Willows of Fate - Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Book Synopsis:

All her life, Desdemona has seen things others haven’t. Dragons, knights, dwarves, kids with three eyes. Heeding her mother’s advice, she keeps silent about this and struggles through life, pretending everything is normal. At her mother’s death, Desdemona returns to a home haunted with memories but she is determined to not be shaken from what little normalcy she has. However, when her brother is murdered and she uncovers a family secret, Desdemona realizes that there is more to what she sees. Perhaps a whole other world, one that’s willing to kill to have her as its own.

My Review:

The first reason I was drawn into this book was its cover.  It has an ethereal feel to it, which led me to wonder what kind of story it would hold.

Willows of Fate is the first book in The Lands of Sun and Stone series.  It tells of a gal named Desdemona who has been away from home for several years due to traumatic events in her past.  She is forced to return home after learning of her mother's illness.  Once she is back home, things spiral out of control.  Her brother is killed, an aunt dies in an institution, and the "visions" she's seen since a child are now talking to her.  Once Desdemona realizes she's not crazy and the things she's seeing are real, she's transported to another world.  She learns that she is special with a predestined fate and faces unearthly happenings in The Land of Sun.

I would classify Willows of Fate as a fantasy novel.  The main character, Desdemona, is engaging and relatable.  I would have liked a little more character development with the exotic individuals she comes across but, otherwise, it was a fascinating story.  I'm keen on reading the other books in the series.
