About the Book:

Set in South Dakota in 1975, where eighteen-year-olds could order 3.2 beer in a bar, and loaded guns were kept under the counter.

Frankie Valli sang "My Eyes Adored You," and American soldiers returning from Vietnam struggled with their new reality.

It's within this tumultuous season of American history that Tillie Caselli meets Noah Hansen, and they are never the same again. Their lives were mysteriously intertwined-and had been for many years-yet they had no idea.

From the moment they met, Tillie and Noah wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, but a deliberate omission will keep them apart---and that same omission will be responsible for the escape of a murderer, and a bride's deception.

My Review:

Tille, otherwise known as Angel, sets her standards with guys based on the Blackguard vs. Knight checklist.  A Blackguard is someone who has bad intentions and doesn't particularly care for a woman's honor.  A knight is the opposite; He's someone who cherishes a woman's needs and desires, and does what he can to protect her.

Upon a chance encounter, Tillie meets Noah.  He's a Blackguard in disguise.  He lives with his brother, drinks alcohol often, and seems to care very little about anyone but himself.  That is, until he meets the girl of his dreams in Tillie.  The two rapidly fall in love and make plans to meet up again soon.  Noah is so sure he will be with Tillie again that he cleans up his act, gets sober, and builds a dream home.  They seem destined by fate and circumstance to be together, but one occurrence after another keeps them from crossing paths again.  Tillie and Noah learn to move on, but the book suggests that they may actually meet again.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Pretender and how the characters intertwined.  I was a bit disappointed by the ending because it means I will have to read the second book, coming out later this month, to find out what happens.  But, I feel like I'm a part of these people's lives now and I must know what happens next!
