front view of the lodge
Jason and I celebrated our 14 year wedding anniversary on Tuesday. And we couldn't have stayed at a better place than Harpole's Heartland Lodge. Being there definitely made our anniversary very memorable. I can't say enough good things about the place. If you ever want to go for a romantic getaway, have an event with family, or hang out with your gal pals, I highly recommend Harpole's Heartland Lodge.

There are four lodges located within Harpole's Heartland Lodge grounds. We ended up staying in the Grand View Suite in the Sunset Valley Lodge. I'd previewed the place by looking at pictures online. But nothing prepared me for the grandioseness of it all. It looked nice online but, seeing it in person took it to a whole new level. For now, I'm going to tell you about the Grand View Suite itself. Within the next few days, I will post about the rest of the lodge.
Before entering the lodge, we had to take off our shoes. There's a mudroom to leave them. Socks or slippers can be worn, but no footwear. When Jason and I walked in to the suite, our jaws darn near hit the floor. It doesn't take a lot to overly impress my husband, but he was in as much awe as I was. The suite was huge! And immaculate! And absolutely exceeded our expectations!

When you first enter the suite, there is a large open space with a bed, two sitting chairs, a business desk, and nightstands. The bed had 14 pillows on it, and the blankets were ultra comfortable. There is also two large doors with windows. You can go outside on the deck from those doors. Next to the bed, on the wall, is a flat screen TV with Blu-ray player.
large hallway in the suite
That area in and of itself was very spacious. But it just kept getting better and better. Within the hallway was a long vanity with two sinks and several lights. On the other side was two walk-in closets. I'm not sure who's ever stayed there long enough to fill the closet space but I'm sure of one thing; I totally want closets like that in my own home! Hanging in one of the closets was a set of "his" and "hers" robes.

Once you've passed the vanity, there's a small room with a toilet and a bidet. A bidet is one of those fancy toilets that shoots water in your nether regions. First time using one of those!
At the very end is a Jacuzzi bath, surrounded by windows with blinds. There's also a personal sauna. Which means you don't have to get sweaty with anyone you don't want to!
the oh-so-comfortable bed
My favorite within the suite was the spacious walk-in shower. I wasn't able to get pictures of the entire shower but it easily could have fit six people in it (not that we tried). A window within the shower allowed us to view the scenery outside. There's no blinds or shade, so there's not a lot of privacy unless you go to the very sides of the shower.

Jason and I absolutely loved the Grand View Suite. It's one of the best places we've ever stayed. You could tell that staff takes pride in their rooms. Everything was in tip-top shape.
Harpole's Heartland Lodge is located in rural Nebo, IL. You have to go "over the river and through the woods" to get there, but it's absolutely worth it. We're already in the planning stages to go with friends early next year.
