OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

In the scary-fun tradition of Scooby Doo and Goosebumps comes this animated adventure about a heroic boy and some magical friends uncovering the mystery of a legendary monster.

Leo San Juan was imprisoned after being mistaken for a rebel insurgency by the royal army while on his way home to Puebla. But when a mysterious flying monster, known as the Chupacabra, is on the rise, attacking prisoners and guards, he must defend his fate and fight the flying monster.

My Review:

Most of us know of at least one urban monster legend.  For me, the creature's name was Mo-Mo.  My father, while traveling through the state of Missouri, would point towards the woods and tell me that Mo-Mo was hiding in them.  Although I didn't fully believe him, the question of curiosity was there.

The Legend of Chupacabras is the same kind of monster legend.  This film is the fourth installment in the La Leyenda animated series.  This is the first I've seen in the series.  The main character, Leo San Juan is a juvenile who is imprisoned and has to fight to maintain his innocence.  He and some of his magical friends then fight a flying monster, known as Chupacabras.  Leo San Juan begins a mission to find out where Chupacabras came from, what it is, and why it's there. In the end, they find that the Chupacabras aren't that bad after all.

There's two male sidekicks that are seen in the film, and the pair are the ones who bring the laughs.  This movie is full of adventure and teaches that violence isn't the answer.  It also teaches that we should have open minds and not jump to conclusions.  There is some scary imagery.  It's not gore or horror by any means, but the scenes of monsters and an impending execution may cause little ones to be frightened.  My nieces, 9 and 10, watched this movie and liked it.  The cartoon film runs a little less than an hour and a half long.

Although mostly fearful and spoiled, Dr Smith in Lost in Space is a real villain in the first season when it is in black and white.
