I Got Crafty! - Graduation Centerpiece

I'm not typically a crafty person.  My mother's the one who sews, whips things up, bakes, and crafts everything.  My talents don't include much of that.  However, I decided to give it a gander when I noticed a smiliar project made by Alexis at Running Away? I'll Help You Pack.  (If you ever need cooking or crafting inspiration, check out her blog.  She's got mad skills).  Although what she created wasn't exactly what I made or even for the same event, she got me in gear to try something similar.
I'm having a graduation party for Allyson and Adam this Saturday and decorated up a couple centerpieces.  Logan will be missing out because he'll be competing in a track event.  Everything I purchased was from the Dollar Tree.  For two centerpieces, I purchased two round, straight vases and six packages of pencils that had twelve in each one.  I also purchased a package of sparkly graduation hat cutouts.

A glue gun and glue sticks are needed for this project, as well as newspaper to keep the area clean.  Lay the vase down on one side to glue the pencils.  It's much easier to have the vase laid down rather than stood up to adhere the pencils.  Dab some hot glue alongside the length of a pencil and adhere it to the vase.  Repeat until the vase is entirely covered with pencils.  Attach cutouts with hot glue onto a section of the pencils.

On the day of the graduation party I will be inserting candy into each vase for guests to grab and eat. Adam and Allyson will then be able to keep the vases as graduation party souvenirs.
