stock photo - not my dog
My dog, Helen, gets fed at around noon every day. At 12:02 her food is gone. She goes after it like it's the last meal on earth. I'd be seriously surprised if any of it was properly chewed. I don't mind that Helen is quick and to the point, but I know it can't be good on her digestive system.
Helen was recently introduced to the Rock 'N Bowl, a dog food bowl that encourages natural canine behavior and slows down eating. It makes her work for her food.
The Rock 'N Bowl is very simple to use. You just pour your dog's food on top of the molded paw print. Some of the food will stay on top, while the rest will filter down to the bottom of the bowl. It is then the dog's job to "sing for their supper".
There are four access points at the bottom of the bowl where food will dispense. When the dog licks, paws at, or nudges the bowl, it tumbles back and forth. Rather than an ordinary dog dish, this bowl makes a dog take its time eating. It's like engaging in a strategic puzzle to get all the dog food pieces out.
With the Rock 'N Bowl, Helen has been more methodical and slower with her eating habits. The bowl also engages her and keeps her entertained. Because dog food drops out from the bottom of the bowl, I keep a plastic mat underneath so all the food stays on it rather than my floor. The bowl disassembles when you're ready to wash and clean it. It is made with sturdy material, so it won't be easily destroyed. Helen seems content with working for her food, rather than going at it all at once.
One person will win a Rock 'N Bowl.
