My Treasured Chest - Baptism

This post is part of the "My Treasured Chest" series where I post about findings from my cedar chest. You can read about how it all began at the My Treasured Chest - The Beginning post.

On March 7th 2009 I was baptized, along with my two sons, at The Crossing church.  It was a spiritual moment in which I declared my belief in Jesus Christ as my Lord and saviour.

I have a few Certificates of Excellence for outstanding customer service performance during the short time I worked for SupraTelecom, an outbound call center.  I actually really liked the job, but it was shortlived because the company ended up being outsourced.

Opinion Outpost - Voice Your Opinion and Get Rewards

This post contains a referral link.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Top 10 Reasons to try Opinion Outpost today:

They are part of Survey Sampling International, a well-established global research group. This means quality surveys from quality companies.

Last year, their company sent out 29+ million surveys (a whole lot of opportunities).

They are one of the few companies that offer desktop (laptop), mobile, land-line phone, and tablet surveys. They can reach you where you want them to.

They have much lower "cash out" requirements that most survey companies.

10 points equals $1.00 U.S. dollar. You can cash out when you get 50 points for a $5.00 Amazon card, or 100 points for a $10.00 Paypal payment.

If you start now, and wait until Christmas time to cash out, you'll have a nice "nest egg" for holiday shopping.

They work with the top consumer brands and retailers, so there's a chance you could get invited to be part of a custom panel or community, offering easier and more frequent opportunities to earn rewards.

If you are accepted (and accurately fill out your profile), you will find it easier to qualify for future surveys.

Even when you don't qualify for a survey, they will enter you in their yearly sweepstakes (which could be even better)!

Opinion Outpost does NOT sell any of your personal information, nor do they every try to sell you a product. They only want your opinion.

Description: Opinion Outpost conducts surveys because businesses, governments, public bodies, and similar organizations are interested in the views and attitudes of the people who use their products and services. The more they know about what customers and citizens think, the easier it is for them to improve and adapt what they supply. Take Surveys to give your opinion and shape the future.

Rewards include get cash, Amazon gift cards, game points, donations to your favorite charities, and more. Everyone is also automatically entered to a $10,000 sweepstakes by joining and taking surveys.  The minimum cash out for Paypal is $10 and only $5 for Amazon gift cards.

My Treasured Chest - 8th Grade Yearbook

This post is part of the "My Treasured Chest" series where I post about findings from my cedar chest. You can read about how it all began at the My Treasured Chest - The Beginning post.

I've kept every yearbook of every school year from kindergarten to my senior year.  This one is from 8th grade.  It shouldn't be too hard to pick out which one is me, considering all the rest shown are guys.  I was sporting a hot pink and black scarf to complement my sky-high bangs.  Not to mention that the sides of my hair were so far out there I could've taken flight at any moment.  The boy pictured next to me was my first bow-chicka-wow-wow (i.e. virgin heister).

I was so super cool to have gotten so many autographs.  Gotta love that my mom even signed it!  There's even a warning at the top of the page from one friend that "if anyone writes on this page, you will die".  There's some strong words.....that no one paid any mind to.

Do you still have any of your yearbooks of yesteryear?  Were you as deranged about collecting classmate signatures as I was?

To achieve the necessary length and volume for this look, attach the Hairdo by Hairdo by HairUWear ($49: to your own hair. Braid off the ponytail and secure it with a ponytail holder. Do You Give A Cup? - #GiveACup

Peet’s is giving away new Single Cups.  You decide who gets them in this social sampling experiment.  Here’s how it works:  Each week, go to Do You Give A Cup and vote on a topic. The topics are fun, current and sometimes a bit quirky. Your votes determine where they host sampling events each week.

This week's topic is zombies, a monstrous breed that's risen in popularity.  What's your take on creatures of the undead?  Do you give a cup (fan of the slow-walking, flesh-eating creatures) or do you not give a cup (rather see them stay in the grave)?  I'm not a zombie fanatic but I find them to be interesting beings.

Give a Cup about kale? Maybe Peet's will show up at a farmer’s market. Don’t give a cup about kale? See you at the chocolate store down the street. It’s up to you and the rest of America to decide where Peet's goes so vote, share, and participate in their social sampling experiment!

Wordful Wednesday - Track & Field National Qualifiers

Logan competed at University City High School in St. Louis over the weekend for Track & Field district qualifiers.  He competed in four events and placed third in two of them.  He received two bronze medals and has qualified to compete in nationals late July in Detroit, Michigan.

One of the events Logan placed in was the 3000, which equals seven laps around the track.  That's six more than I could do.

He also placed in the relay with three other team members.  Each track member had to run twice around the track and then pass a baton on to another team member.

We weren't there on Saturday when it happened but according to a news article one kid got struck by lightning Saturday afternoon when he was crossing the finish line.  Sunday the heat was unbearable and runners were collapsing as soon as they crossed the finish line.  I give each kid huge kudos for running and giving it their all, depsite the heat and storm conditions.

One thing that really impressed me at this particular track meet is that everyone cheered for each child, regardless of their place in the race.  It didn't matter if they finished first or placed dead last, spectators cheered each child on until they crossed the finish line.  The enthusiasm was contagious.

I'm super proud of Logan and his accomplishments.  He's a very focused and driven teen who gives it his all.

Hanging Out At The Hilton

Over the weekend Logan participated in Track & Field district qualifiers to advance to nationals.  The meet was in St. Louis so we stayed the night at Doubletree by Hilton in Chesterfield about fifteen minutes away.

To say that the hotel is worth the expense is an understatement.  From the time we walked in to the time we walked out, we felt like our needs were met and we were treated with professionalism.  The hotel itself boasts fifteen indoor and outdoor tennis courts along with a fitness center, jogging track, indoor pool and outdoor pool.

The hotel we stayed at is located in a secluded area.  There's no businesses or attractions within walking distance.  Because we had some time to kill before checking in we visited the Chesterfield Mall which is a short driving distance.  It has almost every store you'd expect at a mall but it didn't impress me much.  Shopping really isn't my forte so one time around the place window shopping was good enough for me.

Once we got to the hotel, they were kind enough to let us check in early.  They were able to get a room ready for us an hour and a half before regular check-in time.  We were given a tour of the grounds by one of the employees and was very impressed with all it had to offer.  Our room was located on the tenth floor.

The lobby and bar area had very spacious seating.  Even though the hotel was booked, I didn't feel like I was intruding on anyone and I didn't feel like other people were breathing down my neck.  Ample seating allowed for groups to be in their own cliques.
Logan and Adam were quite impressed with the decor and everything that was available to do.

Jason ordered one drink from the hotel bar and I tried a Screwdriver.  Although my drink was a little on the high side, there was no shortage of vodka in it.  Enough so that I couldn't finish the drink.

Upon check-in we all received free freshly baked chocolate chip walnut cookies.  Adam felt like king of the mountain eating a cookie in bed.

To be honest, we hung out a lot in the hotel room.  It was nice to relax, watch TV, and giggle like little schoolgirls over obnoxious jokes.

Adam got some time in at the indoor pool.  He didn't get to swim in the outdoor pool because it had rained quite a bit earlier that day.

The view from our window taunted us with the outdoor pool we didn't get to swim in.

Somewhere in this pile of pillows is Logan.

For supper we ordered Papa John's pizza and had it delivered to our room.

The fitness center had plenty of equipment for several people to get their workouts.

The only major downside to the hotel was that it didn't offer continental breakfast.  And for the food they did have, they wanted to charge an arm and a leg.

Even though the room was luxurious and the hotel was hospitable, my favorite part was bonding with the boys.

Hollywood Or Bust - Book Review

I received book for review.  The opinions within these posts are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Synopsis:

Here is a unique perspective of what it is like to live and work where stars are born and movies are. In over five hundred quips, quotes, and off-the-cuff remarks, actors, directors, writers, and others involved in the business talk about themselves, their lives, their fame, their careers, each other, and the town itself. Their observations, on one hand, are caustic, critical, and cynical, but they are also eye opening, amusing, inspiring, and in some cases, even endearing. Be prepared to be surprised. To name a few of the famous names quoted in the collection, there is Ben Affleck, Woody Allen, Alan Arkin, David Arquette, Alec Baldwin, Ellen Barkin, Kathy Bates, Jack Black, Nicholas Cage, James Cagney, Jim Carrey, Jackie Chan, Charlie Chaplin, George Clooney, Kevin Costner, Daniel Craig, Russell Crowe... And those are only some of the A,B,Cs. Hollywood or Bust was a winner at the 2013 Beach Book Festival.

My Review:

If you are a fan of celebrities or enjoy reading quotes, then Hollywood or Bust is the book for you.  It features over five hundred quotes, quips and remarks from famous celebrities.  You'll read what they've had to say about entertainment, fame, getting into the field, their fans, and more.  Some of the quotes are bawdy but most of them are quite interesting.  This book is a fun distraction that gives you some insight into how stars feel.

Confirmed: I Can Plan A Getaway At Moment's Notice

In just a few short hours me, the two teenage boys and Jason will be off to St. Louis.  It's one of the most impromptu trips I've ever planned.

Logan belongs to the city's Track & Field team and is competing this weekend for nationals in St. Louis.  I knew that some time ago.  What I didn't know is that he reeeaaaally wanted me to go.  It wasn't even for the reason that I didn't want to go in the first place but I didn't know how I'd be able to afford the trip, get a hotel booked, and get off work.  After a lot of praying, finagling, and budgeting I was able to get the trip planned in three short days.

It's not a big whirlwind vacation but we're excited to do something different from the norm and watch Logan compete at what he does best.  Watch out St. Louis, here we come!
