I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
About the book:

Children's clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball's soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar- entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Beaten, bound, and gagged by the two thugs inside, Mary Wade loses hope for escape when a third villain returns with supplies.
Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Weighing the difference of ruining his three months' investigation against the woman's safety, Brett forsakes his mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind.
When Mary Wade's safety is threatened once more, Brett rescues her again. This time, her personal safety isn't the only thing in jeopardy. Her heart is endangered as well.

My Review:

This is one of those books that caused conflicting emotions for me.  Parts of it I really liked, and others I wasn't a big fan of.  Rescued Hearts tells of a gal named Mary Wade Kimball who decides to take a bike ride one day and comes upon a house.  Trouble begins almost immediately.  Mary is taken hostage by three men, two of them who are definitely not nice.  This is a part in the book where you may cringe.  There is some violence and assault.  Mary Wade Kimball ends up getting out of the situation with the help of one of the males, who she discovers is an undercover agent.  Brett and Mary Wade make a big decision to stay together at his grandmother's retreat home after they learn that they're not out of the woods.

Both Brett and Mary Wade have feelings for each other but each time they start to indulge on those feelings, something comes up.  There were times that I wanted to slap some reality into Mary Wade.  That girl can't tell a compliment or good intention to save her soul.  Each time Brett would make an advance, Mary Wade would analyze way too much.

The two remaining bad guys keep tracking down Brett and Mary Wade's locations, and they cause a world of trouble.  After finally breaking free of that fiasco, Brett and Mary Wade come into YET ANOTHER situation where he has to protect her.  I'm not so sure that particular part of the story was necessary.  It seems one big troublesome scenario was enough.

Although I wasn't overly excited with some parts of this book, I did like it overall.  Brett's grandmother was my favorite character, with her no-nonsense outlook and love for family.  I wouldn't necessarily consider this book one to be classified in the Christian genre.  Just because the people pray out loud from time to time when they're in a bind doesn't make it a book about seeking God in situations.  I'd label it more as a Romantic Thriller.

Her personal safety isn't the only thing in jeopardy-so is her heart. In Hope Toler Dougherty's new novel, Rescued Hearts, children's clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball's soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar-entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Brett forsakes his three-month mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind . . . and then Mary Wade's safety is threatened once more.
