Power of Prayer Thursdays - Week 87

Photo by Harman Abiwardani on Unsplash

I believe in a God that hears prayers and answers them. I've witnessed the miraculous gift of answered prayer. And, I want to pray for you. I've started weekly Power of Prayer post every Thursday. We are now on week 87. If you are needing prayer in an area of your life, please leave a comment and I'll commit to pray for your need or request. You can be as general or as specific as you like. Whether it be for healing, salvation, finances, emotions, or another area of life, I'd like to lift it up in prayer.

Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.

Visiting the Bestie: Another Iowa Trip

Todd at an antique shop with a semi-sorta famous plush giraffe

As I've mentioned, my bestie moved to Iowa a couple months ago.  How dare her?!!
It's a three hour drive so we can't have every-other-day visits but we've both made a couple trips to hang.

Jason and I went up there a few weeks ago and checked out some of the neighboring suburbs.

Nachos at a pub that had good food but I can't remember the name

We dipped in to several antique shops and Czech markets.  I behaved myself and didn't buy anything.  It was interesting to see the Czech culture, considering I hadn't been familiar with it before.

I was surprised at the amount of bicyclists.  You had your "Dad in front with kids and mom in tow" and your "College kids doing a bar crawl" crews. Everybody and their dog owned a bicycle!

Iowa is full of biker gangs.

Saturday night we went to a local bar and listened to a live country band.  I don't remember who they were.  Heck, I don't remember getting so many pics taken with them.  Good times!  I even went on my first Uber ride (still waiting for our city to jump on that bandwagon).

me and Alaina at the Chrome Horse Saloon & Slop House

Tomorrow I will be heading back up to Iowa and spending several days with Alaina and her family.  Blog posts will be few and far between (if any) but I'll have plenty to post about when I get back.  Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend!

What are your plans for Labor Day weekend?
Have you ever used Uber or Lyft for a ride?

Coral LLC® Coral Daily Vitamin D3 - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.  These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

A few months ago I had labs done.  Everything came back fine, with the exception of my Vitamin D levels.  They were extremely low.  The doctor prescribed me a high dosage of Vitamin D to be taken once weekly.  After completion of the pills, I had labs done again and the numbers were back in the normal range.  Although I was in the clear, the doctor still recommended that I take daily OTC Vitamin D pills.

As summer comes to a close, it’s a common misconception that the sunny season has provided the Vitamin D requirements for maintaining strong bones and good overall health.
While those long beach days and outdoor adventures no doubt increase sun exposure—and thus Vitamin D production—factors including where one lives, the time of exposure, skin color, the amount of skin exposed, sunscreen, and more, can affect just how much of the “sunshine vitamin” is produced.

Recent research shows that about 42 percent of Americans are Vitamin D deficient, which is why taking a Vitamin D supplement like Coral LLC Coral Daily Vitamin D3 is recommended all year long—no matter the season.  I read the research article, published by Prevention, and was kind of surprised at the health risks associated with low Vitamin D.  Knowing that I've already had low levels once, I'm going to make it a point to take a Vitamin D supplement daily from here on out.  I've been taking the Coral LLC Coral Daily Vitamin D3 because it delivers daily value requirements, plus calcium and other minerals essential to good health.

Coral Daily Vitamin D3 provides 5,000 IU of Vitamin D3, which is the type of Vitamin D recommended by the Vitamin D Council, and 100 mg of coral calcium, an important partner in support of strong bones. Additionally, the supplement includes 73 other trace minerals derived from above-sea, EcoSafe coral.

Coral Daily Vitamin D3 is offered in a container of 100 easy-to-swallow, veggie capsules.  It is recommended to take one pill a day.

Coral LLC, the leading brand of coral minerals, is one of the original coral calcium mineral companies in the U.S., using only EcoSafe above-sea coral in its products.

I'm sure almost all of us can recount where we were and what we were doing on that dreadful day of 9/11/01.  I was sitting on the couch and getting my kids dressed when I first saw the news.  My heart sank and my jaw dropped.  Years later, I still have the haunting images from the TV in my head.

9/11 opens in theaters on September 8 and features an all star cast including Luis Guzman (The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Wood Harris (Justified), Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York), Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries) and Bruce Davison (X-Men).

In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.

Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later ... their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.

With no understanding of what has happened and is happening around them, these fives are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds.

Shelby and George's Engagement Party

Although they won't be getting married until next October I hosted an engagement party for my oldest daughter and her fiancee on Saturday.  It was an opportunity for the two families to meet, greet, mingle, and eat.

Because Shelby and George love all things superhero, I went with that theme.  Batman was top dog, with other superheros seen throughout the room.  I wouldn't say it was Pinterest worthy but I was pretty impressed that it all came together so well.

Shelby and George

I really like this guy so I'm hoping she sticks with him.  It was easy to talk to his family as well, and it didn't seem awkward.  I wish I would have gotten more pics of the decor and people there but it's too late now.

Allyson, Me, and Jason

me with my mini-me

George's family knew who I was from the get-go.  Everyone swears me and Shelby look alike so I suppose there's no denying her!

me and Allyson (and Batman)

Being the mother of the bride and maid-of-honor is going to cause a few gray hairs but I'm honored.  Now that the engagement party's done, it's time to plan a wedding!!

Color, Snap, App! My First Animated Coloring Book - Review and Giveaway

I received product for review from Candlewick Press.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Overview:

Become an artist and filmmaker in one go with an exciting new twist on the coloring book. Kids are invited to color in the pictures, take photos of them using a free Blink Book app (downloaded separately onto a phone or tablet), and watch them turn into animated films . . . as easy as color, snap, app! With sixteen spreads to color, users are able to produce sixteen animated episodes totaling eight minutes’ worth of video — and will be thrilled to play the role of creator in this cutting-edge blend of art and technology.

Turn your artwork into animated films! Here is a truly innovative coloring book designed to bring pictures to life with the help of a free Blink Book app.

My Review:

Color, Snap, App! My First Animated Coloring Book takes coloring to a whole new level.  To do this, you first color the pictures in the book.  Then you take a photo of the pictures on your smartphone or tablet, and use the Blink Book app to make an animated movie.

You will need to install the Blink Book app to make the pictures become animated.  The app turns your pictures into animated movies after you've snapped photos of the pictures on your smartphone or tablet.  Your completed creations move and you can discover fascinating facts about the objects and things you've colored.

The inside cover of the book has interesting facts about animals.  For instance, you can learn that many butterflies are brightly colored and patterned to trick predators into thinking they are poisonous.  Or, that a zebra's stripes help keep flying insects away.

It's a fun experience to color and see the finished result.  It's another to see that completed picture come to life with animation!

Win It!

The Little Kernel - Miniature Popcorn Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I always have snacks on hand at my house.  The teens raid my pantry each day like the apocalypse is near, and I serve snacks to Small Group every Tuesday.  One of our faves is popcorn, and we were recently introduced to The Little Kernel.

The Little Kernel is a miniature popcorn brand with a unique, hulless, "miniature kernel." Popped in 100% pure olive oil, each kernel is gluten-free, non-GMO, dairy-free, kosher and certified whole grain.

There are six flavors of The Little Popcorn available:

Sweet & Salty
Naked (no salt added)
Truffle Sea Salt
Pink Himalayan Salt
Butter
White Cheddar

We were able to try two of the six flavors - Butter and Truffle Sea Salt.  The popcorn is smaller than regular popcorn, but looks the same otherwise.  The flavors were delicious, and it tasted fresh.  The Little Kernel went over well with my kids and the people in Small Group.

A portion of all proceeds from The Little Kernel goes to Generation Rescue, an organization that helps those with autism spectrum disorders.

Which flavor of The Little Kernel would you want to try first?

Brooklyn Organics - Craft Ginger Ale Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
School is back in session, which means parents are on the lookout for kid-friendly snacks and beverages as lunchbox essentials.  If you're looking for a beverage that is USDA Organic-certified, non-GMO, sugar free, and caffeine free then Brooklyn Organics is the drink for you.

Brooklyn Organics has five USDA Organic-certified sodas that are fizzy and sweetened with plant-based Stevia.  Each can is 8.4 ounces.  I received three of the five flavors - Cola, Classic, and Acai.  I liked the refreshing, fizzy flavors.

I think older kids would enjoy Brooklyn Organics as a lunchbox beverage.  Or you (not your kids!) could add Brooklyn Organics to vodka to add some flavor and fizz.

Egyptology: The Coloring Book - Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Candlewick Press.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Overview:

Who can resist the allure of ancient Egypt — and the thrill of exploring mysteries that lay hidden for thousands of years? Now dedicated Egyptologists and avid coloring fans alike can put pencil or marker to the page and bring extraordinary treasures to life. The images found within include hieroglyphs, pyramids, artifacts, statuary, and mummy masks such as those discovered inside the tomb of King Tut himself.

The best-selling ’Ology phenomenon meets the coloring book craze!

My Review:

Art and history combine with this book based on the facsimile of a journal supposedly written in 1926 by Egyptologist Emily Sands.

I find Egyptian history fascinating and enjoyed reading the interesting notes written within the pages.  Emily, the Egyptologist, tells of discoveries and things she learned while exploring Egypt, including the fact that ancient Egyptians appeared to have no desire to travel to foreign parts.  The left side of each page is the journal writings in typed form, with the date included.  The right side of each page is illustrations that you can color, including hieroglyphics, artifacts, mummies, and more.  I've used colored pencils to draw on the pages so far, so I can't vouch if markers will bleed through or not.  Egyptology: The Coloring Book is still an interesting read, even if you don't want to color in it.

Unleashed - Film Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

In UNLEASHED, a cosmic event turns Emma's dog and cat into two perfect guys, forcing her to reconsider her outlook on dating, hilariously work out her trust issues, and ultimately learn to love
herself.

STARRING:
KATE MICUCCI | JUSTIN CHATWIN | STEVE HOWEY | HANA MAE LEE | JOSH BRENER WITH ILLEANA DOUGLAS AND SEAN ASTIN

Film Synopsis:

Emma, a brilliant but awkward app designer, moves to San Francisco
after a massive betrayal by her boyfriend with only her beloved
pets, an adorable cat and an energetic mutt, in tow. One night,
drawn by the light of a Supermoon, Emma’s pets escape into the
night and are transformed into full-grown men, forcing Emma to
reconsider her outlook on dating and hilariously work out her trust
issues.

My Review:

If chick flicks are your thing, then Unleashed is for you.  The premise of the story has been told several times - a person gets transformed into someone or something else when a magical occurrence happens.  In Unleashed, this event causes her cat and dog to turn into grown men.  The cat, Ajax, becomes a modeling sensation named Diego and the dog, Summit, becomes a man named Sam.  Both pets men behave like their respective animal beings and that's where a lot of the laughs come from.  Sam chases balls and Diego finds himself caught in a tree, among other animalistic characteristics.  Emma, the owner of the cat and dog, does not know that it's her pets who are now in human form.  She develops relationships with the men and learns lessons about herself along the way.

This independent film is a multiple award winner, and I enjoyed viewing it.

Will you be watching Unleashed?

Welch's Fruit Rolls - Snack Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

With back-to-school season officially in full swing, Welch’s Fruit Rolls are perfect to pack in a lunchbox or provide as an after-school snack.

My kids, all teens and above, have no problem raiding my pantry.  They're always on the prowl for a snack, and I keep a variety on hand.  The same goes for when my nieces and nephews come over.  They know that aunt Terra's house is a place for delicious treats.

From time to time I purchase Welch's Fruit Snacks.  And now I'm excited to know that there's new Welch's Fruit Rolls, from the same company.  Featuring fruit as its first ingredient, the Fruit Rolls come in three flavors: Berry, Tropical Punch, and White Grape Strawberry.  Made with natural flavors and colors from natural sources, the Fruit Rolls are gluten free, preservative free, feature 100% DV of Vitamin C and are a good source of Vitamins A & E.

They didn't last long at all, but I received a box of Welch's Fruit Rolls in the Tropical Punch flavor.  It took less than two days for them to be consumed.  Unrolling the snack and pulling it from the backing is what makes it fun.  Welch's Fruit Rolls come in six packages to a box.  They're packed with delicious flavor and soft texture.

Which flavor of Welch's Fruit Snacks are you most excited to try?

Vivica A. Fox as Cheer Goddess

Vivica A. Fox makes her Bring it On debut as Cheer Goddess, the Internet’s most popular “Cheer-lebrity.”  When Destiny (Prosperi), captain of three-time national champions “The Rebels,” is challenged to a global cheer showdown by an edgy new team called “The Truth,” the Cheer Goddess organizes a virtual battle for squads from all around the world.  It seems like the whole world wants to take down Destiny and her team, and they just might succeed, unless Density can rise to the challenge, set her ego aside and figure out who her real friends are.

The Look of Bring It On: Worldwide – A look into how the set design and costumes provide a vibrancy and unique flair to the film’s backdrop.

Gag Reel

My Review:

I'm no stranger to the Bring It On films.  I've watched all the previous films from the franchise with my teen daughters.  The premise of the movies is usually the same: a bunch of teenagers competing to be the best of a team while coming up with new and innovative routines.  Even so, we never tire of watching them.  Bring It On always includes sass, drama, spectacular moves, and upbeat music.  Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack is no different.

What does make this newest Bring It On film different is that it goes global.  Teams from all around the world take on the Northern Elite Gymnastics and Cheer team from the United States.  I was impressed with all the choreographed cheers and dances.  I don't have dance or cheer skills to save my soul but love watching the choreography, stamina, and confidence that comes from those who do.
The Internet, cell phones, memes, and Twitter make this a modern film that will appeal to those who are big into social media.

Win It!

Two people will each win Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack on Blu-ray.

American Plastic Toys School Bus Ride-On - Review

I received product for review from American Plastic Toys.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

It's the time of year where kids are going back to school.  If you have a little one that is too young for school but still interested in imaginative educational play, you might want to consider the School Bus Ride-On from American Plastic Toys.  With it, toddlers can ride along and pretend.  There's a storage compartment under the seat to store small toys.

Before use, the School Bus Ride-On will need to be assembled.  A screwdriver, hammer, and clippers are required but not included.  Assembly was pretty easy.  It took my husband about 15 minutes to put the bus all together and add the decals.

The School Bus Ride-On is made of hard, quality plastic.  It works best if it's rode on hard, flat surfaces.  The recommended age for this toy is 1 1/2+ years.  I think it's best suited for that age and up to 3 years.

Beep!  Beep!  Your bus is here!

American Plastic Toys has proudly manufactured safe toys in United States since 1962.

LumaGlo Crossbelt - Illumination Belt Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Did you know that August is Family Fun Month?  It's the perfect time to enjoy time outdoors as a family.  Enjoy a picnic, make s'mores, sit around a campfire and tell stories, and enjoy other outdoor activities with your family.  And, you needn't worry about heading indoors at the first inkling of darkness-- the LumaGlo Crossbelt provides 360° wearable illumination for the ultimate in low- or no-light visibility.

We've had a LumaGlo Crossbelt for a couple weeks now and have already used it several times, with Logan having used it the most.  Logan is a runner and goes on runs daily, both in the day and at night.  He's been wearing the LumaGlo Crossbelt around his waist at night and he feels safer knowing that he can be seen.  Drivers and other impediments can clearly see Logan when he's running at night, and the chances of someone running into him are a lot less slimmer.

The LumaGlo Crossbelt has extremely bright, multi-colored LEDs function in eight distinct patterns and provide intense illumination that distinguishes the wearer from background lights.  It is available in two sizes, and can be worn as a belt or a sash.

LumaGlo Crossbelt needs to be charged before first initial use, and will need to be charged each time it no longer has full power.  One charge lasts for 3-6 hours.  A micro USB cable is included but you may need to have an adapter to plug the cable into an electrical outlet.  There's a button on the belt that powers the product on and off, and it's also what you need to push to cycle through the desired light pattern.

A brake light feature automatically causes the LEDs to flash bright red when you slow down to stop.  An emergency feature causes all the LEDs to strobe bright red.  The multi-colored, moving patterns are what's seen when the person wearing it is in motion.  The LumaGlo Crossbelt makes me think of a seatbelt with futuristic lights.

Like I mentioned earlier, there are two sizes available.  I'm bigger than Logan so the one we have fits me better than him.  Although the smaller size would suit him best, he can still wear the one we have because it can be adjusted it to fit nicely around your waist or around your chest area.

Logan wearing the LumaGlo Crossbelt around his waist

I can think of several occasions and activities where the LumaGlo Crossbelt would come in handy at night:

Runners, bicyclists and dog walkers
Going on a hike or to a remote location
When stuck at the side of the road
To brighten the festive atmosphere at an event
And much more.

The LumaGlo Crossbelt became available for purchase just this month.  Go and get yours now!

In what situations would you wear a LumaGlo Crossbelt?

bloom BABY Wipes - Review and Giveaway

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I don't have any wee ones of my own but am surrounded by babies.  My friends and family allow me the opportunity to get baby time with their little guys and girls.  I love shopping for baby merchandise and seeing what's on the market.  I like to be informed of what's out there so I know what to purchase as gifts.

I was recently introduced to bloom BABY, a company that specializes in baby wipes.  I know firsthand that there is a difference between wipes, and some are more superior than others.  bloom BABY is working hard to make sure their wipes are top of the line.

Made in the USA, bloom BABY jumbo size  luxurious wipes are safe for rash- and Eczema-prone skin.  They are formulated with 98% natural ingredients in 100% HydroPure™ water.  The water used in the wipes is sourced from a 6,000-year-old Canadian Glacier that is purified until it is pharmaceutical-grade.  The wipes are also hypoallergenic and enriched with
Plant-Derived Vitamins A, B-Complex, D, Omega-3, and -6.  In other words, a lot of care goes into making bloom BABY wipes.  The company has been recognized as the best sensitive baby diaper wipes of 2017 from Google Search, and the government has approved bloom BABY wipes as a USDA Certified Biobased Product.

bloom BABY wipes are available in different package sizes.  I received a case of eight packages, for a total of 640 wipes.  It came with a reusable wipes holder.  The case itself has interesting information about babies and schedules that parents can use regarding diaper changes and feedings.

I've used bloom BABY wipes for two purposes.  The first one being to wipe a baby's bum.  I've offered to change baby diapers for friends and family.  Not surprisingly, the mothers don't argue!  The wipes are thick and large in size.  Most instances only requires one wipe.  More serious accidents are usually good with two.  The wipes are soft and it's comforting knowing that they won't irritate baby's skin.

I've also used bloom BABY wipes as makeup remover.  I know they're not technically created for that use but I have a sensitive face and wanted to see how well they worked on my skin.  They work well with removing makeup and making my face feel clean.

Right now you can receive a free bloom BABY 80-Count Pack to try for yourself (just pay shipping).

Win It!

One person will win a case of bloom BABY Hypoallergenic Baby Wipes, 640-Count w/ Wipes Holder.
