working in the garage, getting the mower ready
Adam and Jason have been bustin' their tail ends the past couple of weeks, getting Adam's mower ready for the Garden Tractor Pull at the county fair.
Jason has a mower too but sacrificed a lot of his parts and time so Adam could participate.
We headed to the fair on a hot summer's day and spent seven hours so Adam could pull twice. And it was all worth it to see the cheesy, Scooby-Doo grin on his face. I think he may have found his niche.
It was Adam's first time ever pullin' and he was the underdog. Most of the guys (and even young'uns) have been doing it for a while. And I didn't know you could dump so much moolah in a garden mower, until I saw some of the ones there.
I will say this, though. I was impressed with the number of veterans who came up to Adam and gave tips and pointers. It wasn't a "dog eat dog" competition.
Adam pulled two classes - the 1000 lb. and the 1050 lb. - in the competition. He placed second in both, and received ribbons.
Adam is now an official member of the Heartland Garden Tractor Pullers Association. I foresee more Pulls in his near future.
