Glasstic Water Bottle - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
This year I started going to a fitness center to get in shape.  I've also been going on walks, when the weather's nice.  One thing that keeps me going is water.  It keeps me hydrated and keeps me from feeling like I'm going to drop down and die.  I've been using a Glasstic water bottle during workouts and, I've got to say, I really like it.
There are a few things that make the Glasstic water bottle so special and handy.  For one, it has a unique design.  The glass is contained in a shatterproof shell.  That means if I have an "oopsie doopsie" moment, the broken glass will remain inside the protective outer shell. There won't be glass fragments all over the floor.  And, Glasstic will replace any parts of the bottle for free if it does break.  That's good customer service!  The Glasstic water bottle is mostly shatterproof, so it will unlikely break.  It is designed to take a decent beating.  Other features of Glasstic is that it has a wide mouth and a flip top with handle.  It also doesn't sweat or cause condensation on the outside of the bottle.

There are several different designs available for the Glasstic water bottle.  I received the Peace Design with blue flip cap, which is mostly blue and green in color.  Peace signs, swirls, and florals cover the entire bottle.

Glasstic recently launched a design tool allowing customers to design and create their own custom water bottle.  You can add images, symbols, or text.  The Glasstic website is very informative, and has videos showing how Glasstic is shatterproof.

I consider my Glasstic water bottle a staple for my workouts, and I take it with me all the time.

Honeywell Removable Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier - Review and Giveaway

I received product for review from Honeywell.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I have super dry skin and the cold winter weather makes it much worse.  Besides using creams and moisturizers, I've been using the Honeywell Removable Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier to provide a cool mist in my bedroom.  It also helps with congestion relief.

I've only ever owned a humidifier designed for children, so I was amped to use one for myself.  The machine is fairly quiet and hasn't been disruptive to sleep when we've used it.  It can run up to 36 hours per filling.  We've been using the humidifier in our bedroom during the afternoon and evening hours, and we're pleased with how well it works. This particular model is available in two colors - black and white.

Using the humidifier is fairly simple.  Although it does not look like it upon first glance, the humidifier has several components.  It took me a couple of times to read the instruction manual, but now I have the hang of it.  Included is a demineralization cartridge that is optional to use.  Its function is to help minimize the production of white dust caused by hard water.  There are two ways that you can fill the Honeywell Removable Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier.  You can either pour water from a pitcher or jug directly into the water tank or you can take the tank off the base and take it to the sink to fill.  I prefer the first method.

The humidifier is powered with an electrical cord.  The power knob has high and low settings.  To work at its best, the humidifier needs to be pointed away from walls or furniture.  The device needs daily maintenance of emptying the water tank, doing some wiping and rinsing, and finishing with drying it down.  A deeper, more thorough weekly cleaning is recommended.

The humidifier shuts off when the water level is low or when the tank is removed from the base.  That means no worry from me, wondering if it's going to run on empty.  I'm definitely a fan of this humidifier!

Win It!

Keeping Baby Safe with the diono radian rXT Car Seat - Review

I received product for review from diono.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I love having my little nieces over to visit or take them somewhere, but transporting them used to be a task.  I'd have to take the car seat out of the parent's car and put it in mine.  Since receiving the diono radian rXT car seat, I've been able to save time and I feel safe knowing that I have a top-quality car seat.
diono, a leading manufacturer of child safety seats, also understands that safety is paramount for little ones.  Most parents choose safety as the #1 factor in choosing a seat, and diono's radian rXT car seat is designed with safety and security as top priorities.  I personally know a few parents that swear by diono as their car seat provider, and I can now see why.

This particular car seat is available in six colors, and I received it in Black Scarlet.  The overall design is sharp and streamlined.

I highly recommend reading the instruction manual before assembly.  Most of the car seat is already put together, but there's some important instructions that you should abide by for proper installation and safety reasons.  It also helps you determine the proper positioning for your child.

The diono radian rXT car seat can be used in both rear and forward-facing positions.  It can also be folded and unfolded.  It folds flat for travel.  Shoulder straps can be purchased separately to carry the car seat on your back if you want to transport it somewhere by foot.

This car seat model has so many great features.  Some are for safety and a couple are for convenience.  A few of the safety features include a steel alloy frame and aluminum reinforced sides, energy absorbing EPS foam and side impact protection, infant body support cushions and memory foam for added comfort, and a Safe Stop® energy-absorbing harness.  Safe Stop is a device designed to absorb energy and reduce impact to a forward-facing child.  One of the convenient accessories is a cup holder.  The diono radian rXT can be used from infancy stage to booster mode, which is typically that of a child up to 120 pounds.

I have noticed that this car seat is heavier than the average car seat on the market.  This is because it includes so many safety features, and is built with a steel frame.  And that's something I can deal with.  After getting the hang of how to install and use this car seat, I like it a lot.  And my nieces who've rode in it seem very comfortable and enjoy the ride.

Honeywell HeatGenius™ Ceramic Heater - Review

I received product for review from Honeywell.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I wrote a post a few days ago with a review on the Honeywell UberHeat™ Ceramic Heater, which gets used in the guest room/office.  Now I'd like to tell you about another heater from the same company - the Honeywell HeatGenius™ Ceramic Heater.  This particular heater is put in to use in the garage when my husband is hanging out in there, or I use it when I'm doing my thing in the laundry room.

Thankfully this winter hasn't been too harsh in my area.  And I much prefer it that way.  When chilling weather does strike I can count on Honeywell heaters to kill the chill.

Because this ceramic heater has several functions, I recommend that you read the instructions and manual before using.  There is no assembly required.  It can be put to use as soon as it's taken out of the box.  The heater is powered with electricity by plugging in the cord.

There is a power on/off button and several settings.  When the heater is first turned on each time, it will default to one particular setting.  So, you will need to push the control buttons each time to select the setting you want.

The heat settings include:

Floor Area - low heat:  Warms up the floor area in front of the heater.

Personal - moderate heat: There's a choice of two options.  One provides heat using the upper heating elements and the other slightly increases heat output.

Room - moderate-high heat: Brings heat to cool, drafty rooms.  Can choose moderate or maximum heat level.

Thermostat - moderate-high heat:  This allows you to control and choose your desired temperature.

Heatphase Timer: Gradually transitions the room temperature from warmer to cooler with a timer.

Quiet Mode:  Has a low heat setting and a fan speed to produce white noise.

The Honeywell HeatGenius™ Ceramic Heater needs to be placed on a firm, level surface and kept at a safe distance from surrounding objects.  I particularly like that this heater has several safety features, with one being a tip-over switch that will disable the heater if it is tipped.  A high temperature safety control prevents overheating, and a thermal cut-off fuse that will permanently shut down the heater if it operates at a higher than normal temperature.  The heater is made with heat resistant materials and is cool to the touch.

Because the heater has so many settings, I can set the heat to exactly what I want and Jason can set it to his liking when he's using it.  I don't have to be too hot, and he doesn't have to be too cold.  It's the perfect heater for us.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Birthdays and Wontons

Stacy Uncorked is back this week with Random Tuesday Thoughts.  Link up at her blog if you'd like to play along.
-----------------------
I finally got a decent pic of my son and his girlfriend dressed up for Homecoming.  They're such a cute couple.  I asked Logan the other day if they've had their first fight yet.  His reply: "Well, no. Fighting is stupid and there's no reason to ever do it."  That's my boy!
------------------

Speaking of Logan, he got me an interesting combo for a Valentine's Day gift - a single rose and a 4-pack of Monster Energy Drink.  Hey, can't complain; I need all the energy I can get.

Jason got me a vase of Amaryllis flowers.  He says they're supposed to be easy to take care of, and shouldn't die anytime soon.  He must not know me; I can kill a weed in no time flat!
-----------------------
Later today I will be attending a funeral for my cousin's six  year old son who passed away from an asthma attack a few days ago.  I can't even begin to fathom the pain my cousin is going through.
----------------------
Emma and Jason hanging out at the coin-operated machines

Four of our six kids took me and Jason out last Wednesday night to a Chinese buffet in celebration of Jason's 40th birthday.  Jason's mom and brother also showed up.  He's now as old as I am.

I purchased an orange hunting vest as a present for Jason.  He just got into the sport late last year.  So far, he's killed one squirrel.

wontons

Jason and I had a one-on-one supper date at Hyvee Market Cafe.  It's a cafe inside a grocery store.  I don't necessarily care for the concept but I do like their food.  The maple, bacon, and jalapeno wontons are to die for.
-----------------------------------
It's stepping outside of my comfort zone, but I've agreed to take a volunteer position with Jason at the hospital on Fridays.  We will be going there to meet with the patients affiliated with our church congregation and praying over them.  He and I went for our first time last week.  I actually enjoyed doing it, from talking with the 90 year old lady who swore she knew me to praying with a husband who wasn't sure if his wife was going to make it through her bypass surgery.
--------------------------------------

With all that, I'll leave you with one last picture of my pretty kitty, Misty.

What's your randomness for the week?

Celebrate Canned Food Month with Keystone Meats - Review and Giveaway

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Last month I was introduced to Keystone Meats.  The company has been in business since 1964 and they are known for their canned meats and soup bases.  February is Canned Food Month, which is a good time to remember that you can substitute Keystone Meats into any of your recipes that call for cooked chicken, cubed beef, pork, turkey, or ground beef.
ingredients used in Green Bean Chicken Cheese Casserole

There are a few reasons why I like Keystone All Natural Chicken.  It is delicious and there's plenty of it in a can.  The canned meat is convenient because the chicken is already cooked, and all I have to do is shred it up with a fork and heat it.  There's no long process of cooking chicken, and I like that the only contained ingredients are chicken and sea salt.

The other night we used Keystone All Natural Chicken to create shredded chicken tacos.  A couple nights later, I created a casserole for supper using Keystone Meats All Natural Chicken, and I'd like to share it with you.

Green Bean Chicken Cheese Casserole

Ingredients:

2 small cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 cup milk
1 cup French Fried Onions
2 cans green beans, drained
3/4 cups sour cream
1 cup cheddar cheese
1 can Keystone All Natural Chicken

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 °F.  Combine all ingredients and spoon into shallow 1-quart baking dish. Bake 40 minutes or until mixture is heated through; stir.

One person will win two cans of Keystone Meats All Natural Chicken.

Pacific Play Tents: One Touch Tent - Review

I received product for review from Pacific Play Tents.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
I have a large screened-in back porch.  A lot of times the kids in the family or from Small Group come over to play, and the back porch accommodates them.  Because kids are always at the house, I keep toys and other items around that will keep them entertained.  One thing that's been a big hit lately is the One Touch Tent.

This particular tent is also a big hit with me.  It takes very little time and effort to set-up and take down.  It's easy peasy!
green carrying bag that holds the tent for storage and transport

To set the tent up, all you've go tot do is take it out of the carry bag, unfold the tent, then lift it up and lock it in place.  It takes under a minute for it to be ready for use.  And it's just as simple to take down.  You just lift up the center, fold the sides in, and put it back in the carrying bag.

Other features of the One Touch Tent is that it can withstand most wind and provides protection from harmful UV rays.  There are small sand pouches on each corner that can be filled with sand for added stability.

This tent has a velcro opening on the front and a circular see-through spot that kids can look out of when the flap is lifted.  Mesh top panels provide ventilation.  Two kids can fit in it comfortably.

The material of the tent is mostly waterproof and protects from UV rays.  The only downside I see to this tent is that that the polyester taffeta fabric is wrinkly and doesn't smooth out that well.  The kids don't seem to mind, though.  They've spent a lot of time in it reading, playing, and using their imagination.  It definitely keeps them occupied.

Pacific Play Tents is a privately owned company dedicated to providing children with creative, high quality and imaginative products for indoor and outdoor use.

Celebrate Heart Health Month with AquaBall - Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and result may differ.

February is Heart Health Month, which is a good time to keep AquaBall, a healthy and delicious kid's drink, on your radar.  I won't purchase merchandise or food based mainly on a character or celebrity endorsement. I don't have a lot of purchasing sway that way. But I know kids tend to gravitate towards drinks and edibles that feature popular characters and colorful graphics. I have no problem buying such food products as long as I believe in the actual food or drink itself, not just the packaging.

AquaBall, with its cute character packaging, appeals to young'uns as the first and only flavored water just for kids that has absolutely no sugar or calories. The brand is upfront about the ingredients in their naturally flavored water and it's the only water beverage that meets Disney's nutritional guidelines. The ingredients include water, natural flavor derived from fruits and berries, enhanced with vitamins, and sweetened with a touch of stevia.  There are ten ounces of Purified Water in every bottle.

There are four flavors of AquaBall, with each flavor being dedicated to a specific Disney character group.  Berry Frost features characters from Disney’s Frozen.  Fruit Punch has Mickey Mouse characters on the front.  Strawberry Lemonade has Disney Princesses, and Grape features Marvel "Avengers".

AquaBall naturally flavored water gives kids the H2O they need, with a tiny hint of flavor. It makes drinking water more fun, and quenches the thirst.  They can be purchased as single bottles or a six-pack.

Would your kid like the character designs featured on AquaBall?
Which flavor of AquaBall would your child drink?

Making Marriage Beautiful - #LitfuseReads Book Review

I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Info:

What makes a marriage beautiful? Honesty? Compatibility? Physical and emotional intimacy?
All of these are important, but there's one component that determines the quality and longevity of a marriage more than anything else: a willingness to grow.

Because a wedding joins together two imperfect people, all couples experience disappointment, conflict, and pain. How husbands and wives respond to these challenges determines the kind of people they will become and the kind of marriage they will have.

Making Marriage Beautiful reveals how the pursuit of Christ results in profound transformation for both the individual and the marriage. Rather than offering clich├ęs and formulas, Greco relies on candor, humor, and real life stories to bring encouragement and wisdom to all couples, regardless of whether they have been married four weeks or forty years.

About the Author:

Dorothy Greco and her husband, Christopher, have spent their entire twenty-five-year marriage helping men and women create and sustain healthy marriages. They have served numerous churches in the Greater Boston area for thirty years. Dorothy's writing has been featured in "Relevant Magazine," "Christianity Today," "Sojourners," and "Her.meneutics." She is a regular contributor for "Gifted for Leadership," "Today's Christian Woman," and "Start Marriage Right." The Grecos have three sons and live near Boston.
My Review:

Just like any other marriage book with insight and advice, it takes more than just reading the words.  You've got to actually apply the principles to your relationship.  Jason and I have been married almost fifteen years and things are mighty fine between us, but I'm all for taking tips on how to keep our marriage strong.

Told from a Christian standpoint, Making Marriage Beautiful is insightful and interesting.  Some books in this format are dry or use flashy words.  This book isn't dumbed down, but is written so that people will want to read it and actually apply what's being told.  Several areas of marriage and relationships are covered.  For instance, this book goes over the importance of self-awareness, the five anger-based responses, what Jesus teaches us about becoming better listeners, and how suffering leads to love.  Narratives from different couples tell how they've failed and/or recovered in marriage.
At the end of each chapter is a section that allows the reader to go deeper by thinking about and answering questions.  I really enjoyed that part because it made me delve deeper in to my actions and behaviors regarding my marriage and my relationship with Jesus.

It's National Lash Day

Eyelashes are necessary to keep dirt and debris out of our eyes.  But they're also a big deal in the makeup world.  Whether you keep them natural or wear fake lashes, today is the time to celebrate.

I've tried the whole fake lash thing and I haven't quite mastered the look.  In fact, I've barely mastered it.  Although I don't have a particularly favorite brand, I do like to wear mascara to enhance my lashes.

If you want to be in the running to win some mascara, Absolute New York is hosting a giveaway on their Instagram page in appreciation of National Lash Day.

Do you wear fake lashes or prefer to keep your lashes natural?  What's your favorite mascara brand?

Duck Commander Happy, Happy, Happy Stories for Kids - Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Thomas Nelson.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Overview:

Using the lively cast of characters from Duck Dynasty that everyone knows and loves, Korie Robertson and her mom, Chrys Howard, will tell mostly true stories that illustrate important biblical lessons in a fun and engaging way. Each story will also include a “Duck Commander Fun” activity and a Bible verse.

My Review:

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know the Duck Dynasty celebrities.  They're famous for the family-themed television show about duck calls, country living, and Christian beliefs.  Although I'm not a devoted fan of Duck Dynasty, I've watched their shows from time to time and admire that they stand firm in their religious beliefs.

A hardcover book written for children ages 4 to 8, Duck Commander Happy, Happy, Happy Stories for Kids has fourteen individual stories telling mostly true stories about the Duck Dynasty family.  Being a new kid in a different surrounding, and taking a leap of faith by crossing a skywalk are just a couple of the tales told.

The "Duck Commander in Action" section at the end of each story encourages kids to take action and consider life movements.  The action steps push children to put into practice the Biblical application of each story.  For instance, one talks about talents and how to properly apply them in thoughts and behaviors.  There are a couple of blank ruled pages in the back of the book where the reader can write in a story of their own.  To further engage the child, there's also "Let's Talk About It" sections after each story, with book discussion format asking the reader to recall what they read in the story.

I think Duck Commander Happy, Happy, Happy Stories for Kids is written in a way that will make kids want to read it, as well as follow through with the actions requested of them.  If your children are not familiar with the Duck Dynasty cast, they may not associate with the stories that involve the famous family because the stories are told from the family's experiences.  Despite that, this is a perfect book for kids to get plugged into.

Win It!

One person will win a book copy of Duck Commander Happy, Happy, Happy Stories for Kids.

Gifts that Give Back: Kohl's Cares Collection - Review

I received products for review from Kohl's.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

When I walk into our local Kohl's store one of the first things I notice is the Kohl's Cares merchandise display. I'm drawn to it because the products are very affordable and monies from the sale of the collection supports children's health and education initiatives nationwide. It's a win, win!

The newest Kohl's Cares collection is available at all Kohl’s stores nationwide and on Kohls.com now through early April.  Kohl’s is offering award-winning children’s books from renowned author/illustrator Dr. Seuss and other merchandise priced at just $5 each, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children’s health initiatives nationwide.
Books and toys featured in the Kohl’s Cares spring collection include:

The Cat in the Hat bilingual book and Cat in the Hat toy
The Sneetches book and Sneetch toy
Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose book and Thidwick toy
Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now book and Marvin toy
And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street book and Giraffe toy
Color with Mom coloring book
101 Coolest Science Experiments book
Happy Little Rabbit bundle

Dr. Seuss is a classic icon that continues on with the children's books and plush.  The plush are simply adorable. Although you don't have to purchase a book that coordinates with the plush, both together are a perfect combination. The storybooks are a wonderful read all on their own, but the plush give an added touch. The books are hardcover and written for young children.
As most of you know, I own several adult coloring books.  Using markers or colored pencils and coloring in pictures is therapeutic for me.  The Color with Mom Coloring Book is 96 pages of pictures for both adults and kids.  The more intricate pictures are intended for the adults, while the simpler ones are for the children.  The book is spiral bound and has perforated pages.  Each picture also has a "colored by" line that can be filled in by the person who colored the page.  Some of the illustrations include planets, peacocks, cats, and much more.

Kohl’s Department Stores is committed to giving back to the communities it serves by supporting kids' health and education nationwide through its philanthropic platform Kohl’s Cares. Since 2000, Kohl's has raised more than $300 million for kids health and education initiatives through the Kohl's Cares cause merchandise program, recognized more than 22,000 outstanding kids through the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program and donated more than 3.2 million hours of associate volunteer time through the Associates in Action volunteer program.

Have you ever purchased anything from the Kohl's Cares collection? Which item from this newest collection is your favorite?
