Friday night was the second annual Night to Shine, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. I was not able to take part last year, but am super glad I did this year.
Night to Shine is a prom for Special Needs teens and adults. It was held in 200 churches in eight countries.
Logan, myself, and Adam
Those with special needs were invited to attend and be treated like royalty. Our church had 300 guests, with added volunteers and Buddies.
Once guests arrived, they were paired up with a Buddy who would be their escort for the night. My buddy was Cara, a 50 year old female from a group home. Next they were presented with sashes, tiaras and corsages. Once that took place, they walked down a red carpet for a photo shoot and autographs. It came complete with screaming "paparazzi" and fans.

Once they walked down the red carpet, it was time for the festivities. The church auditorium and lobby was cleared out for a dance floor with DJ, shoe shine, hair and makeup station, photo booth, basketball, miniature golf, and sit-down supper. There was also limo ride service.
Supper was grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, and brownies. My son, Logan, helped with the event by doing Coat Check and Adam helped with putting sashes on the guys.

My buddy, Cara, met up with her boyfriend there and the two spent a lot of time together. John even drew Cara a Valentine's card.
I had an absolute blast and it was my honor to take part in such a special event. My only complaint is that it didn't last longer. Three hours wasn't enough. I'm ready for next year!
