Random Tuesday Thoughts - Good Food and Muddy Running

Whoo hoo!  It's another edition of Random Tuesday Thoughts, hosted by Stacy Uncorked.  If you'd like to link up, head over to her site and become a part of the awesomeness.

Me and Jason

Last Friday me and Jason got together with my oldest daughter and a couple of my co-workers for a road trip to Scarefest in St. Louis.  We paid a good amount of money to go in a couple of large-scale haunted houses.

Becky, Sarah, and Shelby

The haunted houses themselves left much to be desired.  I'll talk more about that tomorrow.  The Darkness was over-the-top amazing with their props and animatronics, but the scare factor wasn't there.  The Abyss was a huge letdown.  The promo video was nothing like the real deal.

steamed broccoli, hush puppies, hashbrown casserole, and catfish nuggets

Although I have no desire to visit Scarefest again, the road trip itself was fun.  It was Jason and the four sister wives.  We stopped by Cracker Barrel for some delicious food.  It had been over ten years since my last Cracker Barrel visit.  It was ten years too long.  I ate everything on my plate.  Not a morsel left.  #NomNom

Yesterday would have been my dad's birthday.  I won't lie and say that I think about him every single day.  I try not to.  Cause if I did, I'd just be sad.  I do miss him though and sometimes wonder how it would have all turned out with him still around.  He died ten years ago in March.

Dad would have been 81 years old if he was still alive and kickin'.  Him and my mom are sixteen years apart.  Talk about living it up in Cougar Town!

Logan waiting to hear the results of qualifiers for State

Logan and the rest of the Cross Country Team qualified for state!  They'll be going to State this Saturday.  It's the first time in 12 years for the boys and the first time in 30 years for the girls to get to State.  So, as you can imagine, it's a pretty big deal.

Last weekend they ran in miles of rain and mud.  It was like taking on quicksand.  Not exactly the best conditions to run, but definitely worth it so qualify for State.
----------------------------------
Speaking of running, I created my Christmas cards for this year.  On the top is Logan with his game face and on the bottom is Jason trying to recreate it.  Because that's the kind of awesome mom I am!

The tagline for our cards is "Run, Rudolph, Run...Christmas is Coming"
-------------------------------------
I go in for my ear surgery Wednesday morning.  It was scheduled for last week but something came up with the doc.  So, tomorrow it is.  It's not my first rodeo; I've had several ear surgeries.  I'm just ready for it to be done and over with.
-----------------------------------

my niece, Gia
Not sure what she dressed up as.......We'll go with cute.

Halloween was kinda lame-o.  I had no more than ten trick-or-treaters stop by.  Once I realized that passing out candy was a flop, we all piled up in my Trailblazer and checked out one of the local haunted houses.  It didn't do much for me, but it was a lot closer than St. Louis and didn't cost as much.

Robert, Jacob, and Adam dressed up for Halloween.  Take note of the Christmas Elf hat!

How was your Halloween?  Did you go through any haunted houses this year?  What's your randomness for the week?

I'm sorry the houses turned out not to be scary :(. I'm a scary cat so I'd probably had peed my pants just driving up to them .. lol

It really sounded like all in all you had a good week of randomness. You can have all the haunted houses for yourself.. not a fan. We had zero treaters (live in the country).

Poor Logan--I can imagine he is JUST THRILLED with your Christmas card creation :)
Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!
We don't do haunted houses anymore because they are SO EXPENSIVE and we usually don't have a babysitter anyway. The kids dressed up for Halloween and trick or treated around our neighborhood, then we handed out candy and played board games. Pretty quiet for a holiday, but we all really enjoyed it.
My dad's birthday would have been this month, too. He was 59 when we lost him in 2009. Hard to believe it has been that long. Losing a parent is tough stuff, for sure.

There was this house in my neighbourhood that always did a BIG haunted house on their property. It was Awesome!! People from around the area would drive to our street to got through the haunted house and then stay and trick or treat in the neighbourhood. So we always had TONS of kids come to the house. I would easily go through 4 or 5 boxes of 95 mini chocolate bars, a box of chips, and maybe some other stuff. This year they didn't do the haunted house, and not only did we miss that fun: we didn't have half the amount of kids either. So....I got candy leftover in spades. Thankfully chocolate freezes well.

We went through 4 haunted houses this year. 3 were pretty good, but the biggest one that everyone goes to was a flop. We won't be going back to that one next year.

Congrats on the state position for Cross Country!
