Book Synopsis:

Discovery Girls’ Guide to Growing Up gives girls reliable facts, clear explanations, and helpful tips about what’s going on inside their bodies and what to expect next… all written in a fun and easy-to-understand way. She’ll also learn how to handle her emotions, have strong self-esteem, and love her body so she’ll be confident, empowered, and ready for all the challenges of puberty. With less wondering and worrying about what’s happening to her body, she’ll have more time to enjoy the changes. Thanks to tens of thousands of girls who were brave enough to share their stories about pimples, periods, bras, body image, emotions, and more in this book, your special girl will know she is not alone.

My Review:

I have four girls in my home so I'm not lost on puberty or "changes". I've been down the road with three of them. However, each kid has been different to how they react to that time in their life. The 11 year-old doesn't like to discuss body issues openly. The Discovery Girls Guide to Growing Up is a wonderful resource for her to learn what she needs to know during this time in her life.

Several issues are discussed in the book, including periods, emotions, skin care and more. At 152 pages, this book talks to tweens and teens in a way they can understand and relate to. Quizzes, quotes, real-life stories, and examples are included. For those who are easily unsettled, they'll want to be aware that there are diagrams of vaginas. Be that as it may, I think the diagrams are helpful in teaching a girl about her body and how it works in the nether regions. The pages of the book are thick and covered with colorful illustrations. I've read the book and think it's full of valuable information. Emma has also read it and says it's helped answer questions she's had.
