5 or 6.

I will watch age appropriate songs and videos with my 3 year old on Youtube or Netflix. I think there are many safe and educational sites out there, but as a parent I need to provide proper supervision until my kids are mature enough to manage their Internet use appropriately and safely.

With parental supervision 3 or 4 years old.

Rebecca O said...

It really depends. I let my son use my iPad, but not the Internet. He is 6. I think that with supervision, around age 8.

I think around 5 on educational sites with me beside him.

I think it depends on what you are using the internet for, if you are doing some educational activities then 4 or 5 if surfing maybe 8 or 9

Supervised, around 3 for educational purposes.

as early as possible with supervision. there are so many kid games on the internet right now.

Urd-chan said...

It depends on the maturity of the child, and it should be done with adult supervision. My daughters would have had no problems doing some on-line activities as young as 3-4 years old, but I know other children who would have been best to wait until they were a bit older.

Amy Lynn said...

For learning and games, 4 or 5. Social media, I would go with a little older and with supervision.

April said...

my son started using the net in preschool, he'd use abcmouse.org and pbskids

Honestly, I'd think around 10 to 12 with supervision. Any younger then that I really don't think they'd understand what the internet was about.

6 or 7 with constant supervision

When the school projects start coming, and depending on the age with supervision

Since the world is so computerized, I think 5 but certainly not alone. I think they should be constantly monitored and taught internet safety.

Sue2Sueper said...

I think they can start as soon as they can play with a mouse.

As long as parents are there constantly, let them play.

degood said...

Depending on the child, I can see it being appropriate to play on educational website at age 3 or 4 but unsupervised internet access is probably more like 9 or 10.

Anita Yancey said...

I think 10 with parental supervision. I think most kids are starting a little to early these days.

Kellie Conklin said...

I think 9 with supervision and limited site access however as a teacher I know that we start as early as first grade having students on the internet..yikes!

Around 4 or 5 with supervision

Leslie Galloway said...

I think around 4 or 5 they can use it with the parent's supervision. They're going to use it once they get into school anyway, so you might as well start teaching them beforehand.

It would be okay for them to begin using it as soon as they are able to use the computer since it varies from child to child and also with adult supervision and limited access.

It depends on the definition of using the internet. The school puts first graders on the internet for school activities and games. Our three year old grandson knows how to log on and go to his favorite activity site. All our computers are locked with parental controls to limit access and allow monitoring of activity for any user without an override code. Our 16 year old just got access to social media, still monitored.

Niclan80 said...

I think around 4 or 5 years of age is appropriate to start using the internet with direct adult supervision.
