The Boy's Store Now Has A Rewards Program

I've done a couple of reviews and giveaways for The Boy's Store, with the most recent one being in April.  I love the large selection of boy's clothes they have available.  One June 1st, The Boy's Store introduced a customer rewards program.

Rewards Program Details

For every dollar you spend on merchandise, one point will be awarded to your account ($1 = 1 point). Points may be redeemed for gift certificates to The Boy's Store.  They will automatically update their records with each purchase. All you need to do is watch to see when you hit your desired threshold. Each increased threshold gives you an increased percentage back on your dollars spent.

Checking your points balance

When logged in you can check your points balance by following these steps:

1. Navigate to the account maintenance area (in logout tab)

2. Open account information link, right under your email information you will see the rewards point balance box.

Currently your points balance is updated manually. It might take up to 48 hours to be revised when you make a new purchase.

Think Nutrisystem Could Help My Diet?

I was on the fast track to losing weight, but it seems the diet train has halted.  I recently gained back three pounds of what I lost and I'm not liking what I see.  I know, personally, that when I am at a decent size I feel better about myself.  My confidence level is on the up when I'm at my desired size and descends downwards when I'm not.

I've heard of Nutrisystem Diet before but have never tried it.  Nutrisystem is a weight loss program that uses pre-packaged foods and portioned meals to help you lose weight.  For those who have been on this diet, what did you like about the diet plan?  Anything you didn't like?  Were there any foods that you liked above the others?  After reading up on the Nutrisystem Diet and its foods, I found a few meals that I'd like to give a try.  The Buffalo Chicken Wrap or the Sweet and Sour Chicken sounds delicious for dinner.  As a treat, the Chocolate Rainbow Delights and the Cheese Puffs sound like they'd satisfy my palate.  Oh, and for breakfast, the Blueberry Muffins would fill me up.

I'd like to hear what you think about the Nutrisystem Diet and if it was a successful plan for you.

Son Had Surgery - Keepin' Company Will Resume Next Week

Photobucket>

There will be no Keepin' Company Thursdays this week. I apologize to those who were wanting to link up. It will be back next week.  My son, Adam, had surgery yesterday and I didn't have time to contact someone for the #3 spot.

Adam's surgery went well.  He is now recovering at his father's home, then will be back here to recover some more.  He's still got a long road ahead of him.  He will be on bed rest for two weeks and on crutches for eight weeks.  Two pins were put in his big toe and a large incision was made in the side of his foot to put in a bone wedge.

Me and Shelby, along with his father and father's girlfriend, were at the hospital with him.  He seemed to do okay up until the point he had to put his hospital gown on.  Then he got really scared.  Poor boy broke mama's heart, seeing his tears and the fright on his face.  Not something I ever want to see again.

I was impressed with the hospital staff, with how they accommodated us and kept us informed along the way.  His surgery lasted for 3.5 hours and we received five phone calls while in the waiting room with progress updates.

My heart aches for my boy who is in pain and can't walk.  I'd take it all upon myself if I could spare him.  It is my hope that the surgery has fixed his hammertoe and he'll be able to do all the things he wants in life now.

Be You. Be True. - Review and Giveaway

Conveying positive messages to my kids is important.  I want them to know that they're okay just the way they are.  Their personality is what makes them who they are and I want them to be true to themselves.  That's why I'm supportive of the positivity that is conveyed with be you. be true. apparel for girls

Little miss pink is the spokesperson for be you. be true. and she is all about smiles, being confident and nice, making new friends, and being thoughtful of the planet.  She is here to offer "be" messages.  At this time, tee shirts are their product line but be you. be true. will be adding additional apparel items, accessories and jewelry in the fall.  The apparel fits all sizes, from babies to women.

I received some tee shirts from be you. be true. for review.  My original intent was to have a t-shirt for all four of my girls.  However, I chose the wrong size for my oldest step-daughters and they didn't fit.  It was my fault totally, as I chose juniors sizing instead of womens.  Because the girls like the designs of the shirts so well, I will be ordering them some that fit.
The same night the shirts arrived, we had my mother and daughter's friend over to eat with us. They modeled the be you. be true. t-shirts for us. The girls who sported the shirts, as well as the remainder of the girls there, thought that the messages on the apparel were cute and liked the designs. Little Miss Pink was on each shirt with her cheerful smile and darling pigtails. The t-shirts fit comfortably and were true to size. They are 100% cotton and tagless. My teenage daughter and youngest step-daughter have since worn the shirts quite a few times. The design has not faded after washing and there's minimal shrinkage. I'm fond of the pleasant messages that are conveyed through be you. be true. and how they give girls a chance to show who they are in a positive way.

Anyone inspired by little miss pink can submit their drawing to littlemisspink@beyoubetrue.com and at the end of the summer they will share all of the drawings and have their fans vote for their favorite.  The artist of the winning design will receive twenty tee shirts to give to their friends and family.

Wordful Wednesday - Mother Nature Blows

Very early Monday morning we were woke up to what sounded like the end of the world as we know it.  The rain fell from the sky in a downpour and the lightning looked like bad strobe lights at a rave party.  Since we had no power and no way to entertain ourselves, we ventured around town to survey the damage.  It was pretty insane.  The streets were lined with a maze of uprooted trees.  Over 15,000 homes were without electricity.  Our county had been declared in a state of emergency.

This tree was uprooted in front of my husband's boss' home.  As you can see, the whole base was completely taken out of the ground.  At the business where my husband works, two windows were completely shattered.  Speaking of work, I had the night off or I would've been taking the six hundred million calls that came in at the dispatch center, then would've been begging for a Xanax.  Many kudos to my fellow co-workers who had their arses handed to them and dealt with the mess.

My sister's yard looked like a forest surrounded it.

If you look closely to the right, you'll see what once was a fully-constructed car.  Now it's been reduced to rubbage.

This barn lost its roof and siding.

My nephew, Ozzy, along with his dad and my husband worked hard to clean up my sister's yard.

My mother's car now has free air conditioning in the back.

Camp got hit pretty hard too.  These people had nothing left of their outdoor decorations.

Behind this pile of golf cart and trees is a camper.  It was completely unvisible due to all the greenery atop it.

If you'd like to participate in Wordful Wednesday, link up at Seven Clown Circus and/or Parenting By Dummies.  If you'd like to participate in Wordy Or Not So Wordy Wednesday, link up at Traci66.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - You Done, Mother Nature?!

Stacy

Random Tuesday Thoughts, being hosted right now by Stacy Uncorked, is a way to put all your miscellaneous thoughts all in one post.
------------------------------------------
HBO suckered me in.  I went out to my cable company and purchased a six-channel HBO package just so I could watch the new season of True Blood.  I've never been so addicted to a TV show in all my life.  It's definitely not a show for the kids, but OH MY, this adult sure loves its excitement and allure.
---------------------------------
Logan ran his second 5K run last Saturday.  He didn't place this time, but it wasn't for lack of trying.  He ran those three miles in a torrential downpour of rain.  He enjoys doing the 5K runs so much I've registered him for five more throughout the year.
----------------------------------
Our county is now in a state of emergency.  Sunday night it rained so bad and the wind blew so hard that many trees were toppled over.  A lot of damage was done.  Thousands of homes are without power.  You can't go anywhere in town to get ice, bottled water, or flashlights.  They've all been bought up .  It's a pretty chaotic scene.
.........................................
Adam has his hammertoe surgery tomorrow.  I'm more nervous than he is.  He hasn't once declared nervousness about the surgery itself.  He's more stressed about having to be laid up for two weeks during his summer break.

Not Just For Breakfast Anymore - Book Review

Book Synopsis:

Benny wants a pet-a dog or a cat. You know, the kind of pet every else has. But other kids don't have his mom. She likes to do things differently. So Benny doesn't know what to expect when he first opens the pet carrier. Certainly not that his neighbors will want to kick his family out of town-he just got here! And he was just about to make the baseball team, too. Will he fight for his pet or back down?

My Review:

Although I haven't fully read it, I've had a chance to skim through Not Just For Breakfast Anymore.  From the parts I've read, this seems like an engaging book for kids in the 9-13 age category.  It is currently being read by my 10 year old step-daughter who seems to enjoy it thus far.  My 12 year old son, Logan, engaged himself reading it and gave a pretty detailed account of the book.  Be forewarned that he may be giving some of the plot away, but this is what Logan had to say in his words:

This story is about a boy called Benny who wanted a dog or cat for his birthday but instead he got a pig.  At first he didn't want the pig, but he later does.  When he told his friend, Major, that he got a pig for his birthday out loud, everyone heard him say it.  Benny was embarrassed so he said he was sick and stayed home for a few days, then it was spring break.  The health department wouldn't let him keep the pig but he kep trying.  Later on in the story, Benny's mom and dad had a fight and he blamed it on the pig and the pig got off the leash and ran out the door to the neighbor's yard.  He went after the pig and found it later in a puddle.  He got the pig out and they both fell asleep where his pig was found.  He got home and his parents were worreid about him.  A little further in the story, him and his parents and friends help him with petitions to help him keep his pig.  They fight against the health board.  A whole bunch of people show up to help get them to keep the pig,  They win and get to keep the pig.  I liked this story a lot.  It was funny and had fun things going on.  It also showed how a pet can be a friend, even if it's just a pig.

I received book for review from author.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Discovery Girls - Magazine Review and Giveaway

I have subscriptions to a few magazines that interest me. Some, I pass on to my girls to read when I'm done. Others get passed to co-workers or friends, without my girls getting a glance at them. That's because I'm pretty sure they're too young yet to know about how to romantically seduce a guy or find passion in bed. I'm an adult with an open mind, but the content in some of the magazines I read can be a bit racy even for me.

Discovery Girls is a magazine for tween girls that I find to be appropriate for my daughters to read. It is filled with advice, quizzes, and helpful tips. I hadn't heard of Discovery Girls until April of this year when I first did a review for the company, but apparently it's been in circulation for ten years. It was created by girls, for girls ages 8 to 12.

I received a few sample issues of Discovery Girls for review in April and now my two tweens look forward to receiving issues of this magazine. I found is that it has a lot of meaningful articles that apply to tween girls. For instance, peer pressure and learning to be generous are a couple of things talked about. There are fun quizzes and reviews. I came away feeling like this magazine is about helping tween girls with confidence, betterment, and growing independence. Tween girls tell their stories and give advice or answers to questions, making it relatable. There's a lot of reading material in each issue and they're not all about how to make your boy crush like you. Unlike a lot of magazines, Discovery Girls isn't littered with ads. There's a few here and there, but I don't feel like I'm being bombarded with them. I feel very comfortable with my daughters reading this magazine.

Of course, the opinions that really matter on this magazine are those of my two tween girls. Emma and Juliann both liked all the fun things that are to do in each issue but they also liked that the magazine has stories about girls their ages. Juliann's favorite is the 'Embarassing Moments' section in each issue. Since reading the magazine, both of my tweens have visited the Discovery Girls website on several occasion to enter giveaways, take quizzes, and read more advice.  The U.S. subscription price to Discovery Girls is $19.95 a year for six issues.

Discovery Girls is celebrating ten years and has put together a special, super-sized Collector's Edition.  It has the best of the features from the past ten years, plus more behind-the-scenes content and twelve role models.  It is jam-packed with ten years of the best fun quizzes, embarrassing moments, helpful advice, and sticky situations.  In the advice and tips sections, it gives the year of when it came out and each section is categorized so you can automatically fip to the fashion, features, quizzes, role model, and embarrassing moments sections.  The Collector's Edition hits newsstands July 8th.

Win It!

One person will win a 1-year subscription to Discovery Girls magazine, one set of the 4-book Fab Girls Guides, and the special 10-year Collector's Edition.

A New, Updated Look For My Blog

I've been blogging for two years now and have had the same look the whole time.  Although I was very pleased with what I had, it was time for a change.

Thanks to a blog design giveaway I won that was hosted by Kelly's Lucky You, I was able to get a new look for my blog.  Dream Up Studios created the look for me based on what I wanted.

Before creating my new blog design, I was emailed a form to give Dream Up Studios an idea of what I did and didn't like.  The form was very detailed so the best results could be created.  I gave instructions that I wanted something somewhat similar to what I already had and my new blog design was born.  I chose to keep my blog button as was, without any changes.

I am very pleased with my new design and with how Dream Up Studios kept in touch with me along the way.  I'm also happy with how they wanted to know details of my blog and what my vision was so they could create my new look.  Whether you are setting out to set up a blog from scratch or create a different design, I definitely recommend Dream Up Studios.

I received no compensation for this post.  I wrote this post on my own accord as a pleased consumer.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Keeping Your Hands Clean with Pocketbac Hand Gel Sanitizers - Review

I recently mentioned my household's obsession with Bath & Body Works.

Exhibit A -  My teenage daughter's dresser that holds her personal Bath & Body Works skincare products:

As you can see, she has no shortage of lotions, hand sanitizers, or body sprays.  We also have a lot of Bath & Body Works products in our bathroom and my step-daughters are no exclusion to the love we have for this company.  One of our overall favorite items they carry are the PocketBac Hand Gel Sanitizers.  These pocket-sized bottles contain natural ingredients and powerful germ killers to get hands fresh and clean.  Their size works well for portability and functionality.  Each hand gel sanitizer has a different fragrance and design.  PocketBac Holders, sold separately, come in different colors and have a loop to carry the hand sanitizers on your purse, belt, or bag.  All the girls in my household have one attached to their purse and backpack.

We're already loyal fans of the PocketBac Hand Gel Sanitizers, which made us even more thrilled to receive a sampling of some of the newest designs and fragrances.  There was a scramble over who would get which one.  Applie Pie was claimed by me.  I like the patriotic theme and apple fragrance.  S'mores was my favorite fragrance, but Shelby immediately staked claim to it.  It smells just like the familiar marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker treat.  The Capricorn one was taken over by Allyson.  Its label sports the Capricorn zodiac sign and birth time.  Juliann claimed the final one, Midnight Pomegranate.  The ones we received were new to us and we were thrilled to add them to our collection.  By squeezing a small amount into our hands when needed, we are able to help keep our hands germ-free and add a subtle pleasant fragrance to our hands.

Blue Ridge Jams - Review and Giveaway

Blue Ridge Jams has been making homemade gourmet food products in the Blue Ridge Mountains since 1961. Located south of Asheville, North Carolina with over 200 varieties of specialty food products available including old fashioned jams, jellies, preserves, pickles, relishes, salsas, syrups, and gourmet Jalapeno and Habanero pepper jelly there is something for everyone. Products are available to purchase at wholesale and retail pricing, with several private label options available.

Blue Ridge Jams gourmet food products are carefully hand-stirred in small batches, with the freshest fruits, vegetables, pure cane sugar, and finest ingredients to create a variety of wonderful gourmet flavors and surprising combinations that will give your taste buds a treat!

I've always had a fondness for great-tasting quality homemade jams, jellies, and syrups.  There's something about purchasing these types of food products from companies whose top priority isn't about mass producing, but about adding homemade flavor and love in a jar.  Blue Ridge Jams was kind enough to send me some of their food products for review.  I received the Three Pepper Jelly, Habanero Pineapple Preserves, Black Bean Salsa, and Habanero Pepper Relish.
I have a sissy mouth, so hot and spicy foods aren't for me.  However, my husband follows "the hotter, the better" mantra.  The habanero preserves and relish were right up his alley.  By the time he was done eating just a little bit of the habanero flavors, he was almost begging for a fire extinguisher.  Crazy thing is, he enjoys the firey challenge and keeps going back for more.  I tasted some of each atop a cracker.  HOT doesn't even begin to explain it.  On a scale of 1 to 10, he gives them a 12 for fire and taste.

The Black Bean Salsa was mild enough for my mouth and I enjoyed eating it with tortilla chips.  It also went well with tacos.  There was a plentiful amount of tomatoes, peppers, and corn in the salsa and the flavor was satisfying.

I Am A Hormel Extended Family Blogger

I'm excited to announce that I am a Hormel Foods Extended Family Blogger.  I, along with a few other selected bloggers, will be sharing food entertaining ideas and tips for the next few months.  Being an enthusiast for Hormel Foods, I'm elated to share this information with you, as well as learn a few new things myself.

Summer marks the beginning a season full of fun with family and friends. How do you celebrate graduations and/or the end of the school year? Do you host a party? Bring a favorite dish to a family pot luck? It's easier for us during the summer to celebrate important milestones because our large group can gather outside and mingle.  The majority of our summer events are held at one of my family's campsites at the campground we stay at every weekend.  The men usually cook meat on the grill and everyone brings a covered dish to share.  Having so many family members and friends at the campground means that we are almost always celebrating something every weekend.  It's a fun time being surrounded by so many loved ones and eating such delicious food.

Looking for a new way to celebrate an important milestone? Here are a few ideas:

 Encourage your child to invite a couple of friends over to celebrate the end of the school year. They’ve worked hard all year (and so have you!), so take an afternoon or evening to reflect on the year and recognize everyone’s hard work. Tip: Serve a new twist on an all-time favorite with Braided Stuffed Pizza Bread or Easy Pepperoni Pizzas and pop in a favorite movie.

 Give a grad a unique gift with a copy of Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss. This classic is an inspiring story for any graduate starting a new chapter in life.

 Celebrate the start to summer with a backyard barbeque with the whole family. Be sure to have outdoor games like croquet and badminton that are easy to play and are fun for everyone! Tip: Everyone is sure to love BBQ Blue Sandwiches with a side of Grilled Fruits and Applewood Bacon Spinach Salad.

As part of the Hormel Extended Family Blogger program, I will be receiving products to compensate for my time.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Redbook Happy Hour House Party - #Giveaway

Thanks to House Party, I was one of the applicants selected to host a Redbook Happy Hour House Party. On June 19th I gathered a few friends and family members at my campsite to discuss the new formatting and look of Redbook magazine.  I was surprised to find that a couple of the guests had never heard of Redbook before.  It's been around for so long that I assumed it was a household name.  For my readers that don't know, Redbook is a women's magazine that explores different areas of life ranging from parenting and fashion to love and money.

House Party and Redbook sent me and my guests a wonderful mix of samples.  Some of the things in the party pack included:
free Redbook subscription cards
Redbook cosmetic cases
Redbook reusable bags
L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara
L'Oreal Paris Magic Smooth Souffle Makeup beauty seals/cards
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Serums
L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner packettes
Seattle's Best Coffee packs
Snyders of Hanover Three Cheese Nibblers
Carolina Pad paper clips
NCircle DVDs
Also included were literature sheets and tip cards.  As a host, I also received free Snyder's of Hanover coupons and boxes of L'Oreal Sublime Mousse by Healthy Look Hair Color
My guests ranged in age from 17 to 65.  It was a casual, laid-back affair of girls getting together to talk about the different samples and what we liked about each of them.  We also discussed beauty confessions and embarassing moments.  The current issue of Redbook magazine brought about a discussion of what articles we liked in the magazine and which ones didn't excite us so much.

There weren't any particular favorites among the samples as a whole.  Each person had their own favorite and it varied among the group.  What everyone agreed on is that Redbok and House Party went all out to provide some great samples for guests.  We learned of products we handn't heard of before and revisited with some familiar products.

Win It!
Two people will each win a free 1 year subscription to Redbook magazine.
