It's National Respect For Parents Day

"There is no friendship, no love, like that of the parent for the child." - Henry Ward Beecher

I'm not saying it's a generational thing but, in my opinion, children had more respect for their parents in years past than they do now.  It makes my blood boil when a child treats their parents like dirt beneath their feet.  They brought you into this world, for goodness sake!  And, besides, parents are the ones who write the will!

I've always had high respect for my mother and father.  I regarded what they had to say, and valued most of their decisions.
my mom - the lady who had my respect and showed me how to respect

I'd hope that you respect your parents all days of the year, but at least give it a try today in celebration of National Respect For Parents Day.

If your children are younger, it might be a good day to set them aside and talk to them about respect. Give them examples of respect, set realistic expectations, and praise respectful behavior.  Be a good role model by showing respect to others.  After all, your children aren't going to know the proper meaning of respect if you don't display it yourself.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12

Yes, we should always respect our parents. We don't fully realize the lengths they go for us until we become parents ourselves.

I agree my parents and their parents sure did install a different set of rules.
