Young and Beardless - Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Tommy Nelson.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Quick Overview:

In Young and Beardless, John Luke Robertson of the Duck Dynasty family offers advice he has learned about becoming a man and shares his unique life experience about what it’s like to be raised as a Robertson. Young people will find wisdom and advice on subjects that really matter, what to let go of, and how to find purpose for your life.

My Review:

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know the Duck Dynasty celebrities. They're famous for the family-themed television show about duck calls, country living, and Christian beliefs. Although I'm not a devoted fan of Duck Dynasty, I've watched their shows from time to time and admire that they stand firm in their religious beliefs.

One of the newest books from the Duck Dynasty cast is Young and Beardless, written by John Luke Robertson.  He's known as the teenage son/grandson of the clan.

As much as I like good advice, I don't enjoy reading books on how to live my life if the book is riddled with scientific jargon and preaches in a pretentious manner. Thankfully, Young and Beardless doesn't play like that.

John Luke Robertson is wise beyond his years, but writes in a way that's relatable to teenagers.  He speaks of his life in front of the camera, and his devotion to family and God.  By the age of 19, he's already married and seems to have his life together.  John Luke gives practical advice to young adults on how to manage stressors, stand strong in faith, and be of Godly character.  He also gives references to books and other material that have helped him in his upbringing.  I'm very comfortable with letting my two teen boys read this book.  Logan is already halfway through it, and this book has given me the opportunity to speak to Logan about what he's taken away from it so far.

If you are not familiar with the Duck Dynasty cast, you may not associate with the personal stories that involve the famous family because the tales are told from the family's experiences. Despite that, Young and Beardless is wonderful material to read and apply to life.

I've never watched the show - I did watch Sadie compete on Dancing With The Stars, so I guess that should count for something!
