It's National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day

Being a blogger, I receive a fair share of packages.  I appreciate the bubble wrap that protects the products.  What I appreciate more is watching my teens fight for the bubble wrap to play with it.  There's something that brings out the childhood sparkle when the wrap is smashed together or stomped on to create loud popping sounds.

Do your kids like popping bubble wrap?

Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Chips Mini Hearts - Review

I received products for review from Sensible Portions.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Just like any other year, Valentine's Day is February 14th.  And just like any other year, most people will purchase food or snack products to pass out in classrooms or parties centered around the day of love.  Brand new Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Chips in mini heart shapes are the perfect treat for everyone this Valentine's Day.  These sea-salt flavored chips are made with no artificial preservatives or fillers, non-GMO, and contain 30% less fat than the leading potato chip.

Available at Target stores nationwide, the Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Chips come in a package with 12 single-serve bags.  Each bag is decorated with a Valentine theme and has a 'To' and 'From' section.  There is a good amount of Veggie Chips in each package and they are shaped like hearts.  The veggie chips have a crunchy bite with a slight taste of sea salt.  There's not very much flavor and they are somewhat bland but they are still a tasteful treat.

If you are looking for something different from the norm to pass out this Valentine's Day season, I suggest single-serve packs of Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Chips.

It's National Spouses Day

If you've got a spouse, today is set aside to let them know you care and show appreciation (which should be done the other 364 days anyway).  It's not Valentine's Day; there's no need for gifts.  Just go the extra mile to show you care.  Spend time together and reconnect.  Make a list of all the things you're grateful your spouse does.  Don't nag - brag!

Jason's not perfect...but he's perfect for me.  I honestly couldn't ask for a better husband.  I sometimes sit in awe and wonder how I got so lucky.  We've been married for almost fifteen years.  The first ten were super rough and I'm not quite sure how we made it.  (We should've been divorced ten times over).  But the last five have been amazeballs!

I could go on and on about how great my husband is, but then you'll want him.  :)
What are some thing about your spouse that you're thankful or grateful for?

I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug! - #BearHugs #FlyBy Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255:  “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”):  Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway.  Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation.  I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

About the Book:

I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug!, written by bestselling author Caroline B. Cooney, is a playful and comforting bedtime book that imagines all the wonderful ways a child might give and receive a hug.

Whether it’s a big bear, gasp for air, knock over a chair hug or a wet and drippy, slimy, slippy fish hug, children will giggle their way through all the imaginative examples. Cooney’s sweet and simple rhymes encourage playful interaction between parent and child and ultimately help them wind down before they snuggle into bed and drift off to sleep.

I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug is a sweet loving bedtime story book that is also sure to become a Valentine’s Day favorite for little ones who enjoy celebrating a day full of hugs and kisses from loved ones. I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug is available in hardcover for $16.99 in retail stores nationwide and online.

My Review:

Every day, up until my mother passed away last year, she would give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek before I went to bed or if I left the house.  I passed that gesture on to my kids and do it now, even with them being teenagers.  I'm not much of a hugger, but make sure my kids are given one each and every day.  It's a gesture of my love, and a reminder of a memory made with my mother.

With that said, I'm Going to Give You a Bear Hug! is a children's book that brings sweet sentiments about hugs.  The illustrations are adorable, with some showcasing what kind of hugs a fish, horse, sheep, bear, and other animals might give.  The story is told in rhythmic form, and is very catchy.  It doesn't take long to read but I can see it being a popular reading choice among children.  This book is at the top of the list for one of my favorites for younger kids.

One person will win a hardcover book copy of I'm Going To Give You a Bear Hug!

Draw and Color Your Way To A Younger Brain - Adult Coloring Book Review and Giveaway

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
I jumped on the adult coloring book craze some time ago.  I have quite a collection of books and coloring utensils.  I find that coloring is relaxing and therapeutic.  I'm much more at ease while I am coloring.

A recent study by Newcastle University, featured on BBC news, showed that art therapy has greater benefits than puzzles and exercises when it comes to improving memory function. Engaging the brain in new and creative ways may be the key to a sharper, younger mind.

As a passionate advocate of art therapy and graduate of Royal Holloway, bestselling illustrator Anastasia Catris is urging everyone to go beyond the recent calm coloring craze and train your brain as you copy, complete and color a series of animal creations with Draw and Color Your Way To A Younger Brain.  This adult coloring book will be available for purchase on January 24th, 2017.

With 176 pages, this adult coloring book is different from others in that it encourages you to color finished pages, but also encourages you to use your own imagination to finish what's been started.  For instance, it might prompt you to fill in a garden with beautiful flowers or fill the night sky with bats and stars.  I don't have very good drawing skills but have been enjoying coloring the completed pages in the book and taking the suggested prompts to add in my own designs.

The pages of this book are of good quality.  To prevent any bleed-through I don't use markers.  Rather, I've been coloring with pencils and gel pens.  There are pictures on both sides of each page.

I don't know that my brain is getting any younger by coloring in this book, but I know it's been a fun way to pass the time and I really like all the animal artwork.  The animals featured include both domesticated and wild species.

Win It!

One person will win a Draw and Color Your Way To A Younger Brain adult coloring book.

Cosmic and Eternal Love: An Everlasting Love Story - #amritasendesigns Review

I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Most of you know how much I love my adult coloring books.  I have quite the collection.  I find that coloring relaxes me.  A different kind of coloring book, Cosmic and Eternal Love: An Everlasting Love Story, contains a story with pictures to color.

Written by artist Amitra Sen, this book has 96 designs of India-themed patterns.  There's also story told of two people, with love as the focal point.  The pages of the book are glossy with very bold black and white illustrations.  I've found that markers work best when coloring within the book.

Accompanied with the book is a CD of musical compositions by Amitra Sen.  Modern pop and Bollywood are mixed together and you can sense how the book and music are tied together.  There is a lot of detail to color and the romantic tale is interesting.  I prefer most of my other coloring books over this one mostly because it's hard to color in this one due to the glossy pages, but it's still one that I will work on from time to time.

Manor House Vintage Solid Oak Chest - Review

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

I'm not a furniture snob by any means, but I tend to purchase pieces that will hold up over time. I've bought cabinets, nightstands and other pieces that haven't lasted very long because they are made of mostly particle board and cheap fixtures.

UK-based Oak Furniture Land has sturdy, aesthetically pleasing furniture. Their furniture is 100% solid hardwood at decent prices. They offer free shipping and the furniture is already fully assembled. And there’s no limits on style, with 25 designs ranging from Rustic, French Farmhouse, Mid-century Modern, and more - all of which can furnish the entire home.

I received a pair of High Back Grass Chairs with Solid Mango Legs on which I've already posted a review.  They're still used in my kitchen and I love their unique look.  I also received the Manor House Vintage Solid Oak Chest, and it's a beautiful statement piece for my master bedroom.

front and top view of oak chest

Before the oak chest arrived, I made arrangements with the company on the best delivery date and time. On the day of, a large semi stopped by with a box. They even carried the box inside for me and offered to set the chest where I wanted it.  I declined but appreciated the gesture. After opening the box, I noticed that the oak chest was fully assembled and all I had to do was place it in my bedroom.

There was a small snafu in the beginning.  Upon inspection, I noticed one of the hinges on the inside of the oak chest was broken.  I emailed my contact person and arrangements were made to have it fixed.  A service person came to my home within a fair amount of time and fixed it for me.
Inside View (This was when one of the hinges was broken but it is now fixed and working fine.)

I owned a cedar chest and had it for several years.  It was still in great shape on the inside, but the outside showed wear and tear.  I substituted it with my new Manor House Vintage Solid Oak Chest.  The chest features classic tongue-and-groove panels, and is made from 100% solid hardwood.  The inside is very spacious and now contains sentiments, mementos, awards, letters, and apparel from the last forty years of my life.  The top of the cedar chest stays open on its own by the hinges when it's fully raised.
I've got a real nice chest!  (ba-da-boom)

But, seriously, the craftsmanship and quality of the Manor House Vintage Solid Oak Chest is exceptional.

Created by Bare Tree Media, Emoji Trolls is available to download on the iTunes App Store and Google Play, and includes free Trolls stickers, as well as an assortment of 2D and 3D animated stickers for sale. Users can express their happiness by sharing photo stamps and stickers based on their favorite Trolls characters. The Emoji Trolls app is now available across leading mobile messaging platforms. After January 31st, the Hug Time stickers will be available for $1.99.
As you can tell, hugs aren't really my thing.

I'm not a hugger by nature and most people know it.  I have no qualms about hugging my close family.  I was raised by a mother who hugged me and kissed me on the cheek every night.  And I've always done the same to my kids.  But hugging other people, including friends, isn't much my style.  I've got personal space I want to preserve.  Maybe today, on National Hug Day, I'll break out of my shell and throw around some hugs.

What about you - Are you a hugger?

Bears for Humanity Baby Sherpa Bear - Review and Giveaway

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Valentine's Day is less than a month away.  The usual gifts tend to revolve around candy, flowers, and stuffed animals.  This year, why not get your loved one a gift that supports a cause.

Let your true love show this Valentines Day by giving to those in need while simultaneously giving to your loved ones.  With Bears for Humanity, a leading social commerce company, every organic plush animal purchased is matched and given to a child in need.

Bears For Humanity manufacturers a complete line of plush in the US using only 100% GOTS certified organic materials and Fair Trade practices, and are hand-made by at-risk women from welfare-work programs through CalWorks outside of San Francisco. When one purchases a bear or other plush animal, the company also donates another to a child in need.  It's a win-win!

I received the 12" Brown Teddy Bear from the Baby Sherpas Collection, and think it's simply adorable.  The bear is hand sewn in the USA, hypoallergenic, and made from 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton – there are no harmful plastics, chemicals, or dyes.  There are no detachable pieces so it's safe for younger children.  The eyes and nose are embroidered.  The bear has a worn, rugged look.  I have my teddy bear set on my entertainment center and think it's cute as can be.
Organic Stuffed Cat Animal Pal

If teddy bears aren't your thing, don't discount Bears for Humanity just yet.  They also sell Animal Pals.  There are fourteen different creatures to choose from, with some being a shark, dog, dinosaur, and elephant.  The Animal Pals are made from the same organic materials as their teddy bear friends.

It's National Winnie the Pooh Day

WINNIE THE POOH is our beloved ‘hunny’-loving bear.  Join in today to celebrate Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Piglet, Eeyore, and all of the classic characters you know and love.  In celebration, here's a recipe for a treat that's worthy of Hundred Acre Wood.

Winnie the Pooh Hunny Pot Cake Pops

Materials:

1 box cake mix (bake as directed on box for 13x9 cake)
1 16oz can of ready-made frosting
Wax paper
Baking sheets
Yellow candy coating
Purple candy coating
Brown rainbow chip sprinkles
Black edible ink pen
Toothpicks
Paper lollipop sticks
Styrofoam block

Instructions:

1.  After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into a large bowl.

2.  With a large spoon, mix thoroughly with about 3/4 of the can of frosting.  You won't need the rest.

3.  Roll mixture into quarter size cake balls and place on a wax paper covered baking sheet.

4.  Place cake balls in the freezer for about 15 minutes to firm up.  You can transfer them to the refrigerator to keep chilled and avoid freezing.

5.  Shape the cake balls into ovals for the Hunny pots.

6.  Return the cake pops to the refrigerator to maintain firmness.

7.  When you are ready to make the Hunny pots, melt the purple candy coating.  Insert a lollipop stick into the oval-shaped cake ball.  Dip into the candy coating so the cake ball is completely covered.  Remove and let most of the excess fall off and back into the bowl.  Then, place the cake pop on a wax-paper covered baking sheet.  Some of the coating will rest at the base forming the edge of the pot.  Repeat with the remaining pots and let dry completely.

8.  Once dry, you can add the "hunny".  Heat yellow candy coating and use a spoon to apply it to the top of the pots.  If you let it thicken for a few minutes, it will be less likely to run down the pot.  You want it thick enough to drip over the edge, but not too runny that it makes a mess.

9.  Let dry completely in a styrofoam block and write HUNNY on each pot with a black edible ink pen.  Reverse the direction of the first N for an extra Winnie the Pooh detail.

10.  Let dry completely.

11.  You can wrap in treat bags tied with a ribbon and/or store them on the counter or in an airtight container.

Who is your favorite Winnie the Pooh character?  My personal fave is Eeyore.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Bargains and Movies

Stacy Uncorked is still on a blog break but I'm continuing on with Random Tuesday Thoughts.  And, now on to this week's randomness....

I mentioned in last week's RTT that I was excited to see my boys dressed up for Homecoming.  Didn't happen.  The event was cancelled due to a possible ice storm.  The storm never happened and neither did Homecoming.  Guess there's always Prom.
----------------------
I don't shop at Wal-Mart unless absolutely necessary but I went in for their after-Christmas specials and fared quite well.  Rolls of wrapping paper were only 61 cents each.  And got my Christmas cards for next year at K-mart for less than a dollar.  Double store score!
--------------------------------
I spent a couple of hours in the ER Thursday night.  Had severe radiating pain at the base of my neck and down my arm.  The diagnosis was severe muscle spasms.  The cause is unknown.  Just what I need, something else to add to my list of health problems.
-----------------------------
Saturday afternoon we hung out with another couple and watched movies.  I love hanging out with them.  I can be laid back, and we can have fun doing whatever.  We ended up watching Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Legend of Tarzan.  Both were eh, okay.  Didn't hate them, didn't love them.
----------------------

My work always hosts an after-Christmas holiday party.  This year it was at Thyme Square, a local eatery.  It's the one time a year we get together and pretend we're all besties.  The food was out of this world.
--------------------
Welp, that's been my week.  What randomness have you got?
Seen any good movies lately?
Score any after-Christmas specials?

Freeze 24-7 Skin Blizzard Intensive Hydrating Facial Serum - Review

I received product for review from Freeze 24-7.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Although there's no fountain of youth, it's important to take care of your body and face with products that work. I know the reality of it, I'm not getting any younger. Wrinkles and under eye circles, along with lackluster skin, are starting to catch up with me. I don't believe any product can completely reverse the signs of aging but there are some out there that I've found to be beneficial in giving my skin a more youthful, radiant look. Recently I've been using Freeze 24-7 Skin Blizzard Intensive Hydrating Facial Serum.  I've had favorable results and I've noticed some improvement on my face.

I use the serum on my face once daily by dispensing a dime-size amount onto my fingertips and massaging onto my clean dry face.  The serum is clear, has no fragrance, and has a very silky feel to it.

The three key ingredients in the Freeze 24-7 Skin Blizzard Intensive Hydrating Facial Serum are:

HSC Complex - replenishes skin lipids and helps to restructure the skin,

RetiStar - a  stabilized form of Retinol which delivers Vitamin A to help promote healthier skin by boosting the skin renewal process.

Grapeseed Oil - Tones & tightens the skin while delivering Vitamins E, C and Beta-Carotene to moisturize, soften & soothe the skin.

I can say that this serum has given my face a more refreshed look and the glow that I've been seeking.  It's part of my beauty ritual that makes my skin feel good and gives it a nice gleam.

Keystone Meats All Natural Chicken - Review and Giveaway

I received products for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
Ingredients

Buffalo Chicken Dip is a recipe that I make often for parties and events.  Paired with crackers, vegetables or tortilla chips, it makes a hearty appetizer.  And, usually, there's none left to take home!

Ingredients

1 can Keystone All Natural Chicken

1 (8 oz. pkg.) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup hot sauce

1/2 cup blue cheese or ranch dressing

1/2 cup shredded cheese

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 350°F.

COMBINE all ingredients and spoon into shallow 1-quart baking dish. BAKE 20 minutes or until mixture is heated through; stir. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

For the first time when making this recipe, I used Keystone Meats All Natural Chicken.  It's the first I've heard of the company and I was keen on how their canned chicken tasted.  I'd definitely use it again in future recipes.  The chicken was delicious and there was plenty of it in the can.  The canned meat is convenient because the chicken is already cooked, and all I had to do was shred it up with a fork and heat it.  It eliminated any long process of cooking chicken.  I like that the only contained ingredients are chicken and sea salt.

Keystone Meats All Natural Chicken

Keystone Brand Meats has been in business since 1964 and they are known for their canned meats and soup bases.  Substitute Keystone Meats into any of your recipes that call for cooked chicken, cubed beef, pork, turkey, or ground beef.

Win It!

One person will win two cans of Keystone All Natural Chicken.

Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser - Review

I received product for review from Biore.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.
I wear a lot of makeup every day. I cover my face with powder, foundation, mascara, blush, and eye shadow. I want my face made up most of the time, but when I'm ready for bed I want a product that will wash all the cosmetics off, along with dirt and grime. I've been washing my face every night with Bioré® Baking Soda Pore Cleanser and have been pleased with the results. The liquid cleanser is formulated to clean and exfoliate dry, flaky skin.

After wetting your face, you just pump some of the cleanser on your hands and work into a foam.  Then massage over entire face.  I usually wait 2-3 minutes, then rinse it off.  I've had no harsh effects or skin reactions from this cleanser.  In fact, I can see and feel a true, deep clean after each use.

People Magazine teamed up with The Today Show to announce the Best Beauty Products of the Year Award winners for 2016, and Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser was named Best Exfoliating Cleanser.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Banquets and Birthdays

It's been a short bit since Stacy Uncorked has hosted Random Tuesday Thoughts.  I'm hoping it's just a temporary hiatus.  I'm still gonna play along and make up my own randomness.
------------------

It's another birthday for another kid!  I can't even deal.  How did they all grow up so fast?
Allyson turned 22 years old yesterday.  She has a beautiful, free-spirited soul and brings out such positive energy.  And her curls go on for days.

Shelby, our oldest, got hired on at Pepsi earlier in the week.  That makes three of them working for the same company.  First Logan and Adam, and now her.  Before long, we'll be owning the company!

Seniors on Cross Country team

Sunday we went to Logan's last Cross Country banquet.  The entire team was recognized for their achievements and the Seniors were presented with gifts.

Logan has had a few colleges take interest in him, and have offered athletic scholarships for Cross Country and Track.  All four years of running with blood, sweat and tears have paid off.  Now, we wait to see which college he's going with.

I come out from church the other day to find these magnets stuck on the hood of my vehicle.

There's some things that people know I'm particularly anal about and magnets are one of them.  And, this is what I get!

Logan with girlfriend, Whitney

The boys have been busy preparing for Homecoming next weekend.  Which, of course, means this mom is corralled into helping.  I'm most excited about this year's Homecoming because it's the first that Adam is going to.

Our conversation used to go like this:

Me - Adam, are you going to Homecoming or Prom this year?  It's your last chance.

Adam - Heck no.  I spend eight hours a day with these people.  Why would I pay to spend an evening with them?

Me - Because it's memories.  Memories that will last.

Adam - Nope.  And when have you ever seen me want to dress up?

So, I was shocked (and giddy inside) when he mentioned he would be going to Homecoming this year.  Girls - they'll make you change your mind every time!

Some time ago I got a large coloring poster from Five Below.  My hubby came up with the handy dandy idea to adhere it to our kitchen table.  Once it's all colored it, he will cover it with clear paint.  I've had help from a few friends getting it colored, but it's going to be a timely project.  Now, I just have to keep it clean from dirt and debris until it's finished.

What's your randomness for the week?  Hope you're having a good one.
