Ruth's Toffee - Review and Giveaway

When I make a purchase, I am not only buying a product.  I am also taking in an overall sense of what a company is like, how they treat their customers, and how much pride they take in what they make.  Ruth's Toffee is a company that strikes me as one who cares about their customers as well as their products.  They also strike me as a company that takes great diligence in what they make and want to bring the best to their consumers.

Ruth's Toffee is a family-owned business located in the mountains of Western Colorado.  Their products are carefully handmade by Ruth using only the finest ingredients available to bring you a truly superior product. Your satisfaction is guaranteed or your money back.  Products include Ruth's Fine Almond Toffee, fudge, toppings and sauces, truffles, nut clusters, and more.
I received a couple boxes of Ruth's Fine Almond Toffee for review.  Communication with the company was personable and I felt like I wasn't just another customer passing by.  The toffee arrived in a shiny gold box with several pieces of toffee placed inside.   The golden almond toffee is made from sweet cream butter, sugar, and almonds, sandwiched between a layer of milk chocolate and crushed almonds.  The crunchiness of the toffee combined with the flavors made it an excellent treat.  My husband and kids liked the toffee as much as I did.  It tasted wonderfully delicious.

Win It!

One person will win a 1/2 lb. box of Ruth's Fine Almond Toffee.

Plan A Summer "Stay-Cation" - #HormelFamily

With expensive gas prices and airfare, planning a vacation out of town mauy not fit into your family's budget this sumer.  Yet, there is no need to be disappointed about a missed vacation opportunity.

With a family of eight, a vacation is too costly and it's not always feasible for us all to get together at the same time, what with all the business of our daily lives and activites.  That's not to say we're not having fun this summer.  Instead of going on vacations, we stay fairly close to the area and go on "stay-cations".

Our summer has already been packed with fun activities and it hasn't cost us an arm and a leg.  We spend a lot of weekends and some weeknights at our campsite at the local campground.  We go swimming, listen to live bands, ride golf carts, play Bingo, and enjoy each other's company.  If we're not camping, we like to head a couple hours away to the drag strip to watch cars drag race.

Food is usually a big deal when we are camping or drag racing.  Usually the entire group gets together to plan a big meal and we all eat together.  Everyone pitches in on the meat and each family brings a couple side dishes.  Hormel Foods has several recipes that I've used this year and because Hormel Foods is quality food, it's always welcomed at our meals.  Last weekend at camp one dish that I created was Mixed Up Munchies, a snack for the kids to munch on.  It was a favorite and I'll definitely be making it again.  It's super easy to make, doesn't cost a lot, doesn't require a lot of ingredients, and tastes yummy.

Ingredients:

1 (3.5 ounce) bag microwave popcorn
1 (15 ounce) bag prepared cheese-flavored snack mix
1 cup Hormel pepperoni minis

Directions:

1.  Prepare popcorn according to package directions.
2.  In large bowl, toss together popcorn, snack mix and pepperoni minis

Are you going on vacation this summer or are you planning a stay-cation?

I received products from Hormel Foods as part of the Hormel Foods Extended Family Blogger program.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Not only am I awesome...I'm relentlessly awesome!  If you don't believe me, just read my t-shirt from Headline Shirts.  It'll boldly let you know just how awesome I am!

My husband usually has a hankering for tshirts that are off-the-wall or have sarcastic sayings.  I'll admit that I like to wear them too from time to time as well.  I like the attention I get when someone notices the hilarity or oddity of a shirt I'm wearing.  Headline Shirts sent me one of their funny tees and I went with the Relentlessly Awesome tee.

Made Super Soft 100% American 30/1 combed ringspun cotton, the screenprinted tee is tagless.  The tee fits me well and has minimal shrinkage after washing.  The message on the tshirt is loud and clear.  I like the comfort and fit of the shirt and it's almost as awesome as I am!

Headline Shirts was founded in 2005 in San Francisco. Headline Shirts creates awesome t-shirts from themes in the news and pop culture. When something happens in your world, Headline Shirts is on the scene to make a t-shirt about it. From the silly to the sarcastic, you should be able to find a shirt that matches your personality.  If you sign up to receive the Headline Shirts bi-weekly newsletter, you will receive a $5 gift code for your Headline Shirts order.

Power of Two - Marriage Counseling Online Review

My husband and I have a generally good relationship.  We rarely argue and generally communicate well with each other.  With that said, we're not perfect.  Strengthening our relationship and evaluating ourselves is important in forging ahead with a happy future.

I was given the opportunity to review Power of Two, an online program that teaches couples how to stop fighting, how to communicate in a relationship, and how to build trust and enhance intimacy.  The program includes videos, podcasts, worksheets, and interactive exercises and is for couples at all stages of their relationship.  You can work the program on your own schedule and can do it alone or with your partner.

Jason isn't much on reading material on how to improve or better life areas.  It's not that he doesn't care; It's that he just doesn't like to read.  He started Power of Two with me and we discussed some of the skills that we learned about how to save a marriage, but I ended up doing the majority of the work on Power of Two.  After watching videos and reading material, I usually go to Jason and discuss with him what I've learned.  It's definitely helped broaden communication between me and Jason and it opens up discussion on our opinions.

The Power of Two curriculum is based on the fundamental belief that with the right skills almost every conflict in a relationship can have a win-win solution.  Power of Two teaches the skills to help you avoid fights and eliminate compromise with effective communication skills and win-win solutions for your disagreements.

The cost of Power of Two is $18 per month.  I think that's a little steep but it is a lot less expensive than going to therapy.  You can spend as little or as much time as you want on the site.  Power of Two is informative and has helped steer me in a more positive direction with my relationship with Jason.

I received a free membership to Power of Two for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Wordful Wednesday - Redneck Wedding

Yee Haw!  Three weeks ago a couple of good friends got married at camp.  It was a true Redneck wedding.  There were no frills or fufu, but it was loads of fun.  It was the bride's first marriage and the couple wanted it very comfortable and fun for everyone.
The bride's father is deceased so she chose my brother-in-law to escort her to the ceremony in a golf cart and give her away in marriage.

The bride and groom wore t-shirts and hats and got married at their campsite with a large number of friends there to witness.

You don't have to give us a reason to get dressed up in costume!  My sister crafted tutus for herself, me and two of our friends.  We dubbed ourselves the Overgrown Ballerinas and kinda slid our way in as the bridesmaids.

Forget the stuffiness and formality, this is the kind of wedding I like!

Keep Your Kids Safe by Becoming AWARxE of Online Counterfeit Drug Dangers‏

You know how important and life-saving prescription drugs can be for yourself, and also for your children. As a mother, there is nothing you want more than to keep your children safe from harm.

What you may not know, is that many Internet sites hawking prescription drugs are actually fake and their products could cause more harm than good. There are documented cases of adults in the US harmed by counterfeit drugs and the effects of such products could be potentially be much worse for a child. We must do everything we can to keep our children and families safe and healthy. You can do so today, but learning and spreading knowledge to your loved ones.

Founded in 1904, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) is the impartial professional organization that supports the state boards of pharmacy in protecting public health.

Fact: Counterfeit pills sold online often contain too little or too much of the requested medication, the wrong medication altogether or harmful substances. Toxins such as glue, chalk, and rat poison are used by counterfeiters to make these pills. Drug counterfeiters do not care about your child’s health; their goal is to make a profit. Some fake online pharmacies may even falsely claim to be Canadian to seem like a safe source for medicine. By some estimates, as much as 90% of the medication bought online may be fake.

AWARXE wants consumers to know about the safest way to purchase prescription medications online. When ordering prescription medication online, look for the VIPPS (Verified Internet Practice Pharmacy Sites) seal, and check the VIPPS list on AWARErx.org to make sure the site is listed there. VIPPS-accredited sites are in agreement with all federal and state regulations and NABP safety standards. Some VIPPS-accredited sites may even offer discount prescription programs to help offset the cost of medications.
More about VIPPS:

· AWARXE advises patients to use VIPPS-accredited Internet pharmacies when they opt to order medications online, and to learn how to avoid fake Internet pharmacies selling dangerous counterfeit drugs.

· NABP has reviewed more than 9,600 websites selling prescription drugs.

· Only 3%, or 291, of these sites appear to be in compliance with state and federal laws and NABP patient safety and pharmacy practice standards.

· The other 97% of these sites are considered rogue sites and are listed as Not Recommended on the AWARxE website, www.AWARERX.ORG.

The best and most effective way to help fight this problem is by spreading awareness. To learn more about where to properly buy prescription medications online, please visit www.AWARERX.ORG.

Practice Safe Breath Everywhere With Dentyne's New Split2Fit Pack‏ - Giveaway

We’ve all experienced bad breath, but with summer upon us and love in the air it’s time to be on the safe side.  Bad breath is a mood killer and I, for one, won't go in for a kiss if a person's breath is rank.  I may not remember every detail of every date, but I can recall whether or not a person was worth kissing again.  If they had foul breath, those chances were slim to none.  I can particularly recall a date I had many moons ago and I can still remember everything about that kiss.  I think it's because that guy had such fresh breath.  Call me crazy, but that kiss was memorable just because I can recall how wonderful his breath tasted.  No one wants to go in for some tongue action when they have to fear they're scraping the inside of a garbage truck.

The Dentyne Safe Breath Survey (commissioned by Wakefield Research) takes a look at some of the best and worst “breath offenders” so you’re prepared for every intimate moment. And now with Dentyne’s new Split2Fit pack designed to fit almost anywhere, practicing safe breath while in those precarious situations will be easier than ever.

THE STATISTICS DON’T LIE

Check your breath – it’s the safe thing to do. The Safe Breath Survey examines the risks that 18 to 34-year-olds are taking with their breath, how preparedness factors into a successful social encounter and the rules of attraction when it comes to dating and breath.

•53% of Americans ages 18 to 34 have had an “intimate moment” cut short because they were unprepared. While granny panties or white briefs can be a mood-killer, 76% say bad breath would be a more embarrassing end to an “intimate moment” than unflattering underwear.

•There are some things you can look past and still have a good date, such as sweaty palms (50%) or wrinkled clothes (47%). However, try to avoid the garlic mashed potatoes at dinner: 86% of those polled could not disregard bad breath on a first date.

•Feeling good in your new pair of designer jeans? No matter what you're wearing, 71% feel less confident meeting someone of the opposite sex if their breath isn't fresh.

•58% have lost interest in someone they were attracted to due to bad breath. And that’s no smooching secret; charm alone can only get you so far - 48% of women 18 to 34 would end a relationship with someone with consistently bad breath.

•The truth hurts, and most aren’t ready to tell it to you straight – especially when it comes to breath blunders. 85% of people think it would be harder to tell someone they have bad breath than tell them their zipper’s down.

•Skinny jeans definitely have their drawbacks. 78% have sacrificed essentials during a night out to avoid carrying them, and nearly 1 in 4 (23%) have left gum at home because they didn’t want to carry it – a rookie mistake.

DENTYNE INTRODUCES THE NEW SPLIT2FIT PACK, THE CURE FOR UNSAFE BREATH

Fear not – Dentyne has the fix. With the introduction of the NEW Dentyne Split2Fit Pack you no longer have to make this sacrifice. The Dentyne Split2Fit pack is an innovative, versatile and sleek package that holds 33 percent more gum than before (16 vs. 12 pieces) and can be split into two smaller, sleeker and easier-to-carry packs. Now you can carry all sixteen (16) pieces at once, or, if space is limited, you can split the pack into two smaller halves that are easier to slip in to close-fitting places like a shirt pocket, a clutch or those skinny jeans! In addition, Dentyne has launched a new flavor, Dentyne Ice Mint Frost, bringing a fresh new taste to the Dentyne lineup of intense breath freshening gums.

Check out this tongue-in-cheek "Crash Test Dummies" video that demonstrates just how "slim" new Dentyne Split2Fit Pack gum is.

Cobblestone Cookies - Review

Cobblestone Cookies are the award-winning glazed gingerbread tile cookies originated in Sonoma County, California. Winner of multiple awards, including first place at Sonoma Harvest Fair, the beautiful, molded cookies are big, thick, rich, soft and full of old world spices. The floral and grape cluster pattern on these hand-rolled, glazed gingerbread tiles dates back to mid-16th century in Southern Germany, representing the intricately designed sweets of that time.  Cobblestone Cookies are always delivered fresh because they are baked to order. These large tile cookies are over 1/4 pound each and are made with all natural and fresh ingredients without any preservatives.

I received four individual gingerbread tile cookies and was first grabbed by the size of each individual cookie.  They are mighty in size and big enough to share or eat part now, part later.  The cookies are designed with leaves, pumpkins, vines, and flowers.  They indeed have a cobblestone look to them.

Each cookie is individually wrapped.  Because of the size and thickness of the cookies, my family split them and shared between all of us.  The cookies are very soft and taste fresh.  Ginger and cinnamon are the most notable flavors in the cookies.  The subtle glaze gives the cookies just the right amount of sweetness.  Cobblestone Cookies has turned gingerbread tile cookies into edible art.

Chocolate Fortunes! - Review and Giveaway

There's something thrilling about the crunch of a fortune cookie as you crack it open and pull out a tiny slip of paper that reveals your fortune and lucky numbers.  What would make an ordinary fortune cookie more extraordinary?  Why, if it's dipped in chocolate, of course!  Chocolate Fortunes! is the largest distributor of hand-dipped personalized and decorated chocolate covered fortune and almond cookies since 1987.

Chocolate Fortunes! specializes in hand-made hand-dipped chocolate covered Giant and Baby Giant fortune cookies and traditional fortune cookies in many chocolate flavors including your choice of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, dark mint chocolate, and famous Rainbow of Flavors chocolates.  Custom messages can be added to the fortune cookies at an additional cost.

Chocolate Fortunes! sent me some of their hand-dipped chocolate fortune cookies and almond cookies for review.    They arrived in gift packaging that included 12 fortune cookies in one bag and 10 almond cookies in a bag.  Each almond cookie and fortune cookie was individually wrapped for single servings and maximum freshness.

I placed the individually wrapped cookies in a bowl and served them to guests at my daughter's high school graduation.   They were a big hit!  There were white chocolate and dark chocolate almond cookies and fortune cookies.  Each cookie was halfway covered with either white chocolate or dark chocolate.

The crunchiness of the fortune cookies with the sweetness of chocolate was tasteful bliss.  Inside each fortune cookie was a fortune with lucky numbers underneath.  One of the fortunes read "You have the strength to overcome obstacles on your way to success."

I'd never eaten an almond cookie before and definitely wasn't disappointed with the ones from Chocolate Fortunes!  Each cookie had an almond sliver on top and was halved with either white or dark chocolate.  The cookies melted in my and were oh-so-delicious!  The fortune cookies and almond cookies tasted fresh and quite yummy.  They'd be perfect as favors for a special event or as treats to satisfy a sweet tooth.

ToiletTree - Review and Giveaway

In November I did a review and giveaway for the Fogless Shower Mirror from ToiletTree Products.  Seven months later and my family still uses the Fogless Shower Mirror in our shower.  It's quite handy.  I recently had the opportunity to review another product from ToiletTree, the  ToiletTree Products Toiletry Bag with Travel Accessories.

This toiletry bag is designed to organize all of your toiletries in one place while traveling. This heavy duty bag has a large double zipper compartment for easy access. The bag also contains a separate compartment on the bottom of the bag for storing included accessories. Each toiletry bag comes with three TSA approved travel bottles – individually marked as Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash. A toothbrush case and collapsible cup with pill holder are also included.  The bag can also be used as a makeup or medicine bag. It is designed with a fully water resistant, easy to clean nylon fabric interior. The exterior features reinforced double stitching with piping trim that is designed for easy cleanups.

I don't travel a whole lot but this toiletry bag has been useful when I go camping on weekends.  I use the top compartment to store my makeup and the bottom compartment holds the travel accessories that I use when I take a shower at the shower house.  Rather than having to take full-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash to the shower house with me, I just put small amounts of each into the marked bottles and take them with me.  The toothbrush holder and compact cup are also nice to have.  My load has been eased by taking this toiletry bag with me to the shower house.  When I'm not using the travel accessories, they are strapped in place by elastic, ensuring they are secure.  The top compartment is roomy enough that it holds all of my needed makeup.  There's a mesh zippered pocked in the bottom compartment and that's where I store my hair pieces.  I'm travelling next weekend and staying in a hotel.  This toiletry bag will definitely be going with me!
.

Win It!

One person will win a Toiletry Bag with Accessories.
