to find products that will help you with this campaign in packing a waste-free lunch.

I received no compensation for this post. Just wanted to let my readers know of the campaign.

4PinkPaws - Etsy Review & Giveaway

You know your work has got to be good if it gets recognized by the White House. That's the case with Debby of 4PinkPaws, whose painting was recognized and she got the privilege of being invited to a luncheon with the First Lady in 2004.

I can personally attest to the fact that Debby is a pleasure to speak with. Through our many email conversations, she has been nothing but kind and quick to respond. Debby combines her three passions of beading, making things with polymer, and painting into jewelry. Her main focus is making jewelry with hand painted polymer beads that hang from pendants and bead chains.

I received a Flamingo in Blue pendant, similar to the one pictured above, for review. The pendant is polymer clay with a hand painted flamingo. The pendant hangs from an intricately beaded chain.

This is a poor photo of the necklace I received, but it gives a representation of how far the necklace hangs down and a general idea of what it looks like when worn. It has been a beautiful piece to accessorize with my outfits and the details in the handwork are impressing. On the back of my pendant are Debby's initials and the year, marking who made it and when.

4PinkPaws has created two bracelets especially for my readers to enter to win. The blue bracelet is seven inches long and has hand formed polymer beads with tiny moons on them. The pink bracelet is six inches long and has hand formed polymer beads with tiny candy canes on them. Both bracelets are stretchy to fit over the hand.

Win It!
One person will win the blue bracelet pictured above on the left and one person will win the pink bracelet pictured above on the right.

Wordful Wednesday - A Busy Weekend

This past weekend sure was busy. Between a birthday party, prom, and campground activities it seemed like we were go, go, go. But it was all wonderful. Spring and summer seem to bring about a flurry of activities. If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, link up at Seven Clown Circus.

Sunday was my nephew's 22nd birthday party. In my family, a birthday party is held for you regardless of age. Who knew someone could be so excited over a garden hose?!

During the birthday party, I tried to play Baby Whisperer to my newest niece, Zoe, but she was having none of it.

We didn't get to do a lot at the campground due to pouring rain. That didn't stop the die-hards from still finding a way to have a good time. We were supposed to have a group wienie roast, but the rain didn't allow for it. So we all huddled inside the shelter house while my son played King Cook and grilled for the first time ever. He did a fine job with the hot dogs and grilled biscuits.

When it's pouring rain, some of us just aren't smart enough to pack up and go home or stay inside our campers. All it takes is a tarp and some bungee cord to make a golf cart weatherproof. May as well make the best of the situation!

My daughter went to prom Saturday with her boyfriend. He met up with her at my sister's house and took her out to eat and then to prom. Shelby received a beautiful corsage from her date. Guess what her date did NOT receive...a boutonniere. She failed to tell me that he'd need one from her and it's been so long since I've been to prom that the thought didn't even cross my mind.

I'm no master stylist, but I think I did a good job on her hair. Took me forever and a day but I thought she looked lovely.

I love this photo of my daughter and son. These two aren't the best of buds so it was nice to see a rare show of sibling love. I'm having this photo made into a canvas to hang in the living room.

When I first started this blog I had no idea how far it would come along or how successful I would be at it. I still don't consider myself to be in the top elite, but I've come a long way. I have just reached my 500th follower!

I'm thrilled that I've reached this milestone and want to thank everyone who is a follower, subscriber, and/or stalker of my blog. My 1 year blogoversary will be coming up soon and it is my hope that this blog can only continue to keep growing.

There's a whole world of blogs out there. I should know, I follow A LOT of great ones and seem to come across new ones everyday that I sign up to follow and subscribe to. Mine is just a small drop in a big bucket.

One thing I do know is that I've met a lot of loyal followers who have been there with me through this blogging journey and all of my followers are the most wonderful there are. I've also had the pleasure of working with companies that show they care what the consumer thinks and that have been a pleasure to work with.

Thanks to everyone who made this milestone possible!

Hellman's Real Food Project

I've mentioned before that I don't usually do the cooking for my household. Cooking just isn't my forte. My husband is the one that does it most of the time. However, I'm the one in charge of planning the weekly menu and deciding what we will have to eat. If I do cook the recipe has to be easy to follow with directions and include simple ingredients.

With The Real Food Project at Hellman's, I'm able to find recipes and watch videos of quick and inexpensive meals being prepared. Lori Loughlin and Bobby Flay show how, through videos and recipes, a meal can be made for even the beginner cook. I've founds lots of recipes using Hellman's products that even I can make! A few of these my husband and I will be using at home, while a few will be great to make while at the campground on weekends.

Until January 4, 2011 you can also play the Wheel of Real everyday for a chance to instantly win prizes and get an entry into the Real Food Sweepstakes.

I was entered for a chance to win a Hellman's prize package in exchange for this post. No monetary exchange took place.

A few days ago I posted a review for the ICE Bullet Vibrating Ice Cube. It is one of the many Good Vibrations sex toys that are designed to bring fun to the bedroom.

For those that missed the review, the ICE Bullet Vibrating Ice Cube is unique in that it is a vibrating ice massager that gives cooling sensations in the steamiest of places. It is unlike any that I've ever seen and used before. Now one lucky person will get the chance to try this toy themselves!

Celebration Review - Jlea Banner Designs

Shelby's Sweet 16 Celebration has ended with the reviews and giveaways forthcoming. There were a lot of wonderful sponsors who participated and a few bloggers who were kind in adding the button to their blog. Although there will be no more reviews and giveaways coming from this particular blog event, take note that a lot of the giveaways have not yet ended. There's still time to enter to win a lot of the great prizes that come from the sponsors who participated.

I have to give a shout-out to Jlea Banner Designs who created the button for this special blog event. I don't know the first thing when it comes to making a blog button. When starting this blog, I was forced to learn some html but some things are still beyond me.

I browsed through a few Etsy shops for a blog button and stumbled upon Jlea Banner Designs. What attracted me was that the prices were affordable, and the experience on making designs was evident in the number of sales.

I knew I wanted a blog button that went with the overall theme of my blog and that was appropriate for a teeange girl. Other than that, I was at a loss for what colors or particular design I wanted. Through a few conversations with the owner of this shop, I got a button and html code that was perfect for "Shelby's Sweet 16 Celebration"

She doesn't know it yet, but I have plans on purchasing another button soon for another blog event I will be hosting in June.

Yes, readers, that's right...another blog event! I'm going to have one in June that will showcase products that are great to use when camping or enjoying the outdoors. So be on the lookout, there will be more great reviews and giveaways coming up then.

I received no compensation for this review. I purchased the blog button from Jlea Banner Designs with my own money. I was not asked or encouraged to write this review. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ.

Celebration Giveaway - MyJones Soda

I've seen Jones Soda around in the stores, with its unique labels and bright colors. However, I had never tried it before Shelby's birthday party. I found out what I've been missing out on once I tried the refreshing flavors of this pure cane soda.

Jones Soda can be purchased to drink at the stores, but they can also be ordered to create a personalized and exclusive soda. By adding your own photo and message to the flavor of choice, you can make something that everyone will rave about.

With MyJones, I uploaded a photo of Shelby as well as a message that I wanted included on the back of the bottle, which happened to be "Shelby's Sweet Sixteen - April 2010". I chose the flavors of Fufu Berry and Grape, and then submitted the order.

When I received the customized soda, I was satisfied with the finished result. The labels on the bottles were sharp in color and they did not look cheap at all. Once I brought them to the party, people were swarming to see the sodas and to grab a bottle for themselves. The results seemed to be split on whether people chose to drink the soda, or not open it and keep it as it was. However, the vote was unanimous that these were one of the the most awesome birthday party favors ever.

Under the cap of each soda is a fortune and there are different flavors of soda that are quite unique. I mean, how cool does Green Grass Apple Soda sound?! Can't say I've ever tried that one before. I took swigs of the two flavors that Shelby had at her party and they were fantastic.

As I said, some people decided to drink their soda and then take the empty bottles home with them. Other people chose to keep the soda inside and not open it. The prices for MyJones soda are somewhat costly, with a 12-pack costing $29.99 plus shipping. However, I've bought party favors and keepsakes before that are poor quality or of junkstore material and they're never to be seen again. Both Shelby and I have kept a bottle of MyJones soda from her party as a keepsake and I've been to a couple of homes since where I've seen her customized bottles sitting around.

Win It!
One person will win a 12-pack of customized soda.

Celebration Giveaway - Wilton

When I was quite a bit younger I remember watching my mom craft and create. She was super talented with cooking and baking. She had a pile of Wilton books, cake pans, and candy molds on hand to make treats that were extra-special. I remember her commenting that Wilton products were used by her often because she could count on them to be reliable and help her make what she wanted.

Now, years later, I know why she chose Wilton as a brand for a lot of her cooking needs. Wilton has been in the industry for over eighty years as a leader in cake decorating, quality bakeware, and food crafting.

Cupcakes N More 38 Count Large Dessert Stand - One item I received to use at Shelby's birthday party is the Cupcakes N More 38 Count Large Dessert Stand. Although I did not use all 38 slots for Shelby's party, I occasionally hold parties that need that many. The stand required simple assembly and the cupcakes easily sat on each slot. It made an elegant and beautiful piece to display the cupcakes on. I had to transport the stand from my home to the park. Thankfully, the ride was short. With careful precision, my step-daughter held on to the base during the ride and the cupcakes stayed in place. This stand can also be used for fruit, treat bags, and small desserts. When not in use, the layers separate and can be placed back in the box for storage.

Dimensions Giant Cupcake Pan - My husband is the one who baked the cakes out of this pan. He did a trial run before the party by making one for me to take to work and share with my co-workers. The end result certainly looks like a giant cupcake. Before baking in it, my husband sprayed the pan with non-stick spray. When he went to take the cake out, he had no problems with it sticking to the pan and it was quite easy to clean when I washed it. The basics of it is to put cake mix in each of the two sides of the pan and then, after cooking, assemble the top and bottom halves with a thin layer of icing to make it into one large cupcake.

The overall look of the cake is darling when finished. Many compliments were received on the cake made for my co-workers, as well as the cake made for Shelby's party. The only problem I had was when slicing it to serve. When I got to the middle, the cake wanted to topple over and I had to be careful to make sure that it stayed in place. I've seen a few ideas on the Wilton website on different ways to use this pan that I think I'll use for future parties.

Win It!
One person will win a Cupcakes N More 38 Count Large Dessert Stand and a Dimensions Giant Cupcake Pan.

Celebration Giveaway - Bake Me A Wish

For Shelby's 16th birthday, we had a birthday party on a Sunday for her at a nearby park. We also had a small gathering a couple days earlier on that Friday with a few family members at the campground. Served for the main treat was a Peanut Butter Mousse Cake from Bake Me A Wish.

Oh my, I don't even know where to begin to describe this cake! Delicious, chocolaty, peanut buttery, rich, and heavenly, just to name a few.

It arrived packaged in beautiful gold and purple box. To keep it safe and fresh, it was encased in a styrofoam cooler with an ice pack. The cooler and ice pack have been saved for other uses at the campground.

Eight of us enjoyed this chocolate and peanut butter decadence. The cake does not look large enough to feed that many people, but it did due to the rich flavor of it. Only a very small piece is needed for each person. Chocolate chunks, brownie chunks, peanut butter, peanuts, dark chocolate glaze, and creamy fudge were all a part of this dreamy cake. On top of the cake was an edible chocolate piece that said "Happy Birthday".

Bake Me A Wish is a premium nationwide service for delivery of gourmet cakes, created by a New York bakery. I could just drool over the many delicious cakes they offer. Forget about a diet, I want to try them all!

Five percent from the order of a Mortgage Apple Cake will be donated to GreenPath Debt Solutions, a non-profit consumer credit counseling service. Also, you can purchase a Freedom Cake and it will be delivered to a soldier serving overseas.

I am nothing but overly impressed with Bake Me A Wish. Their cakes are gourmet, so expect to pay a little more. But their flavors are divine, the packaging is beautiful, and the cakes are fresh.

AVATAR Releases Tomorrow on Earth Day

Soon I will be receiving a screener and posting a review about the high-grossing film AVATAR, from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. I have yet to see this movie, but have heard many mixed opinions about it. I've heard that there are a lot of "hidden" messages that come across in this film, one of them being about saving our planet.

Tomorrow, April 22nd, is Earth Day, with a focus on environmental issues. It is also the release date for AVATAR. One point that the movie AVATAR focuses on is how human invasion can destroy the balance of life.

Through a unique code found inside the AVATAR Blu-Ray/DVD, consumers can register at http://www.avatarmovie.com/ to get access to bonus materials, special content, and money-saving offers. Additionally, those who register will be able to adopt one of the one million trees being planted on behalf of Earth Day and receive a virtual hometree that they can locate on a map to see where it's actually planted.

I received no compensation for this post. I will be receiving an AVATAR screener from Twentiety Century Fox Home Entertainment for review. The opinoins within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ.

There are a lot of things that I've put in my freezer but a vibrator has never been one of them, until now. With the ICE Bullet Vibrating Ice Cube, the world's first vibrating ice massger, you can get cooling sensations in all sorts of places.

There is an ice holder that you fill with water, then set in the freezer. Anxiously wait till the water is frozen, insert bullet in the grip, remove the ice holder from the ice, and have fun! This sounds like a lot of steps to do, but I assure you that it's easy to do and it's worth the wait. I make sure to set the sex toy in the back of the freezer, hidden from view, so there's no question or curiousity as to what it is.

Batteries and instructions are included. A cooling sensation is delivered for a jolt of excitement and pleasure. Seven functions enable you to get just the right amount of pressure and it's waterproof.

Very soon I will be hosting a giveaway where one lucky person will receive the ICE Bullet Vibrating Ice Cube! This is one toy that will cool you down and steam you up at the same time.

Flat Iron Experts - Review

I am no expert when it comes to styling hair; however, I like to play around with different hair styles and want to use tools that give me what I want without taking a lot of time. One day I may be in the mood for my hair to be straight and the next day I'll want it flipped out. I don't have the time or the patience to work on my hair forever so it's important to have the right flat iron and other tools to make it right in a short period of time.

The KQC X-Heat Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron is a hairstyling tool that I've been using almost daily because I am able to do different styles with it without damaging my hair. I've used this flat iron, along with my two oldest daughters, and we all like how it straightens hair quickly and proficiently.

The different heat settings, going up to a temperature of 410 F, give different hair textures and types the correct amount of heat needed to style your hair. I normally keep the heat at around 300 F due to my normal textured hair. If I want to just do a touch up, I'll set it at a lower heat temperature. The ceramic heaters and negative ions give my hair more shine and it looks less dry.

The cord is long enough that I'm able to straighten my daughter's hair when she asks for help, giving me room to stand behind her and reach her hair. The red power light continually blinks when it is on, with the flat iron being ready to use in just 30 seconds.

This particular hair straightener is a little on the pricey side, but I've used much cheaper ones with disappointing results. I've found that some things are more expensive for a reason, and this flat iron enables me to have the hairstyles I want. The end result is satisfactory.

If you are in the market for a hair straightener, hair dryer, curling iron, or other hair care products I'd suggest that you check out the large selection available at Flat Iron Experts. They are an online beauty shop that specializes in selling and reviewing the best in the beauty industry.

For each product there is a description explaining what it does and what it can be used for. There are lots of customer reviews giving opinions of the consumers. There is the option to choose the products you want by brand, feature, or price. Flat Iron Experts is an expert in giving you the best hair tools you need.

Celebration Giveaway - Batter Up Kids

My kids love to cook and the funner it is, the better. I also like to use gadgets and utensils that are cute, yet functional. Batter Up Kids has soooo many cooking items that are just that. There are products for birthday parties, cooking, baking, and everyday kitchen use. Although the main idea for Batter Up Kids is to carry items that appeal to kids or to use for kids' events, I can't stop myself from finding lots of things that I like, as an adult.

Batter Up Kids was founded in 1991 by Barbara Berry, an author of eleven children's cookbooks and a spokesperson for national companies. She has taught thousands of children to cook and she works closely with charitable organizations.

Flowerpot Happy Birthday Cake Mix - I surprised Shelby on the day of her birthday with a flowerpot cake I made using this mix. Included was a lead-free clay pot, vanilla cake mix, twelve birthday candles, and baking instructions.

The instructions were easy to follow and the cake tasted delicious. It was rather small, enough to feed two to three people. I think the cake mix is a nice idea to make for a loved one as their own personal cake on their special day to have and eat all to themselves.

My main concern when making the cake was that it would stick to the clay pot. I sprayed the pot with non-stick cooking spray and it easily came out when it was time to eat it.
Frosting was not included in the mix. I used some that I already had on hand and it took just a small amount. When Shelby came home from school, I lit the candles and sung Happy Birthday to her. She appreciated the gesture and the cake made just for her.
Eco-Friendly Bamboo Bowl Pink 6" - This bowl, made of bamboo, is pink on the outside and brown on the inside. It is the size of a small mixing bowl or a large cereal bowl. Bamboo is a naturally renewable material, making this bowl eco-friendly. There are directions included on how to properly care for it due to what it's made from. It is suggested that the bowl not be submersed in water for a long period of time. I used this bowl during Shelby's birthday party for one of the appetizers. It has since been used as a cereal and salad bowl.

Mix Spatula Ice Cream Logo - This spatula is oh-so-cute with it's pink ice cream design and the word "yummy". Not only is it cute, but it also functions well. The wooden handle is sturdy and it makes a perfect utensil for scraping mixes out of bowls. The rubber part is thick and not flimsy.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - The Last of the Campground Walkers

I totally missed last week's Random Tuesday Thoughts. Didn't think it mattered until somebody pointed out that they missed it and actually do enjoy reading what I have to say (and that person isn't even my mother!) I won't make any promises that this week's will be doubly good to make up for the lack of last week's but I'll give 'er a shot. If you'd like to participate in Random Tuesday Thoughts, link up at The Un Mom.

My 16 year old daughter asked if she could go to prom this year....eight days before the actual event. Nothing like going to something prepared! So all in a whirlwind I have briefly met the boy that is taking her, have made plans for him to come to supper tonight for a roundtable judgment, and have taken her dress shopping. Thankfully Shelby inherited her mom's frugality genes. I took her to a thrift shop that resells designer clothing and found her a dress that fits like a glove for just a little under $33. Seriously, it looks like a million bucks on her and no one would ever guess it was purchased at a yard sale price.

Never mind the hair, but this is a photo of Shelby in her prom dress. It is covered in sequins from head to toe and just sparkles.

My family has finally joined forces with the rest of the campground bohemians and we've purchased a golf cart. We are no longer the Walker, Campground Rangers. The campground we stay at is quite large and although I like a good walk once in a while, it took forever to get from point A to point B at times. And everything fell into place so perfectly that we were just meant to get this golf cart. The price and timing were both right. Now I get to join in all the reindeer games, otherwise known as golf cart parades and activities, like the rest of the girls and boys.

Today I get to clean my house so it is appropriate for a teenage boy to enter (like he'll even care) and to find my daughter's battery charger that I swore I wouldn't misplace. I'm gonna bet that I end up buying her a new one because I'm pretty sure I have absolutely no clue where I placed it.

Ouchies - Review & Giveaway

In December I did a review and giveaway for Ouchies, a company that offers stylish bandages for children. The designs we received then were super awesome and we still have a few left. Some have been used for actual wounds and others have been used just because they look cool.

Since then, Ouchies has added an Ouchies Jr. line that includes two new designs. Ouchies Jr. OLIVIA and Ouchies Jr. Trucktown are the new additions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've never been bandages that look as cool for kids as the ones Ouchies has to offer. They keep coming up with designs that appeal to children, tweens, teens, and even some adults.

My two younger girls like Olivia and are happy to sport bandages with the character designs. I have to admit that we've never seen Jon Scieszka's Trucktown but that doesn't stop my boys from liking the Ouchies Jr. bandages with those designs. Big trucks in general are an interest of theirs so these bandages are automatically neat in their eyes.

The tins are easy to open and close, and can be used to put small other small items in when empty. The bandages themselves work just as well as any other I've used. For each tin of Ouchies, there are four of each design for a total of twenty bandages. My home and my camper are stocked with Ouchies, ready to cover the next wound.

Win It!
One person will win two tins of Ouchies or Ouchies Jr. in choice of designs.
