ChicWrap - Review and Giveaway

ChicWrap is a must have for anyone who shares a passion for cooking.  ChicWrap is the next generation of plastic wrap with its ZipSafe Slide Cutter, professional quality plastic wrap, strong wipe-clean box, and non-skid rubber feet.  Available in six designs, ChicWrap is only $9.99 and works with all brands of plastic wrap.

If you're anything like me, you get frustrated by plastic wrap.  It doesn't cut evently and I've wasted more than I've used by the time I'm done wrapping a bowl or container.  I received a ChicWrap in the Citrus design for review and have found the frustrations of plastic wrap doesn't have to be a big deal.    To use the ChicWrap, all you have to do is pull out the desired amount of plastic wrap and run the Zip Safe Slide Cutter across its tracks to cut off the plastic wrap.

The plastic wrap is hidden inside a stylish box that's made of sustainable rigid construction that's easy to wipe clean.  The box doesn't fall apart when  you're trying to dispense the plastic wrap like a lot of original packaging for plastic wrap does.  The ZipSafe Slide Cutter allows me to evenly cut the plastic wrap without having jagged or torn edges.  It's designed so you don't get cut while dispensing the wrap and it glides smoothly across so you have even edges.  The 250' of professional plastic wrap is strong and clings tight.  The non-skid rubber feet on the box also aid in keeping the box from slipping while dispensing the plastic wrap.
The only complaint I have is that instructions are not included on how to assemble the ZipSafe Slide Cutter and non-skid rubber feet.  There are small illustrations on the bottom of the box but they were a tad confusing for me.  After messing with it a couple of times, I realized that there is a backing that needs to be removed from the ZipSafe Slide Cutter so it can adhere to the top of the box.  With that said, that's a minor downside compared to how helpful and functional the ChicWrap is.  I feel you get your money's worth and more with ChicWrap.

Win It!

One person will win a ChicWrap (design will be chosen by sponsor).

Honey Bunches of Oats - Cereal Review

We like cereal at my house and will go between several different brands and flavors.  If we like it, we'll buy it.  I've never tried Honey Bunches of Oats before but was more than happy to test it out with my family.  The Roasted Honey Bunches of Oats have a nice, crispy texture and crunchy flavor.  It's not overly sweet and has a light honey taste.  It doesn't get soggy in milk unless it's been sitting there for a long time.  Honey Bunches of Oats was well received by me, my husband, and kids.

Honey Bunches of Oats are made with 10 grams of whole grain per serving. The cereal has 6 grams of sugar per serving, making it much lower than most cereals.  With only 0g trans fat, 0g saturated fat, and 0mg cholesterol it's heart healthy.

I received product for review from Honey Bunches of Oats on behalf of Purex.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Konvine - Review and Giveaway

Weekends at the campground are busy.  We are always doing something.  One of my favorite activities there is dancing to the DJ or live bands.  By the end of the night, my shoes are usually kicked off and thrown around somewhere.  I've finally found the solution to keeping my feet comfortable while dancing and still be wearing cute shoes.  That solution is in Konvine.

Konvine shoes are rollable, foldable, ballerina flats that are great for women on the go.  They are ideal for travel slippers, around the office, after a big night out, and several other occasions.  Konvine foldable ballet flats are not disposable and will last you well into the future.

Konvine has quite a few different designs of foldable flats to choose from.  I went with the G.I. Jane Roll-Ups with Peace Sign.  They arrived in a black branded box.  I honestly questioned at first how in the world the flats would fold out to fit adequately on my feet.  Once I slipped them on, I was quite pleased with how well they fit.  I wear a size 10 and they were true to size.

The design of my foldable flats are camo with a very pretty, sparkly peace sign adornment on each one.  The soles are sturdy and not intensely thin.  I love wearing my Konvine flats around the house when my feet are hurting and I really like wearing them when I'm pumpin' up the jam at camp.  When I'm not wearing them, I have them in the drawstring pouch inside my purse so I can just grab them and slip them on when I'm ready to wear them.  The flats are super cute and super functional.

Win It!

One person will win a pair of Konvine foldable ballerina flats in choice of design and size.

Wordful Wednesday - Memorial Day Weekend

It's always a good time at camp and it was especially fun this Memorial Day weekend.  The weekend was packed with several things to do, including a golf cart parade, Bingo, a balloon launch, a live band, Poker, a bachelorette party, and lots of food.

During the golf cart parade, people decorated their golf carts with red, white and blue, then made a procession around the entire campground throwing candy to the kids.

There were several cookouts and meal times with friends.

A few people tried their hand at Poker.

Me and my man
I'm all hot and sweaty from dancing.

Costumes even made their appearance here and there.

Names were put into balloons of veterans and servicemen and women for a balloon launch.  A crowd gathered to hear prayers, sing 'God Bless America' and launch the balloons.

How was your Memorial Day weekend?

He Was Born With the Gift of Running

Some people just have a natural talent; Logan's is running.  He didn't get it from his momma or dad because neither one of us will run unless we're being chased.  Although I highly encourage Logan to practice after school or on weekends, he won't for fear that people might watch him.  How that's any different than people watching him when he's competing, I don't know.  His logic is a little off sometimes.

An awards ceremony was held Tuesday to honor those who competed in track & field.  Logan earned eight medals and seven ribbons this year, all for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Logan qualified for state in four events, but did not place there.  Guess what his theory for that is?!  He got a haircut before state and swears that it was because he didn't have long hair when he competed.  His hair was longer when he won all the other events and, by golly, it must have helped with the aerodynamics!

Like I said, his logic is a little off but his talent is natural.

I'm proud of what Logan has accomplished this year and can't wait to see  him succeed even more next year.

Trop50 Juice with Tea - Review and Giveaway

Tropicana Trop50 has grown its line-up with the introduction of Trop50 Juice with Tea - a new line offering fruit juice goodness with 50 percent fewer calories, now with tea.  The refreshingly different juice with tea combinations are made with delicious fruit juices and white and green teas to deliver a great-tasting and nutritious juice beverage.  Found in the chilled aisle, the line includes Trop50 Peach with White Tea, Trop50 Raspberry with Green Tea, and Trop50 Pear Lychee with White Tea.  With 35-40 calories in each 8-ounce glass, they provide a full day's supply of vitamin C and is a good source of antioxidant vitamin E.  To find out where to purchase Trop50 Juice with Tea, you can use the product locator.

To celebrate the launch of Trop50 Juice with Trea I want to know - what makes you refreshingly different?  I'm always being told that I'm different, or off-the-wall.  That doesn't bother me.  I don't want to be normal anyhow.  One thing that makes me refreshingly different is that I can recite the alphabet backwards at lightning speed.  I can also verbalize and spell words backwards.  I'm not sure that being able to do that will get me anywhere in life, but they're entertaining quirks nonetheless.

Trop50 Juice with Tea is definitely refreshingly different.  I've never drank a juice beverage with tea.  After trying it, I've got to say I like it.  My family tried all three flavors, with Trop50 Raspberry with Green Tea being our favorite.  I don't care for the flavor of peach so I wasn't too keen on Trop50 Peach with White Tea but the rest of the household happily consumed it.  Trop50 Juice with Tea is something that we'll definitely be purchasing in the future, especially this summer when we will want a refreshing drink to quench our thirst.

Win It!

Three people will each win three coupons for free Trop50 Juice with Tea.

Emerson Creek Pottery - Cracker Basket Review

Jim Leavitt founded Emerson Creek Pottery in 1977.  The ceramic pieces have been featured at Mt. Vernon, Monticello and the Smithsonian Institute.  Created in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the pottery is formed of clay made onsite. Each piece is hand made, hand painted and fired in a gas kiln. Each pattern is a series of carefully planned strokes. No templates or stencils are used. The patterns are practiced and committed to memory,  Emerson Creek Pottery currently features13 different lines of ceramic pottery.  All of their work is microwave and diswasher safe, as well as lead free and ovenproof.

I received an Iris Cracker Basket from Emerson Creek Pottery.  It's a beautiful piece in and of itself, but I'm particularly partial to this piece of servingware because I know it was crafted by hand.  A real person, not a big corporate machine, molded the piece and painted it.  Looking at the detail and craftsmanship of the cracker basket, you can tell that skill and talent of the person who made it.

I like to entertain guests at the campground.  I've used this piece several times during our cookouts.  Crackers, fruits, and nuts have been beautifully arranged in the ceramic piece that's painted with Japanese irises.  Cracker baskets are an elegant way to arrange appetizers to make them seem less ordinary.

AeroSpin - Yo-Yo Review and Giveaway

Aerobie, a sport toys brand, has been known to provide exciting performance while encouraging physical activity involving skill and exercise.  I've worked with the company in the past and am enthused to be doing another review and giveaway for them.  This time I'll be featuring the AeroSpin.

The AeroSpin is a yo-yo that will keep kids of all skill levels occupied for hours of indoor and outdoor play.  It is a precision-crafted  yo-yo with a soft grip that's easy on the hand and the household.  The AeroSpin's ball bearing allows for long sleep times and its adjustable gap makes string and looping tricks easier.  Each AeroSpin comes with a booklet of tips and tricks.
I've never been able to master the art of doing tricks with yo-yos.  It seems I do more string winding than anything else.  My kids have played with a handful of yo-yos and I will say that I could immediately tell that the AeroSpin is built sturdier and is more durable than several I've seen.

The kids, especially my boys, have played with the AeroSpin several times, trying to master tricks and maneuvers.  The booklet of tips and tricks is fairly easy to understand and has been very beneficial to learning the ins and outs of yo-yos.  It tells all you need to know to successfully take care of the AeroSpin, how and when to replace parts, and guides you through how to master classic tricks.  Although the kids are no yo-yo masters and probably won't be entering tournaments any time soon, they've learned a new respect for the updated spin on a classic toy now that they know more about it and what to do with it.

Win It!

One person will win an AeroSpin yo-yo.

Peloponnese Greek Foods - Review and Giveaway

Entertaining is part of every culture, and in the Mediterranean they know how to prepare flavorful meals with all of the warmth and finesse of the Greek climate.  Peloponnesse has diverse, flavorful and new food products that help you host a Mediterranean style party or dinner.  From olives to peppers and grape leaves, Peloponnese® products compromise a variety of authentic Greek food freshly harvested, naturally processed and uniquely exported from Greece to add old-world flair to ordinary home cooking.

I've never really eaten Greek or Mediterranean foods before.  It's not that I'm against trying them, but wasn't quite sure how to prepare them.  Recently, I was able to make a few meals and snacks using Peloponnese food products and was in for a new world of tastes I've never had.

I received the following Peloponnese products to try:

Peloponnese Artichoke Spread
Peloponnese Hummus Spread
Peloponnese Halved Kalamata Gourmet Black Olives
Peloponnese Florina Whole Sweet Peppers
Peloponnese Baba Ganoush
Peloponnese Antipasto Party Olives
Specialty Olive Bowl
After preparing meals with Peloponnese foods, I discovered new ways of creating dishes.  I used the Antipasto Party Olives as an addition to a pasta salad.  The jar contained not only brine-cured olives, but also garden vegetables and garlic slices.  By adding a jar of the Antipasto Party Olives to the pasta salad, I was able to add new flavor to a traditional dish.

I had never even heard of Baba Ganoush before receiving it to try.  It's an eggplant and tahini spread with a creamy texture.  It made a delicious snack when spread on crackers.  We used the Florina Whole Sweet Pappers by slicing them up and adding them to our tacos.  The peppers are red and thick with a slightly sweet taste.  The Halved Kalamata Gourmet Black Olives were also used as garnish for the tacos.  I wasn't particularly fond of the bland flavor of the Hummus Spread but my daughter and her boyfriend liked it spread on crackers.  The Artichoke Spread was more to my liking and I've used it as a spread on top of beer bread.

Peloponnese was an unknown brand to me until recently.  I enjoy trying new foods and wasn't disappointed with how Peloponnese added a Greek essense to my cuisine.
Win It!

One person will win a Peloponnese Greek foods package.

This Means War - DVD Review and Giveaway

Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy form the perfect love triangle in this action packed comedy
Available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download May 22

They are the CIA’s best, trained for any situation…except one. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment plays the ultimate spy game as two best friends fight for the right of one woman’s hand in THIS MEANS WAR, coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download May 22. Starring Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon* (Walk the Line), Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), the laugh-out-loud comedy gets even better on Blu-ray with three alternate endings that answer the question – what if she chose the other guy?

The world's deadliest CIA operatives, FDR Foster (Pine) and Tuck (Hardy) are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman (Witherspoon). Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis – each other.

FDR VS TUCK – COMPARISON FOR THE LADIES

In This Means War, Lauren had one big question looming on her mind – which is the right guy for her – FDR or Tuck? In this feature, we will create a comparison of the two, just like she did with her bestie Trish.

FDR

Has commitment issues
Plenty of ex-girlfriends
Has T-rex hands
Tall
Blunt
Doesn't know much about art
Spontaneous
Uses pick-up lines

FDR & Tuck

Can wear a suit really well
Live in really nice apartments
Travel a lot
Rich
Can protect you
Adventure-seekers
Have a dangerous job

Tuck

Sweet
Has a child and an ex-wife
Hasn't been on the dating scene in a while
British
Likes to plan
Has manly hands
Takes relationship slowly and more carefully - he's safe

My Review:

Reese Witherspoon has always been one of my favorite actresses, so I was excited to see This Means War just based on that.  Reese plays Lauren Scott, a lead product evaluator who has no luck in the love department.  She meets two men, Tuck and FDR, who sabotage each other and try to win the heart of Lauren.  Although I'd consider it more of a chick flick, This Means War is also packed with plenty of action to engage your man into watching it.  There's also plenty of comedy to make you laugh out loud.

Win It!

One person will win This Means War on DVD.

Act of Valor - DVD Review

DVD Synopsis:

The only easy day was yesterday. In the Bandito Brothers’ ACT OF VALOR, an elite military force, portrayed by active-duty U.S. Navy SEALs, carries out an impossible mission with insane courage and incredible teamwork in one of the most gripping and emotionally charged movies of the year. Landing June 5th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the ACT OF VALOR Blu-ray and DVD is loaded with extras including several deleted scenes, interviews with Navy SEALs, director’s commentary, exclusive featurettes, including a look at the real bullets and tactics used during filming, and much more! ACT OF VALOR was theatrically released by Relativity Media on February 24th and became the No. 1 movie in America in its debut.

An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, ACT OF VALOR stars a group of active-duty U.S. Navy SEALs, alongside actors Roselyn Sanchez, Alex Veadov, Jason Cottle and Nester Serrano, in a film like no other in Hollywood’s history. A fictionalized account of real life Navy SEAL operation, ACT OF VALOR features a riveting story that takes audiences on an adrenaline-fueled, edge-of-their-seat journey.

When a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA operative unexpectedly results in the discovery of an imminent, terrifying global threat, an elite team of highly trained Navy SEALs must immediately embark on a heart-stopping secret operation, the outcome of which will determine the fate of us all.

ACT OF VALOR combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure film–showcasing the skills, training and tenacity of the greatest action heroes of them all: real Navy SEALs.

Produced and directed by former Baja 1000 champion Mike “Mouse” McCoy and former stuntman Scott Waugh, and written by Kurt Johnstad (300), the ACT OF VALOR Blu-ray and DVD arrives June 5th just in time for Father’s Day.

My Review:

Due to violence and scenes of torture, I do not recommend that children watch this movie.  It has an R rating for a reason.  With that said, I recommend Act of Valor for any adult who wants a fairly realistic military movie.  The plot of the story is ficticious but real Navy SEALS are used in the movie to play alongside  actors. The scenario of the story is that SEAL Team 7 learns a drug smuggler has connections with a terrorist and they go on missions to learn the connection between the two and stop the terrorist before reaching America.

In Act of Valor, you get a sense of what bravery, loyalty, and commitment Navy SEALS employ to carry through on tasks that ordinary citizens wouldn't dream of being able to carry out.

I received DVD for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products.  Your opinions and results may differ.
