Carrie - Blu-ray/DVD Review

I received product for review. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services. Your opinions and results may differ.

DVD Synopsis:

Chloë Grace Moretz and Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore star in this exhilarating reimagining of Stephen King's iconic best seller. After merciless taunting from classmates and abuse at the hand of her religious fanatic mother (Moore), Carrie's (Mortez) anger - and her telekinetic powers - are unleashed. And when a prom prank goes horribly wrong, events spiral out of control until the terrifying conclusion of this powerful, pulse-quickening horror story.

My Review:

Although I have never read Stephen King's novel Carrie, I have watched the original 70s movie several times. If you've watched the original movie, then this newer version won't be much of a surprise to you. Much of the storyline between the two is similar. This new Carrie release, which became available on DVD and Blu-ray January 14, is an updated modern version.

Carrie tells the story of a high school girl whose religious fanatic mother has kept her sheltered. Carrie attends school as the awkward outsider. After a particular traumatic experience for Carrie, a high school bullying stunt goes viral. The mean girl of the bullying bunch becomes irate when she's supsended from prom for her stunt. Another girl involved feels sorry for Carrie so she has her boyfriend go to prom with Carrie instead of her. All is well, until the mean girl pulls an even more horrific prank during prom. It's then that Carrie unleashes the beast with her telekenetic powers.

Although this remake is quite similar to the original, I still felt it held the horror factor and the special effects were more dramatic. The one who really stole the show was Julianne Moore who plays Carrie's mother in the movie. Her fanatical ways will make you glad you didn't have a mother like her!

I tend to be skeptical about most remakes but this one sounds alright.

I remember back in the day how the original creeped me out, but I would still watch this just to see how they did it.
