EatSmart Products - Review and #Giveaway

Believe it or not, I have never owned a bathroom scale.  I've never liked my weight so I didn't want something displaying the ungodly numbers.  These past couple of months I've been determined to lose weight and reach a healthy goal by the end of summer.  Thanks to EatSmart, I now have a bathroom scale that I weigh myself on.  I'm happy to report that I've lost six pounds.  Of course, it's up to me to lose the weight but the bathroom scale is a great motivator in helping me stay on track.

The EatSmart Precision Premium Digital Bathroom Scale has a sleek black and silver coloring with a non-slip platform that safely measures up to 400 lbs.  There's no need to turn it on or press buttons.  With its "step on" technology, your weight is displayed once you step on the scale.  The numbers are displayed on a cool-blue blacklight so you can view it in any light.  The slim design makes it easy to store away if needed.  It is not recommended to move the scale around often because it will incorrectly display numbers.  That can be fixed by setting the scale on a hard surface and stepping on it once for it to calibrate.  After that, the numbers will display correctly.

It's not the scale that's helped me a lose a few pounds, but the scale has helped me see my progress and make me more motivated.  I like the slimness of the scale and how it reads the numbers instantly.  Batteries are included with the scale so it can be used once purchased.  I can step on and off with the blink of an eye and no one has to know I've just weighed myself.  The numbers stay on long enough for me to read, but short enough that the next person coming into my bathroom doesn't know my weight.

Eatsmart knows that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a constant challenge.  EatSmart gives you the tools to meet the challenge head on.  Every product they manufacture carries a 100% EatSmart Satisfaction Guarantee.  Every month, EatSmart makes a donation to a differet charity from the sales of their products.  In March they donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societty.

Pampers Little Miracle Mission - $50 American Express GC #Giveaway

Pampers wants to encourage people to help out families with little ones in fun and unexpected ways. They’re doing this through their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pampers. When you visit, you can make a pledge to participate, as well as read Pampers’ suggestions for ways in which you can support a little miracle with the Little Miracles Mission campaign.

For example, here’s their current suggestion: Your mission is to help make Mother’s Day special by congratulating an expectant or new mom on her little miracle. Give a mom a smile, offer her your seat, buy flowers for a mom-to-be, send her a gift or surprise her with a hand-written note; something to remind her that it’s her special day. For committing to help, you can enter The Little Miracles sweepstakes for a chance to win free diapers and wipes for a year.

Pampers recently kicked off the Little Miracle Mission campaign by delivering a giant act of support –donating care packages to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) across the country. Celebrities Joey Lawrence , Ali Larter, Mark Consuelos and LaLa Anthony were on-hand in New York City to personally deliver a care package and thank you basket to Mt. Sinai Hospital and their staff.

Visit their Facebook page to commit to helping families with little miracles. You can also share your own miracle stories!

I have been given the opportunity to touch the life of an expectant or new mother in my own community and with your help, I know we can make a big difference. Pampers has offered me $50 to help a family in my local community and I need YOUR HELP! I am asking all of you to offer your ideas of how to make a big impact for one local family with the $50.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Win It!

One person will win a $50 American Express gift card to help a family in your community.

Mountainsmith - Review and Discount Code

Mountainsmith was founded in 1979 by Patrick Smith. His vision was to create a company that offers high quality outdoor gear based on the principles of value, durability, utility, and sustainability.  Over sixty percent of Mountainsmith's products contain ReDura materials, which is made of recycled plastic water bottles. Most Mountainsmith products are covered by a Lifetime Warranty against materials and workmanship defects. Their series includes camera, travel, backpack, and trekking products.

Being a camper, I am always searching for products that can last through the outdoor elements.  My family of campers plays in mud, takes hikes, and enjoys nature.  By the time the weekend is over, we reek of dust, dirt, and campfire.  I've worked with Mountainsmith before and was impressed with the Tailgater Cube I received so I was pleased to work with this company again for Terra's Two Year Blog Bash.

I received the Modular Hauler 3 System for review and had to pry it away from my husband's hands to fully look it over because he immediately claimed it as his.  He thought it was neat from the get-go with its three color-coded cubes.

The Modular Hauler 3 System, we found out, is not intended to carry cold foods or drinks like a cooler is used for.  It is instead to be used for gear, clothes, camping accessories, or other items you'd like to carry.  The three cubes are different colors so you can easily identify what's in each one.  For instance, we know that the yellow cube is what our toiletries are in, the lime one is what our canned goods are in, and the cinnamon one is what our camping tools are in.  We pack it like that every weekend when we are ready to head to camp.

To keep the three cubes together, they can be set inside a hauler.  The hauler has a main packing compartment to set all three cubes in and handles to shoulder it.  It has a sturdy bottom and makes it easy to tote all three cubes.  Once we have packed the three cubes with their contents, we set them inside the hauler to make it easy to lug them into our vehicle.

The three cubes don't have to be inside the hauler at all times.  If you prefer, you can take just one with you wherever you are going.  Each cube has a top zipper and a see-thru laminated mesh top panel.  There are shoulder straps on each one, with a PVC-free weather-resistant interior.  There are no reinforced bottoms on the cubes so the bottoms don't always lay perfectly flat, but that's the only minor weak spot I've noticed in them.  The hauler system is easy to clean, with a wipe of a wet rag.  The Modular Hauler 3 System has been beneficial to my family and consider it a first-rate addition to our camping essentials.

DISCOUNT CODE:  Use code HB20 upon checkout for 20% off your total purchase at Mountainsmith.  Discount expires May 31, 2011.

The Hillbilly Way of Cooking

For dinners at the campground, we usually get together with a few other campers and eat together.  All the grills were loaded with food and the potatoes still needed to be made.  One of our friends came up with the genius idea of throwing charcoal in a wheelbarrow and placing the potatoes wrapped in aluminum foil on top.

Regardless of the method, the campfire potatoes turned out delicious.  Hey, whatever works!

IGIGI - Review and #Giveaway

I'm not skinny, but that doesn't mean I don't like to wear clothes that make me feel good about myself. Being plus size doesn't mean being frumpy. IGIGI caters to plus size women, with a mission to transform with world's form of beauty with smart, stylish, and sophisticated plus size clothing collections for women in sizes 12-32.

IGIGI was founded in 2000 by Yuliya Raquel, a designer who knew that there was a void in the plus size apparel market that needed to be filled. IGIGI introduces most of its styles in very limited quantities to keep the collections exclusive. Once it is sold out, it will not be brought back exactly as is. All designs are proudly made in the USA.

Clothes shopping for me is usually a disaster. Finding outfits that fit my body nicely and designs that are stylish is almost impossible. When I do find that one piece that fits me just right, it's a eureka moment. I received the Masterpiece Top and had a rare Eureka! moment when I put it on. Made of Poly/Elastane, this blouse gives the illusion of a layered look and has a thin, silky feel.  Because of the material it's made from, it can only be hand washed.  This particular top can be worn off or on the shoulders.  I like how it fits my body and gives a slimming effect.  I can wear it with a skirt or black pants to make it look dressy or with a pair of jeans for a more casual look.  I have a pair of cropped pants that I received from IGIGI for my last review that I especially like to couple this blouse with.

It's refreshing to find a company that caters to plus size women in a way that makes them feel confident and proud of who they are. Even if you're not a plus size women, IGIGI has a nice selection of jewelry and accessories that are pretty and affordable.

SeaPak Shrimp - Review and #Giveaway

A month ago I purchased some fish sticks because they were on sale.  After eating them I'm sure I won't consume them again, regardless of price.  I felt like I was tasting filler meat instead of real fish.

Fast forward a short time later, I was able to try the new Popcorn Fish from SeaPak Shrimp Company.  I could definitely tell the difference.  The Popcorn Fish tasted and looked like it had actual fish in it.  With the bread crumb coating, the popcorn fish is mild bites of flaky white Pollock.  Paired with sides, my family ate it together one night for supper.  We have a fairly large family and there was enough Popcorn Fish in one bag to feed us all.  Although we used the whole bag, I appreciate that the bag is resealable in case there's some left over to cook later.  The balls of fish aren't as easy to handle as sticks are when cooking, but it just takes a little more precision when taking them in and out of the oven.

Since 1948, SeaPak has provided a wide variety of easy-to-prepare shrimp and seafood products.  Personally, I don't care for shrimp or lobster, but I like all varieties of fish.  When I eat fish, I want it to taste like the real deal and SeaPak delivers.  My husband likes all types of seafood and is wanting to try other packages available from SeaPak.

Win It!

One person will win a coupon for a free package of any SeaPak product.

Wordful Wednesday - Easter Day

Easter went very well for our family this year. It was busy and we were all ready to crash once we got home, but I'm glad to have spent the time with my loved ones.

My three step-daughters spent the day with their biological parents, but I was able to get a picture of Emma in the Easter dress I got for her.

I, along with my husband and three kids, drove an hour and a half to a community center to spend time with family feasting, playing games, and partaking in an Easter egg hunt.

The yard was littered with more Easter eggs than you could count.  They were filled with candy, money, and prize slips.

The food was amazing.  The main meats included catfish, country ham, and fried turkey.  I ate so much I'm sure I gained back the few pounds I lost.

My mother made festive centerpieces for the tables.  After the meal, names were drawn and those people were winners of the centerpieces.  I was lucky enough to receive one and so was my son, Adam.

The adults participated in an Easter egg toss game.  The object was to throw as many large plastic Easter eggs as you could from twenty into a basket.  For the record, I only got two out of twenty.  I wasn't the winner!

Nine children participated in the Easter egg hunt.  Their little buckets couldn't begin to hold all of the plastic eggs so they had to resort to large grocery bags.

It was a blustery day so the little girls couldn't fully show off their Easter dresses, but they all looked adorable.

Each kid received more than their fair share of candy, money, and prizes.  In fact, the kids got wore out by the time all of the prizes were picked out.  Stuffed animals, DVDs, books, and more were chosen as prizes by the kids.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable day.  How did you spend your Easter?

If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, link up at Seven Clown Circus and/or Parenting By Dummmies.

Personal Microderm At-Home Microdermabrasion System - Review

Founded in 1999, SkinCareRx was created with the intention of making dermatologist and spa-grade, clinically active skin care more successful.  On behalf of SkinCareRx, I was able to review the PMD Personal Microderm At-Home Microdermabrasion System.  This at-home microdermabrasion system gives you results of a professional treatment at home.  Embedded in the tip of this sleek tool are the same aluminum oxide crystals used by professionals.  PMD Personal Microderm gives you a younger looking complextion by diminishing age spots and skin imperfections in a matter of weeks.

I have never stepped foot inside a dermatologist's office before, so I wouldn't know the first thing about what treatments they offer.  I have dry skin and age spots that plague me, but I'm not a fan of going to any specialist unless absolutely necessary.  It always takes up my time and my money.  Being able to use a personal microdermabrasion tool at home is an advantage for me.

I'll admit, I was at first a little indimated by the Personal Microderm kit.  I've never used one before and there were a lot of instructions to follow.  Now into my fourth week of using it, I can't believe how easy it is to use.

Included with the Personal Microderm is 1 Personal Microderm, 6 exfoliating discs (2 green, 4 blue), an electrical cord, 2 caps, 1 reusable filter, and an instructional DVD and sheet.  It is important to read the instructional sheet and watch the DVD before first use.  The DVD is only eight minutes long, but has a lot of pertinent information and tips.

Before you begin, you should be aware of your skin type.  I can tug and pull on my skin without much visible distress, but the Personal Microderm can cause scabbing or redness on those with sensitive skin if not used correctly.  The blue discs are to be used for moderate treatments and the green disc is coarse to be used for more aggressive treatments.

When I first used the Personal Microderm I wasn't sure what to think of the feeling.  It's almost like your skin is being lightly sucked by a vacuum while you feel a small grinding on your skin.  I call it "sucking and grinding".  The sensation is a little weird at first, but I quickly got used to it.  The only place that I am unable to use it is around my eyes and that's because they're ultra-sensitive.

To use the personal microdermabrasion system, all you have to do is first wash and dry your skin.  Place the desired disc on the motor shaft and push it on.  Place the cap over the disc and seal it tightly, then connect the power cord to the unit and plug it in.  Using your fingers, stretch your skin so that it is taut and move the unit constantly over your skin without hovering in one spot.  The small disc is to be used in tight spots around the nose or where your bones will not allow suction.  The large disc is to be used on larger skin areas.  Afterwards, you need to apply toner and moisturizer.  This is important because you will not achieve the desired results with the system alone.

I've found that applying toners, creams, or moisturizers right after treatment causes a slight burning sensation.  So what I do instead is wait for half an hour before applying the skin care products.  I received samples of the M2 Skin Refinish 20% Serum and the M2 Skin Recovery Moisturizer to use and both have given my skin an improvement in look and feel.  The serum makes my skin feel tight and uplifted while the moisturizer makes it feel soft.  I wasn't able to apply makeup right after using the serum because it is slightly sticky to the touch.  Makeup would only go on evenly and correctly in the exact spots where the serum was applied.

I have horribly dry, irrated skin around my elbows and feet.  Pretty "EWWWW" I know, but I wanted to show you how the Personal Microderm works on my elbows.  I've also used it on my face, but the facial shots didn't show up well to give a clear visual.

There's still some redness on my elbows after using the microdermabrasion system, but they don't feel as calloused and I've noticed a decrease in overall thickness and dryness.  As for my face, I love how it now feels softer and more youthful.  I'll never look like a teenager again, but this system has helped with getting rid of dry, flaky skin and has made it more visually pleasing.

The only two things I can see as a detriment to the Personal Microderm At-Home Microdermabrasion System is cost and lack of storage.  There is nothing to store the little pieces in so I've resorted to using a Ziploc bag.  The entire system is a little pricey and it does cost extra to get replacement discs, but it has worked wonderfully on my skin and I'm sure it beats repeat visits to the dermatologist.

I received product for review from SkinCareRx.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.
