Mom's Cancer Remission Celebration

My mother is nothing short of a living miracle.  She was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and fought quite the battle.  It got to the point that doctors were ready to call in hospice.  And now, here she is, alive and sorta well, with the cancer in remission.

With a donation from the local college basketball team through their Creating Memories program, mom was able to celebrate her remission with a family dinner at the Senior Center.  About 45 people were in attendance to honor mom and her courageous fight.  A bounce house was set up for the kids and a large meal was feasted on by all.

Although they live less than two hours away, mom doesn't get to see her brothers much.  It was a blessing to have B.J. and Curt come down for the festivities.

The menu consisted of pulled pork, potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob and cupcakes.

A door prize drawing was held both for the kids and the adults.  Both were baskets created by my sister, made up of Scentsy products.

The kids were also treated to several games of Bingo and the winners were given prizes.

Other than it being a wonderful day of camaraderie, my favorite part was when my uncle brought out his acoustic guitar and played tunes for the audience.  He has a natural raw talent and a knack for bluegrass/folk music.  I could've sat and listened to him for hours.

My mom is still weak and requires a lot of care, but she's come back from some dark days and she's definitely a fighter.  I was honored to take part in her life celebration.
