FINALLY, We Can Get Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Derby Programming

I posted just a few days ago that roller derby isn't exempt from the drama of this world. It was starting to look like World War III up in DRDC.

Because apparently not everyone on our team knows how to handle things like big girls, we enlisted the help of a Mediator/Lawyer. I was a little leery at first because how bias can someone be when they're married to a girl on the team?!!

After everyone was required to fill out a 21 question survey that was more time-consuming than any high school test I've ever taken, a mediation took place on Tuesday. Accusations were flown across the room; luckily, bodies were not. The mediation lasted four flippin hours!.

Wednesday night I attended a side meeting at a gal's house for some members to discuss what our plan of action would be. It was then that I decided I was going to make my own decision Thursday, regardless of whether things were resolved or not. I was exhausted from stressing out over it all. I used to camp almost every weekend at a local campground for five years straight. I left there because of the drama and sure wasn't going to be somewhere else that kept me stuck in it.

Thursday we all gathered again to listed to the Mediator's proposal and vote on it. We had to vote on it in its entirety or not at all. There was no picking or choosing. The proposal was unanimously voted in agreement.

The ruling on my brother being expelled as coach was overturned. He's now back on the team. Two other players were also benched for a couple home and away bouts due to lack of leadership. Other policies and rules I won't bore you with were also put in place.

The Mediator turned out to be the best thing for us. He was fair and unbias, and you could see the tension leave the room once it was all said and done. We have a home bout next weekend and now we can concentrate on skills and drills to defeat the opposing team instead of defeating each other.

What an ordeal. Thank god the mediator was able to help.
