Power of Prayer Thursdays - Week 100

Photo by Gift Habeshaw on Unsplash

I believe in a God that hears prayers and answers them. I've witnessed the miraculous gift of answered prayer. And, I want to pray for you. I've started weekly Power of Prayer post every Thursday. We are now on week 100. If you are needing prayer in an area of your life, please leave a comment and I'll commit to pray for your need or request. You can be as general or as specific as you like. Whether it be for healing, salvation, finances, emotions, or another area of life, I'd like to lift it up in prayer.

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Wordful Wednesday - Bowling Fundraiser

I played on DRDC (Dark River Derby Coalition) for a little over a year.  Although I'm no longer a part of the roller derby team, I still like to support their causes.  The team is not-for-profit and donates several of its monies to local charities.  The most recent fundraiser involved bowling.

Now, I'll be one to tell you that no one in their right mind would want me on a professional league.  But if it involves donating money to play a few games, I'm in!

Me and Shelby  (Yep, wearing the hat again!)

Our team - Me, Shelby, Whitney, Logan, Jacob, Jason

Our team name was "I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter".  We didn't win squat but had a fun time bowling, eating cheesy fries, and being cheesy ourselves.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Vehicle Damage and Christmas Hats

I've been doing it for years, so I'd say Random Tuesday Thoughts is my favorite linkup.  If you'd like to participate, blog your randomness and submit your link at Stacy Uncorked.  While you're there, wish her a happy belated birthday.
--------------------

Speaking of birthdays, mine is tomorrow.  Going to be 41 years old.  Ya know, I look back and wonder how that age crept up on me so fast.  Jason and I are going to celebrate with family in St. Louis over the weekend.
-----------------------

Last Thursday I stopped into a gas station before my way to work.  A guy was backing out of the lot and didn't see me there.  Our vehicles had a little get-together and my front bumper took a beating.  He was super cool and super sorry about it.  His insurance company was Quick Draw McGraw and hasn't hesitated to get my vehicle fixed or offer a rental car.  I'm not mad; It's just a minor inconvenience, that's all.
--------------------------
I had my first ever mammogram the other day.  The stories I've heard didn't live up to the hype.  I didn't like my tatas getting pounded and smashed any more than the next gal does, but I've had much worse procedures done on my bag o' bones.  I got the good news yesterday that my boobies are A-OK.  At least part of my body is in good working condition.
---------------------------

I got together with some gals from my Small Group last week to purchase gifts for senior citizens.  We drew four names from the Senior Citizen Giving Tree and went on a spree to make their Christmas merry and bright.
--------------------

I've never been much of a hat person, especially beanies.  But ever since purchasing this Deck the Halls hat on Black Friday, I've barely taken it off.  It's nice to just throw it on and not have to do my hair.  Now I need to get one for the rest of the holidays. (or maybe I'll wear this Christmas one all year - #NoShame)
-------------------------
I went with my daughter and her husband to watch The Star in theater last week.  It's cutesy and I like how it leads to the birth of Jesus but that's about all I have to say for it.  Probably wouldn't watch it again.
------------------------------
What's your randomness for the week?
Done with Christmas shopping yet?

Chuckit! Locator Sound Ball - Dog Toy Review and Giveaway

I received product for review from Petmate.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Keep your furry family members calm and entertained this holiday with a variety of solo and interactive toys, including the Chuckit! Locator Sound Ball.  This ball emits an audible pulse sound every few seconds to help both pet parents and dogs locate the ball in any terrain after launch. Batteries are included.

The Chuckit! Locator Sound ball comes in blue/orange color and is available in two sizes - medium and large.  Although it is compatible with medium Chuckie! Launchers, a launcher is not necessary to play fetch with this ball.
My dog, Helen, loves to play fetch and we have a large back yard for her to do that.  Most of the time, she is able to locate the ball she's playing with.  Sometimes, though, she's not quite sure where it's at.  That happens mostly during dusk and dark hours.  The Chuckit! Locator Sound Ball is mainly bright orange, so that's a helpful way to locate it.  When the ball is powered on, the ball emits an audible sound so both Helen and I can find it quicker.  If you choose not to have a sound emitted, you don't have to turn the power on.

The blue part of the ball is where the batteries are located for the ball.  Before initial use, you will have to follow the instructions to make it work and turn it on.  The instructions were first hard to find within the packaging.  I found them in the bottom of the cardboard, tucked inside a tab.

Helen loves biting on the hard, chewy material that the orange part of the ball is made up of.  So far, it's taken a beating to her chompy jaws.  The Chuckit! Locator Sound Ball is a high-quality ball that's given me and Helen lots of play time together.
Win It!

One person will win a Chuckit! Locator Sound Ball.

Stress-free Turkey with JENNIE-O® - #JennieO #SwitchCircle Review

I received products for review from JENNIE-O Turkey.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
I enjoy eating turkey, especially around the holidays.  My husband is great at cooking one but it can take hours, including prep time.

It is possible to have a delicious turkey that turns out great every time for a simple, rewarding, and stress-free cooking experience with an OVEN READY™ Boneless Turkey Breast from JENNIE-O.  With no bones to carve around and a short prep time, the holidays don't get much easier!

Straight from the freezer and into the oven with no thawing required - That's where OVEN READY™ turkey gets its name, and that's why people are gravitating to this method of cooking turkey.

There are two ways to cook this particular turkey.  It can be done in the oven or the slow cooker.  I chose the latter.  If you choose to cook the turkey in the oven, you can place it with the bag directly in the appliance.  I took the crockpot route and placed the turkey directly in the slow cooker.  I added a small can of Cream of Mushroom soup, a jar of turkey gravy, and the included gravy packet that comes with the turkey.  I let it cook on low for a few hours.  Once finished, I cut up the turkey into slices and served it with vegetables.  The turkey was very moist and tender, and the flavors complemented the other food.  Just because you don't spend a lot of labor in the kitchen doesn't mean you can't cook up a delicious turkey!  Try one today.

ThriftStyle: The Ultimate Bargain Shopper's Guide to Smart Fashion - Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Book Overview:

With this easy-to-use resource, savvy shoppers can cultivate upscale, upcycled wardrobes at thrift and consignment store prices.

Shoppers will learn to navigate the racks of their local consignment shop, spot name brands like Versace, Dior, and Burberry, select the best quality items, and repair secondhand clothes that need some love. Photo-filled chapters on thrifted handbags, jewelry, scarves, and other accessories show what's available and give tips for distinguishing quality items from fakes. Interviews with expert tailors, dry cleaners, shoe repair wizards, and fabric-dyeing professionals explain what makes a damaged piece of clothing worth renovating. Before-and-after photos show what can be done to refashion less-than-perfect finds.

My Review:

Ladies and gents, I've found a resource book you need to keep nearby at all times - ThriftStyle: The Ultimate Bargain Shopper's Guide to Smart Fashion.  Whether you consider yourself a fashionista or just someone who wants to purchase quality products at a decent price, this guide has it all covered.

This book speaks to me on so many levels.  For one, all the fashion pieces pictured and talked about were found in thrift stores.  The majority of my clothing comes from thrift stores or at yard sales.  And I rarely pay full-price for anything.

This shopper's guide is divided up into different sections, making it easy to reference what you are looking for.  It talks about the benefits of thrift shopping, navigating a store, finding your style, clues to quality, and much more.  If you ever want to know an extensive list of thrift stores to shop, this book has that as well.  I loved thrift shopping before reading this guide, but I'm ready to take it to a whole new level now that I'm armed with so much more information and tips.

EZ-On BaBeez - Bodysuit for Babies Review

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Who hasn’t experienced the frustration and hassle of getting a “onesie” onto a squirmy infant?  I think onesies are a fantastic stable to a baby's wardrobe but have found it hard to try to snap the buttons back in place, all while keeping baby still.  EZ-On BaBeez is an innovative, redesigned bodysuit for babies that provides fast and easy access during diaper changes. The soft, scratch-free Velcro closures at the front waist opening replace traditional snaps.  In other words, there's no more snaps to mess with.

The EZ-On BaBeez “onesie” also provides a comfort liner in the diaper area. Wet-resistant, the soft and stretchy fabric lining is easily wiped clean.  The velcro enclosures make it much easier to remove the onesie from baby than the bodysuits with traditional snaps.  Plus, you don't have to worry about irritation or snagging.  Available five sizes, these onesies are made of soft cotton and cotton/spandex blends for comfort.  You can purchase the onesies in solid colors or print designs.  The blue bee pattern I received is super adorable and, after checking their website, I've seen several other prints that are so darn cute.

Stuff the Stockings with Go Organically Fruit Snacks - Review

I received products for review from Go Organically.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Go Organically Fruit Snacks are a great stocking stuffer and I've already purchased a couple boxes to put in my kids' stockings.  After all, I already know how well they like the treats.

Go Organically Fruit Snacks are a brand of GMO-free fruit snacks available in three varieties, all of which are USDA-certified organic, made with real fruit purées and real fruit juices. These treats include 100% of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C and are a good source of Vitamins A and E. Go Organically® Fruit Snacks are also gluten-free, preservative-free and made with natural flavors and colors from natural sources.  The three varieties available are Tropical, Mixed Berry, and Fruit Medley.

Fruit snacks are a favorite among my teens, and the Go Organically Fruit Snacks I received for review didn't last long at all.  There are eight individually wrapped snack pouches to a box.  Go Organically Fruit Snacks have a soft texture and don't contain a weird aftertaste.  I appreciate that they are comparable in taste to other brand name fruit snacks, yet are somewhat superior because they are certified organic and made with real juices and purees.

Be sure to consider Go Organically Fruit Snacks when purchasing stocking stuffers this holiday season!

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Couches and Shampoo

You know the drill by now.  Link up all your randomness at Stacy Uncorked.
-------------------------------

Thanksgiving morning, Logan participated in the local Turkey Run.  It's a 5k for those people who are motivated enough to get up at the butt crack of dawn and run in the cold.  Logan's motivation paid off.  He placed 5th overall, out of over 500 runners.  That's my boy!
------------------
Jason and I purchased a new (to us) couch at the Salvation Army thrift store.  #DontJudge
After we paid for it and a few other smaller items, the gal at the register asked one of the workers to help carry the couch out.  He threw a tantrum and insisted that he couldn't help because he needed to be in the back area working after 5:30 pm.  No exceptions!

The gal gave him the side-eye and apologized to us.  She'd never heard of such a thing.  And, not to mention, it was only 5:15 pm.  After she gave him a "motivational speech" the guy helped carry the couch to the truck.

I wasn't gonna throw a fit or make a big deal of it, but they almost got to keep their couch.  And almost lost business.
------------------------

If I wear socks for too long, moisture gets trapped inside and my feet start to itch like the dickens.  The other morning I was going full speed on the crazy train, hunting everywhere for a lotion, gel, or pill to stop the madness.  In a fit of desperation, I grabbed the dog's anti-itch shampoo and slathered  it on my feet.  Guys, it WORKED!  The relief was almost instant.  Say what you will, but that shampoo is now my go-to.
----------------------------
I didn't do a whole lot of shopping on Cyber Monday.  I did manage to purchase a few faith-based tshirts from Kerusso at amazing prices.  It's my plan to finish Christmas shopping by the beginning of next week.

Jackson Galaxy Butterfly Ball - Cat Toy Review and Giveaway

I received product for review from Petmate.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Just like with children, cats need toys and entertainment too.  My two cats, Misty and Trader Jimmy, aren't overly mischievous or ambitious.  They're pretty content with laying around most of the time.  But, once in a while, they'll get some spunk and decide it's time to play.  I have some cat toys on hand for just those times.

Recently, I received a Jackson Galaxy Butterfly Ball as a toy for my cats.  At first they weren't sure what to think of it.  Once I showed them how it worked and what to do with it, they've been all over it.  The ball is made of hard plastic and is meant to stimulate your cat.  Batteries are required, but not included.  When the ball is turned on and the cat pats at it, a motion sensor causes the butterfly inside to flutter around.  There's a slim chance that your cat will knock the ball over but it will wobble.  It has a weighted base to keep from tipping.  In addition to the fluttering butterfly, there is flower and grass decor to resemble the outdoors.  Next to the on/off switch, there is a USB port.  I'm not quite sure what it's there for and the instructions don't indicate.  Misty and Trader Jimmy love playing with this ball, batting around at it to see the butterfly move.

Win It!

One person will win a Jackson Galaxy Butterfly Ball.

New Holiday Mint Master Shake + Blast at SONIC Drive-In - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

It's not often that I get the pleasure of dining at SONIC Drive-In.  The nearest location is half an hour away from where I live.  But I certainly enjoy the food and available drink purchases when I do get to eat there.

Jason and I made it a point to head over to Hannibal, MO Monday evening to indulge in some delicious food and the new Holiday Mint Master Shake at SONIC Drive-In.

Combining seasonal flavors of cool, refreshing mint and OREO® cookie pieces, the Holiday Mint® Master Shake and Master Blast create a festive, seasonal dessert experience that guests will love. These desserts are hand-mixed and perfectly blended with SONIC’s Real Ice Cream, made with fresh milk and cream.

For myself, I ordered the $3.99 Double Feature that included a 100% Pure Beef SONIC Cheeseburger and a small shake.  Of course, I went with the Holiday Mint flavor.  And, I've got to say, it was mighty good!

Bring the family together at your local drive-in this season with the new Holiday Mint Master Shake and Master Blast. This seasonal treat is available for a limited time, so hurry over to your SONIC Drive-In.

Ecuador Mission Trip - Pan de Vida Hunger Relief

Vicki, Macie, and Tracie waiting for food preparation instructions

Two and a half months later I'm still talking about Ecuador.  There was so much to see and do.  If all goes well, me and Jason are going back next September.  The dates have already been set.

During our stay in Quito we worked mainly with Pan de Vida, a non-profit organization that is a volunteer based ministry.  Their work includes hunger relief, education, health care, home improvement, empowerment, and disaster relief.

Walt and Amber preparing the food

While we were there one of our bigger tasks was to take part in the Hunger Relief program.  Pan de Vida has fed over 500 people in the last three months by opening their doors to the people of Quito who otherwise might not have ready access to food.  This happens every Wednesday and Sunday.  Some volunteers prepare and cook the food while others play with the children until it's time to eat.

Me and Gabriel (not sure why his tag says Jean)
This boy STOLE my heart.  I wanted to pack him and his entire family up and bring them home with me.

There's a system for the entire process and it keeps things running smoothly.  Both days of the Food Program, Jason stayed in the kitchen and cooked while I hung out with the kids and played.

One rambunctious little boy fell off the playground equipment and broke his arm.  His mom went into a tizzy and took off with the kid.  The people of Pan de Vida tracked her, her sister and the boy down and took them to the hospital.  The organization paid for all medical bills, school supplies, and three months of groceries.

This is the young fella that broke his arm

An assembly line was formed once all food was cooked.  After serving the grub, we had an opportunity to sit with the families and visit with them.  There was a language barrier but you could see the love and joy in their faces.

Walt and I both brought bags of tshirts, bracelets, and candy to share.  The scene looked like piranhas in a bloodbath.  Hands were reaching up and grabbing for the goods.
Walt handing out candy

Wednesday was the first and only time I broke down.  I was told to be prepared for an emotional breakdown at some point but I didn't expect it to hit right at the heart.  After being with the families and playing with the kids (especially Gabriel) the tears started free flowing.  I ran inside before too many people took notice.  I just felt so much for these people and they showed me that love is more than a verb - it's an action!

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

I received book for review from Tommy Nelson.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Quick Overview:

Christmastime is full of God’s wonder and blessings! Celebrate all the excitement of the season with our favorite lamb, Really Woolly. Sweet rhyming text, prayers, and Scripture about the greatest gift of all, the birth of Jesus, make this the perfect Christmas gift for your favorite little one.

My Review:

I first heard of the Really Woolly® brand in 2015.  It's a popular children's brand from DaySpring with merchandise that includes books, DVDs, plush, and more.  Having read a few of their books, I can see the brand appeal.

A board book with a soft padded cover, Really Woolly Christmas Blessings is a collection of rhythmic children's poems that celebrate God's blessings.  The compositions reflect life, stars, friends, gifts, and more positive attributes of Jesus and Christmas.  Along with each poem is a Bible verse and a quick prayer that is short and easy for children to say aloud.

A lamb and a rabbit are the main characters shown in the book, with their woodland friends joining in.  Although this book is ideal to read with children leading up to Christmas, it is perfect to read anytime that you want to provoke conversation and prayer that is understandable on their level.

Win It!

One person will win Really Woolly Christmas Blessings children's book.

Kingsley the Sloth: Newest Fingerlings Toy - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Toys ‘R Us, Walmart, and Amazon have all named Fingerlings a top holiday toy of 2017.  I know demand is high around here; I've seen several posts and requests from people looking for Fingerlings.  I had heard of them but wasn't sure what the hype was until I received Kinglsey, the newest fingertip friend to WowWee's line of Fingerlings.  Kinsley is a slow and silly sloth.

Similar to the other Fingerlings in the line, Kingsley responds to sound, motion, and touch with blinking eyes, head turns, and silly sloth sounds. You can blow a kiss and Kingsley will kiss you back or you can hang Kingsley upside-down by his tail. Kids can rock Kingsley to sleep or make a loud noise and watch him get excited.  But the difference between Kingsley and the other Fingerlings is that he moves 20% slower, in true sloth fashion.

There are instructions included on how to interact with Kingsley.  By clapping and tapping and turning Kingsley upside down or sideways, your child will receive different cute motions and reactions from Kingsley.  Although your finger is the most obvious choice to let Kingsley hang out, he will also grasp onto writing utensils, straws, and other objects.  There's an on/off switch located on the back of Kingsley, and he will go into sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity.

Kingsley is a Walmart exclusive and became available November 17th.  He's a cute interactive animal that will provide lots of entertainment.
