Finding Noah - #FINDINGNOAH #FLYBY Review and Giveaway

I received advanced screening of film.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

For over 2,000 years, man has been searching for the final resting place of Noah's Ark.  Though there have been many attempts, few have been able to fully explore the one place specifically noted in the Bible: Mount Ararat.  Located in Eastern Turkey, Agri Dagh or "The Painful Mountain" is the tallest mountain in the region and lies in the very center of a centuries old, geo-politically unstable hot spot.  With constant threats of deadly rock slides, hidden crevasses, and glacial ice falls, the Kurdish Rebel held mountain poses great risk to any explorer, let alone those performing a thorough scientific investigation.

Join director/producer Brent Baum and the FINDING NOAH film crew as they follow an expedition of intrepid explorers on a perilous trek up to Mt. Ararat's desolate summit.  There, using state of the art technology and real-time satellite imagery, this team of archeologists, scientists and professional mountaineers will begin a grid work of exploration unlike any before, hoping to finally resolve the age-old question:  did Noah and his Ark actually exist?

Shot in never-before filmed locations in the harshest of conditions, this unprecedented feature-length documentary shows just how far men are willing to go to discover the truth.  Narrated by Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise, FINDING NOAH is more than a quest for answers, it is a testament of the human spirit, where belief and the need for exploration transcend risk and limitation.

Release Date in Theaters (ONE NIGHT ONLY): October 8th
My Review:

The story of Noah's Ark in the Bible tells of a man named Noah who was ordered by God to build a great ark and fill it with his family and animals.  God was angry at the human race because of their ethical behavior and created a Great Flood.  The only people and animals that remained were the ones from Noah's Ark.

Finding Noah is a documentary, mixed with historical references, that that tells of a group who go on an expedition to find evidence of the famed boat.

Noah's Ark is said to be located on Mount Ararat.  The trek just to get up Mount Ararat is a feat in and of itself due to treacherous roads and controlling militant.  The group of trekkers risk life and limb to find evidence of Noah's Ark.

Finding Noah starts off with the history of Noah's Ark and Mount Ararat, and tells of the risks involved in the trek.  It goes into conflict of science and religion, and gives various beliefs of what accounts of Noah's Ark are valid and true.  The film also gives accounts of explorers who claimed to have found Noah's Ark, or even pieces of it.  Finding Noah goes back and forth between footage of the expeditions and timeline history and speculations.  There's not a lot of climax in the film, but it's interesting to see what risks the explorers go through on their expeditions, and it's interesting to hear people's varying accounts and theories.

I'm War Room Ready

After having viewed War Room in August, I came up with a plan to create my own war room.  Almost a month later, I've finished.

For those who haven't seen the movie, a war room is a space or room created specifically for quiet time with God and in prayer.  It's to be a place free from distractions.

Jesus Calling devotional, NKJV Bible, and prayer request journal

I have an area space upstairs that really has no rhyme or reason.  I was using it to store items that have no where else to go.  It took me some time, but I finally got a computer desk cleared and set it up with my war room supplies.

The Crisis of Today is the Joke of Tomorrow ; Not a Bible verse, but true nonetheless

Now that my war room space is ready, it is my goal to go there at some point every day and take time to reflect, read, and pray.

Older Hymns hanging on a corkboard

My War Room isn't overly great or grand, but it's my special space to get in tune with God.  I used stuff I already had on hand or purchased from Salvation Army thrift store.

Have you watched War Room in theater?  What space or room in your home could be used as a personal war room?

Slammers - Organic Snacks Review and Giveaway

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Halloween is coming up, and it's a favorite holiday among kids.  For one night, kids get to be whoever they want and stay out late.  Halloween is also the first in a series of fall and winter holidays dedicated to decadent treats and unhealthy foods.  Although that's okay in moderation, there are options available that are healthier and fun at the same time.
Slammers Snacks are tasty, greek yogurt snacks designed to fuel kids with organic fruits and vegetables.  They are a healthy alternative to sugar-laden candies and other franken-foods that pop up around this time of year.  Each flavor introduces kids to fruits such as mangos, acai, yumberries, kiwis, and pomegranates, and serves as a great source of essential vitamins.  Two flavors of Slammers Snacks introduced this year also come packed with seven grams of protein.
Niece, Gia, enjoying Slammers Snacks

Slammers come in four squeezable pouches per box.  Some kids balk at fruits and veggies, but the packaging of Slammers is genius enough that kids want to try them.  The pouches have kid-friendly designs, with neat graphics on the front and pictures of the fruits and veggies on the back.  The way they work is that the caps twist off and the kids eat right out of the pouch.  I liken Slammers to having the same consistency of applesauce.

back side of packaging shows what ingredients are inside

The two flavors of Slammers we tried were a big hit at my house.  The Pomegranate Grape Crush variety contains coconut, pomegranate, apple, grape, banana, and purple carrot.  It's an unlikely combination but actually tastes good.  The Awesome variety beets, acai berries, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and amaranth.  I'd never heard of amaranth before, but did some research and learned that it has high nutritional value and has remarkable protein content.  All of the ingredients in Slammers come from certified organic farms and contain no added sugar or artificial ingredients.  I think Slammers are a clever way to get kids to eat the good stuff.

One person will win a case of Slammers in flavor of choice.

The Force Awakens at JCPenney‏ - Star Wars Apparel Review

We are not die-hards but my household is excited to view Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it comes out to theaters December 18th.  JCPenney has some exciting news for Star Wars fans of all levels.  In stores across the country, and online, all-new Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise will be available in celebration of the movie’s upcoming theatrical release.  An array of apparel, accessories and bedding from the movie are now available.

While stocking up on gear, customers also have the opportunity to pose for out-of-this-world pictures with life-size cut outs of Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and Stormtrooper.

I received a couple shirt designs from the JCPenny apparel line.  Shelby and I both have the Star Wars® Short-Sleeve Boyfriend T-Shirt.  It is blue in color featuring a depiction of the Millenium Falcon.  My shirt feels comfortable and has a snug fit.

Adam and Jason sport their Star Wars affection with shirts that detail the Stormtroopers.  They, too, like the fit and comfort of their tees.

Unfortunately, the JCPenney that was in our area for several years recently closed down.  Fortunately, though, I can shop JCPenney online and get all sorts of merchandise in anticipation of the newest movie being released.  Go check out what JCPenney has to offer, and May the Force Be With You!

Marbled Cookie Brownie Now Available at Domino's - Review

I received products for review from Domino's.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
I'm a fanatic for pizza and Domino's is one of my favorite pizza chains.  And even more so since I was able to personally visit Domino's headquarters in October of last year.  The company is serious about its food and takes great strides in being one of the best.  Of all the times I've ordered, I've only had one negative experience.

Our favorite pizza from Domino's is the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza.  Oh boy, is it amazingly delicious!

Sometimes, what a person wants is a good dessert to finish off their meal.  Domino's recently came out with a new Marbled Cookie Brownie as part of their dessert line, and it fits well with their offerings.
Domino’s is bringing chocolate chunk cookie lovers and fudge brownie fans together. The new Marbled Cookie Brownie is an irresistibly warm and gooey dessert they can both enjoy.  The   Marbled Cookie Brownie is baked in the oven and cut into nine pieces, making it the perfect shareable dessert for any occasion. Marbled Cookie Brownie is Domino’s first new dessert since the launch of Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes in 2009.  It is available as part of Domino's $5.99 mix and match deal.

The Marbled Cookie Brownie didn't last long in my house.  It arrived already cut up in squares and was gone quite quickly.  The fudge brownie pieces with warm milk chocolate chunks was a satisfying ending to our meal.

What's your favorite food to order from Domino's?  Will you be ordering the new Marbled Cookie Brownie?

I'm Hosting An October Scentsy Party - Giveaway

I received no product or compensation for this post.  This post is in partnership with an Idependent Consultant.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Just a little more than a year ago, my sister became an Independent Consultant for Scentsy.  I'd heard of the company before, but didn't know much about it.  To help her get started in her new venture, I was one of the first to host a party.  Since then and even now, I'm sold on Scentsy.

I have three Scentsy warmers in my home and several of the wax melts.  I'm also stocked up on Scentsy body sprays and lotions.  A short time ago, Scentsy came out with their Fall/Winter catalog.  I'm loving the new merchandise they have to offer and will be hosting another in-home party October 14th.
One of the three Scentsy warmers I have in my home

For those not in the know, Scentsy Fragrance is a direct selling company and international leader in fragrance, offering a variety of home and personal fragrance products.  Their scented, wickless candles heated in decorative ceramic warmers provides a better alternative to burning wicked candles. Scentsy Fragrance also offers the Scentsy Buddy, plush animals with a fragrant Scent Pak inside, and Layers by Scentsy, a personalized fragrance experience comprised of many body and laundry care products.

A new product out for the Fall/Winter line is the Scentsy Diffuser.  It is an ultrasonic nebulizing diffuser that uses cold-mist technology to disperse fragrance.  The diffusers come with a limited lifetime warranty and uses an ultrasonic nebulizer to disperse fragrance from oils.  It is the only diffuser on the market to offer interchangeable decorative shades to complement any d├ęcor, and it offers 16 different light modes.

As for the Scentsy Bars, Scentsy uses a custom, high-quality paraffin wax blend designed to give you long-lasting fragrance.  Scentsy bars are safer than wicked candles because no flame is required for the wax to melt and release fragrance.  There is no flame, smoke, soot, or lead.

Scentsy offers lots of cute stuff for the kids too.  New to their line are the Bath Smoothies, Scrubby Buddies, and Buddy Clips.  The company also keeps men in mind with face balm and shave soap.
My sister knows how to throw a party and her job will be so much easier because she's promoting quality products that I like.
If you would like to place a Scentsy order, you may do so through my sister's site.  The products will be shipped directly to you.  And, if you place an order before October 14th, it will be credited towards my party.  Christmas will be here before you know it, and Scentsy merchandise makes for a great gift.  Or, go ahead and buy something for yourself.  You deserve it!

If A Place Doesn't Know Date and Time, I Don't Want Their Food

I don't frequent McDonald's all day, every day.  It's not my first choice for fast food.  But, once in a while, a McDouble and fries are just what the doctor I ordered.  However, I have to question the state of their method when they can't even tell time.

For the past several days, one of the two McDonald's in my town has been billboard blasting a promotion.  The first 25 cars in line after midnight on 09/25 (that's today!) were eligible to receive 52 free Big Macs.

#McAngry

Beings that I wanted in on the promotion, I took a break from work while my supervisor sat in for me.  I, along with a couple other cars, pulled over and waited until it was midnight on the dot.  Once it was "after midnight on 09/25" we pulled into the drive-thru lane.

When the first car pulled up and brought up the promotion, the employee explained that the big to-do wasn't on 9/25 and that it was instead tomorrow (meaning 09/26). They kept arguing that it wasn't after midnight on 9/25 as stated on the billboard. That car drove away rightly pissed.

I then drove up in the drive-thru and the server said "Hello. How can I help you?" I asked "So, did I hear it right that the date on the billboard is wrong?" Rather than give any explanation or answer at all, they turned out all the lights to the store and outside.  #OhNoYouDidn't

Once I gathered that I wasn't going to get an answer or explanation of any kind, I drove away.

It's not so much that I need 52 Big Macs.  Unless you're throwing a frat party, I'm not real sure why anyone would need that many McMeats at one time.  Then again, I was cuckoo enough to take a break from work to gather that many Big Macs.  (Although, I do believe that my co-workers and other personnel would've been forever in my favor if I would've came in toting a late night snackwich.)

I find it preposterous that McDonald's couldn't hold up to their end of the deal when the billboard,  which faces a very busy main street, gave the date and time of after midnight on 9/25.

If an employee or management wasn't smart enough to catch on to their mistake or even honor the promotion as it was advertised, then I don't want their food anyway.  The order would probably be messed up too.

A Reluctant Bride - Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Family Christian.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

She never wanted to marry. He hopes to make amends for past wrongs. Can love find a way to mend both of their hearts?

Sadie Schrock swore she would never marry. All of her other Amish friends could court and marry—she was content to manage the family business and eventually take it over when her parents are ready to retire. But all of that changes when a reckless driver kills both of her parents and seriously injures her younger sister. With mounting hospital bills adding to the pile of debt her parents left behind, Sadie is left with no choice: she must marry. And not just any man—the man who saw her at her weakest and walked away.

Aden knows what his brother did to Sadie years ago was inexcusable. And every day since that incident, Aden has lived with the guilt for not intervening sooner. When he is faced with the chance to protect Sadie once again, he can’t let her down—even if it means living with the scorn of the woman he loves for the rest of his life.

Working alongside Aden at the store, Sadie realizes he isn’t the same boy who once betrayed her. Just when Sadie starts to let her guard down and perhaps develop feelings for her new husband, several dangerous secrets are revealed. Now everything Sadie has worked so hard to protect is threatened, and she must find a way to save her family—and herself.

My Review:

One of my favorite genres is Amish romance but, at times, it seems the plots are very similar from book to book.  I was pleasantly pleased with how A Reluctant Bride created a romance, but with a twist.

A Reluctant Bride tells of an Amish maiden who, during her teenage years, was sexually assaulted by a male member of the Amish faction.  The male's brother knew that something terrible was happening but did nothing to help.  Because of that, Sadie becomes withdrawn and has no desire to court or become married.  She also harbors resentment for Sol and Aden, the two men who destroyed her trust.

Later in the years, Sadie's parents are killed in an accident and her sister is injured.  Sadie is left to take care of household and business expenses.  Because she does not receive the help she requests, Sadie is somewhat forced into a marriage with Aden.

Sadie is an unhappy wife and does what she can to ignore her new husband.  But, as time goes by, she realizes Aden has his own horrible family secrets and scars.  Through periods of distrust, troubles, and strife Sadie and Aden both grow to love each other and forgive others.

Although it is fiction, A Reluctant Bride shows that the Amish faction can have members who aren't always on the up and up.  It reveals that everyone of every breed can and will have conflict and struggles.  It also shows that some good can come of a crisis, and it's important to rely on others for healing.  It is a very well-written story.

Doing the Snack Thing with Welch's Fruit Snacks - Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
My kids, all teens and above, usually come straight to the pantry after school.  They're on the prowl for a snack, and I keep a variety on hand.  The same goes for when my nieces and nephews come over.  They know that aunt Terra's house is a place for delicious treats.

From time to time I purchase Welch's Fruit Snacks.  They're convenient pre-packaged snacks that can be taken right out of the box and eaten immediately.   They are fat-free, gluten-free, and preservative free.

They didn't last long, but I did have a couple boxes of Welch's Fruit Snacks in my pantry recently, with the flavors being Fruit Punch and Apple Orchard Medley.  It took less than a couple of days for my kids and the other young'uns to grab them all up.  Welch's Fruit Snacks come in ten packages to a box.  They're packed with delicious flavor and soft texture.

Freeride AUTOSEAL® Kids Water Bottle - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Rather than purchasing drinks at events, we prefer to take our own snacks and water bottles if possible.  Because my nieces and nephews stop by often, I keep a collection of water bottles at home that I fill up with water for refreshment.  I've been through my fair share of water bottles that leak or have lids that pop off easily, so I'm always happy when I find ones that are leak-proof and have secure lids.  Cool designs don't hurt either.
AVEX, a company known for its water bottles and thermal mugs, offered me the opportunity to review a Freeride AUTOSEAL Kids Water Bottle.  With two designs available, I received the charcoal one with the spider pattern.  This particular design of water bottle features a patented AUTOSEAL lid with press-to-drink button that automatically seals between sips to eliminate spills and leaks.  Yay for that!  Now I don't have to worry about young'uns making big messes.

The BPA-free plastic water bottle has a spout shield to protect against dirt and an ergonomic clip-on handle that attaches to backpacks and other gear.  I've had to help the younger ones with clipping the handle to their bag because it does take a bit of adult strength.  Although I don't own one myself, the water bottle is made to be top-rack dishwasher-safe.  The water bottle is composed of two pieces, the bottle and the lid.  What the kids really like about this water bottle is the glow-in-the-dark lid and graphics.  The light green colors on the bottle are what glow.  The Freeride AUTOSEAL Kids Water Bottle does a nifty job and the graphics are quite neat.

Do you tend to purchase drinks when you're out and about, or take water bottles for the kids to drink out of?

My Friend Teddy - Interactive Toy Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
My younger nieces think their aunt Terra is cool.  Especially when I introduce them to new toys.  Recently, they were able to play around with My Friend Teddy.  It definitely upped my coolness factor when they got to interact with My Friend Teddy.

My Friend Teddy is a teddy bear that interacts with users via Bluetooth with a special app.  Some of its fun features are being able to talk and interact with you, play games, share photos, and read stories.

Before interacting with My Friend Teddy, users first need to follow some instructions.  An Apple or Android device is needed for the bear to fully function.  Then you need to search for an download the "My Friend Teddy" app, which is free.  An adult needs to install three AA batteries in the slot located on its back.  The batteries are not included, and will need to be purchased separately.  For My Friend Teddy to work, the On/Off Switch needs to be in the ON position.  After those steps are completed, users can launch the app after syncing up with Bluetooth.  A microphone, speaker, and sensors are located internally.

An internet connection isn't required for all functions.  A lot of it can be done offline.  My Friend Teddy's interactive response time works best with a strong and moderately fast WiFi signal and updated smart device.  When our WiFi signal was weak, we noticed that Teddy was hard to understand or would break up in speech.  When the signal was strong, Teddy's words came out clearly.

My Friend Teddy can be personalized towards your child by answering questions on the app.  The more questions you answer, the more personalized the bear is to your child.  Other features include activities, story time, and photo albums.

I think there could be some minor improvements made for My Friend Teddy to be a top-star interactive toy but, for the most part, it is engaging and entertaining.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Rocket Ships and Family Dinners

Hip, hooray, it's Tuesday!  That means Random Tuesday Thoughts, hosted by Stacy Uncorked.  Go ahead and link up at her blog if you'd like to join along.

Friday Jason and I, along with Adam, joined up with over 500 other members of the church for a night of music and worship.  The One Concert was amazing, and it was so good to get together with fellow believers to sing and lift our hands in praise.
------------------------
Speaking of church, The Crossing is a multi-site church with nine campus locations.  Recently, they've started The Crossing Inside which provides live sermon feed to prisons.  This last Sunday, Jason and I worked alongside another couple to launch a pilot program for The Crossing Inside at a treatment addiction center.  Thirteen residents live at the center, and nine attended the first Crossing Inside there.  Our discipleship pastor was so impressed that he has requested we do it on a regular basis.  So, it seems, I will be spending my Sunday mornings at a treatment center helping with communion and prayer time.  I'm both nervous and excited about it.
-----------------------------
My mom with her puppy, Precious, at the family dinner.  Since my mom now lives with me, she doesn't get to see Precious as often.  It was a happy reunion.

Looks like our regular family dinners are back on track.  Another one was held this Sunday afternoon at my sister's house.  There was tons of food and good company.  Hope we can keep getting together often as a family.
--------------------------------------

Allyson has been kicking butt with her Clean Eating lifestyle.  She's been at it for a few months now and is in a much better stage of life.  I love seeing her so happy.

My husband noticed the other day that the shadow made by my patio umbrella in the dark resembles a "rocket ship".  Yeah, I'll leave it at that.

Happy RTT!

They Just Know: Animal Instincts - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Arbordale Publishing.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

How do some young animals know what to do and how to do it? Does someone teach a caterpillar what to eat? Who gives a baby shark swimming lessons? Sometimes young animals learn things from their parents, but other times… they just know! Explore animal instincts through engaging text and fanciful illustrations.

My Review:

Isn't it amazing how some critters and creatures do things by instinct?  For instance, a horn shark knows to stay in the shallow end until it can swim.  It wasn't taught that behavior; Rather, it already instinctively knows.  They Just Know: Animal Instincts tells of some animal and insect behavior that is done based on instinct.  The illustrations are done in an adorable tongue in cheek fashion.

The "For Creative Minds" section in the back of the book has a couple of lessons on Instinct versus Learned Behaviors.  It also has a matching exercise for children to match up young animals with their parents.  Also included is a study on metamorphosis.

They Just Know: Animal Instincts is a Fall 2015 book release by Arbordale Publishing.

Sounds of the Savanna - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Arbordale Publishing.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
From the first light of dawn until the sun sets at night, the savanna is alive with noise. A lion roars in the early morning, a young baboon shrieks to warn others of danger at noon, and a young mouse squeals at dusk. What are the animals saying and why? Animals communicate in many ways; explore the thriving African savanna as its inhabitants “talk” to one another throughout the course of a day.

My Review:

With beautiful illustrations of grassland animals, Sounds of the Savanna explores the different sounds that wildlife make.  For instance, elephants make high-pitched sounds when they sense danger, and zebras also create a loud, high-pitched alarm for the same reason.  This book helps young children understand the sounds of savanna creatures, and helps them identify what kind of animals live on a savanna.

The "For Creative Minds" section in the back of the book has a teaching on sound waves, demonstrates how to make sound vibrations, and talks about the different high, low pitches of animals.

Sounds of the Savanna is a Fall 2015 release from Arbordale Publishing.
