Random Tuesday Thoughts - Mums and Cubs

I skipped out on Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked last week but, never fear, I'm back in the game.
---------------------------
My kitty, Misty, turned one year old on the 13th.  I was more excited about it than she was.  Don't tell the dog, but Misty is my favorite.
They say it's my birthday

I'm not a baseball fan by any stretch of the imagination.  For those that are in the area, it's a battle between the Cardinals and the Cubs.  I actually did tune in to the bottom of the ninth to see the Cubs get their spot for the World Series.  It's the first time in 71 years, so I'm actually pretty excited to see the World Series.  If just for the palpable excitement.
--------------------------
I don't have a green thumb to save my soul but I'm fairly decent at keeping mums alive.  They're also one of my favorite flower species.  I mentioned to my hubby that I'd like to have one.  The next day he came home and surprised me with a large mum.  He definitely spoils me.  Now to prove to him that I can keep it alive.
-----------------------------
I went to Kmart the other day to browse around and noticed their summer apparel was on sale for $1.99 each.  I stocked up on a few blouses for myself.  Later I noticed that I got 10,000 Shop Your Way bonus rewards (equals $10).  In other words, they paid me to take their clothes.  Score!

DRDC

Saturday was the last roller derby bout of the season.  Being that my daughter and I are alumni, we were able to get in for free.  I hadn't watched any of the bouts yet this season and going on Saturday made me miss being a part of the team.  (But not enough that I'm going to do it again.)  It was kinda neat because it was Battle of the Sexxes.  Capital City Hooligans (all men's team) and DRDC (all women's team).  Although the men's team won, both played a fierce game.

What  have you been up to lately?
Have any tips or advice on keeping mums healthy?
Find any good bargains at stores recently?

Hey that is a good shopping deal. Getting paid to bring home clothes is a rare thing for sure. :) Good luck with the mum! I'm glad you get spoiled, that's nice. :) And hurrah for outings with your daughter.

Oh yeah...the cubs. I'm from Ohio, so I guess I should route for the Indians. I know my mom is, lol. Truth is I might not watch it at all (ha! speaking of my mom, she'd throw her hands up in mock frustration if she saw me write that). She's been an Indian fan as long as I can remember. One of my childhood memories is her jumping on the couch screaming with joy when Lenny Barker got a no-hit season or something when I was a wee little one. :)

I would love to try roller derby!! That would be so cool and fun.

I have a large potted mum on my front porch, but it will die very soon simply due to the cold weather here. Like, we had snow today. SNOW. So it's totally not my fault that it dies. I've tried putting them in the ground before the frost, but not one has even come back up again. So, I guess it's the one plant that has defeated my normally green thumb. It's so large that I cannot bring it into the house either.

Don't water the blooms--water the base of the plant every few days instead and the blooms will last longer. It is warm enough here that mums come back every year. Basically I prune them back after the blooms die and throw a little mulch over them for good measure if it gets really cold, and that is it. They come back bigger and lovelier next year. I only plant flowers that basically take care of themselves and mums seem to fit that description nicely.
