Thermacell Tick Control Tubes - Review

About three weeks ago I had been hanging out at a campground.  I came home later that day and ran my fingers through my hair.  Feeling a bump, I first thought it was dandruff.  I picked at it and the piece wouldn't come out of my hair.  After having my husband check, we found out it was a tick.  Luckily, it hadn't dug itself in very far so we were able to easily remove the nasty thing.

I'm not a fan of ticks and can't say I've ever come across someone who is.  I have yet to find an advantage to having them around.

West Nile, Triple E and Lyme, all vector borne illnesses, are thriving and so are Thermacell repellent products, keeping mosquitoes and ticks at bay.

One product that Thermacell carries to keep the tick population under control are Tick Control Tubes.  The 6-pack will protect a typical 1/4 acre property and will kill backyard ticks with Lyme disease.  There's no harm to kids, pets or the environment.

Using the Tick Control Tubes is super simple.  Just place them about ten yard apart, in places that mice like to hang out.  For instance, place one tube near a rotted stump and another near a stone wall.  The reason you want to place them were mice can find them is because young ticks feed primarily on mice.  Thermacell Tick Control Tubes are made from biodegradable cardboard filled with a specially treated material that kills ticks.  Mice seek out that material for their nests and collect it to line their nests deep underground.  Young ticks feeding on the mice encounter the material on the mice's fur and die.  The mice themselves don't; just the ticks.  It's actually doing the mice a favor because they have material for their nests and the ticks aren't feeding off them once they die.

Thermacell Tick Control Tubes were developed at Harvard University School of Public Health.  The tubes should be applied twice a year - once in late April and once in late July.

I can't personally vouch for an absolute fact that these tubes work.  But, like some things, you've got to trust that they do.  And, I'm quite okay with using Thermacell Tick Control Tubes and trusting that they'll kill off revolting, nasty ticks.

Softsoap Limited Edition Body Washes - Review

To help keep summer around a little longer, Softsoap has released two new Limited Edition variants that are sure to boost your mood and awaken your senses.  Both contain moisture rich formulas that keep your skin  hydrated, smooth, and radiant..

Softsoap Limited Edition Coastal Sunrise™ Moisturizing Body Wash

Awaken your senses with the new limited edition Coastal Sunrise™ moisturizing body wash. Watch the summer season bloom before your eyes, as the invigorated scent of Citrus Blossom surrounds you and the moisturizing formula leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

Softsoap Limited Edition Seaside Rush™ Moisturizing Body Wash

This summer, set sail with the new limited edition Seaside Rush™ moisturizing body wash. Celebrate the warmer weather with the refreshing scents of Lily & Bergamot, which will captivate your senses and leave skin feeling soft and radiant.

I've used Softsoap's liquid hand soaps and body washes several times. I like the fragrances and the way my skin gets clean.  I have a favorable impression of this brand and what it has to offer. Softsoap does well with their limited edition body wash releases, and these two new scents are a welcome addition.  Although I really like both fragrances, I think I prefer the citrus smell of the Coastal Sunrise body wash.

Both scents are available at Walmart for a limited time, until September 2018.  While using these Softsoap Limited Edition Body Washes, I am enveloped with nice scents. The flip-top lids are easy to open, and the body wash lathers up nicely. My family likes Softsoap because it doesn't irritate our skin and it gives our bodies a nice, clean feeling. Softsoap has a fair price point. Be sure to pick up your Softsoap Limited Edition Body Washes before time runs out!

Which of these two Softsoap fragrances would you most likely try - Coastal Sunrise or Seaside Rush?

Summer Concert with the Kids

I love that I'm still semi-sorta cool to my kids.  As teenagers and young adults, they still want to hang out with me sometimes.  Logan and Shelby wanted to go to a concert in St. Louis and invited me along.  Heck yeah!

Before we went, Logan had to clean his shoes with a toothbrush and dish soap.  I mean, nobody wants to attend a rock concert in dirty shoes!

We took my vehicle and I let Shelby drive.  Bigger cities give me anxiety.  She's a pro at maneuvering in and out of traffic.

If you're interested in reading where I got this shirt, read my recent Rosegal post.
I think it was well suited for a rock concert.

I was the back seat driver.  Shelby and Logan only rolled their eyes at me twice.  I count that a success.

We stopped at Denny's in Troy, MO before the concert.  I love, love, love Denny's and would go broke if there was one where I lived.  We went for the norm that day and just went for the Grand Slams.

After the concert we went through the drive-thru at Jack-in-the-Box.  The food was good, minus the fries they forgot to give us.  The customer service was atrocious.  I'm almost positive the food attendant got a whiff of the reefer that floated through the concert crowd.  Dude was higher than a kite and chillin' like a villain.  Didn't have a care in the world....including a care about our order.

When we got to the concert, Logan and Shelby played a game of Cornhole and both won bug spray and phone chargers.

Help me, I'm sweating like a stuck pig!

It was hotter than the seventh level of Hell when we got there.  Our seats were in SS which I'm sure translates to Smoldering Sun.  We completely missed the first band playing, Bad Wolves, because US Cellular mobile data sucks and our tickets were on our cellies.

After figuring out that fiasco, we settled in to watch Nothing More. I'd never heard of them before.  Most opening bands are crap but I was super impressed with this one.  They killed it!  I'd definitely pay to watch them again.

An intercession went on after they played so we went and bought inhumanely expensive drinks.  When we got back, we kinda cheated and took empty seats in the GG row.  It was 12 rows closer and under a fan.  Yeah, we're those people!

Next was Five Finger Death Punch.  I knew who they were but that's about it.  Wow, just wow!  They slayed it.  I didn't think it could get any better, but it did.  Breaking Benjamin came on for the last set and they rocked out with their socks out!

I've been to a handful of rock concerts in my time and I have to say this one was the best.  The music, the atmosphere, and the theatrics were out of this world.

As a semi-sorta side story, I know there's people of all walks of life at these concerts.  I don't judge.  EMS had their hands full with all the passed out people.  They won't be remembering the concert!  Anyhow, I actually prayed to sweet Jesus during the Breaking Benjamin set.  A dude that was tatted from head to toe stood in the seat behind us.  (forehead, eyebrows, chest, the works)  I swear he had no soul!  His eyes were blank and he didn't move.  Not once did he rock out.  I saw Satan's spawn in human form that night, and he freaked me out a little bit.  Other than that, it was a great time!

The Backstreet Meat Boys

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you The Backstreet Meat Boys.  MC Meat Smoker on your left and DJ Ribz Eye on your right.  They are available for events on a very limited basis.

You gotta season the meat real good and right.

When two guys decide they wanna smoke some meat, it's game on!  Brent and Jason spent 16 hours smoking ribs and pork loin.  It was serious business, with apricot and hickory wood over the fire.  No sleep and lots of coffee.

When all was said and done, they had two full slabs of ribs and more pulled pork than you could shake a stick at.  We had a group of about 10 people over to share in the bounty.  It was YummiTiScrumptilicious!

Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller - Review and Giveaway

Summer is here! That means picnics, baseball games, barbecues and all the fun of enjoying the great outdoors with your family. There’s one thing no one likes about being outdoors, though: mosquitoes! They not only are a nuisance, but they also pose potentially serious health risks.

West Nile, Triple E and now Lyme, vector borne illnesses are thriving and so are Thermacell repellent products, keeping mosquitoes and ticks at bay.  Revolutionary products by Thermacell Repellent Inc., are changing the landscape of the repellent industry by offering non-topical mosquito repellent options.

EPA registered for proven efficacy and safety, all Thermacells keep you from being bugged when trying to enjoy the outdoors by providing portable, scent-free and powerful mosquito protection.  New this season the Patio Shield.

The Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller is created to repel mosquitoes in a 15x15 foot zone of protection in minutes.  It is silent, virtually odor-free, and uses no open flame.  An instruction guide is included, and set-up is easy.  There are a few color options available, which I love because you can purchase one to match your outdoor decor.  I received the green Patio Shield.

To use the mosquito repellent, you need to remove one of the mats from the wrapper and insert it under the grill.  Then you need to insert the butane cartridge into the device.  Once that's done, rotate the base until the line points to the ON position.  After a few seconds, rotate the base to the START position.  An orange light will glow if it's properly activated.

There are three mats included with this kit, providing about four hours of repellency for each mat.  In other words, you're going to get about 12 hours of protection before you need to purchase another unit or purchase additional refill mats.  The mats will turn from pale blue to white when the mosquito repellent has been used up and needs to be replaced.  Takes the guesswork out of when to replace!

A small amount of vapor appears when the Patio Shield is in use.  This mosquito repeller seems to be helpful in keeping mosquitoes away. I don't find myself trying to slap them away near as often as I used to.  I can be outdoors and enjoy myself without worrying about getting eaten up by mosquitoes.  It's an added bonus that the Patio Shield has a slim, modern design.

Win It!

One person will win a Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller.

My Review:

I'd consider myself one of those people who like superheroes but I'm not a total fangirl.  My two oldest kids and son-in-law were first in line to see Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR in theaters.  I waited to see the Blu-ray.

Avengers: Infinity War is the first movie where all of the characters from previous Marvel movies are either mentioned or shown. It’s weird to think that now, after ten years from the start of Iron Man coming out, we are at a point where every superhero comes together for an action-packed movie.    Being able to watch this movie made me excited because I have been following along every Marvel movie, trying to piece things out along the way. Infinity Wars is that movie where you can put all of your theories to the test and see if they play out as you expected. Most people wondered how the Infinity stones would come together and they get to see this throughout the movie.

The beginning of the movie starts with Thor, Loki, the Hulk, and Heimdall on their ship in outer space when all of a sudden Thanos appears...  At first they seem confused of Thanos and think that they’re stronger but, in the end, find out the opposite. This is where the first death appears and Heimdall dies by Thanos’s hand. With this scene happening, it starts to grab the attention of the audience and gets their minds wondering of what could happen next. Who is next to die?  How will they stop Thanos? Who will stop Thanos?

Throughout the movie, there is an odd meeting of characters. For example, Iron Man and the Hulk meet up with Dr. Strange who they never knew existed. Another example is when the Guardians of the Galaxy crew meets up with Spiderman, Dr. Strange, and Iron Man. Now, that is a weird mixture to come together for a scene!

For the end of the movie, there are actually two endings.  One where Thanos gets all of the Infinity stones and snaps his fingers.  This causes half the population in the entire universe to disappear. The disappearance of beings is all by random selection and not by choice.  You don’t know unless you disappear into dust or someone you know does. I won't say who, but there are some disappointing and heartbreaking deaths!

With the end of the movie already leaving cliffhangers, you couldn't think there was anymore.  But wait… there is!!! The Captain Marvel symbol is shown and the audience is left with all kinds of questions.

I can see why people were so emotional after seeing this movie in theaters.  If you're a fan of superheros, I imagine you're going to be left with feelings of shock, sadness, and curiosity.  This movie definitely left me reeling, both with good and bad emotions.

Will you be adding Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR to your movie collection?
Who is your favorite superhero?

I believe in a God that hears prayers and answers them. I've witnessed the miraculous gift of answered prayer. And, I want to pray for you. I've started weekly Power of Prayer post every Thursday. We are now on week 134.  If you are needing prayer in an area of your life, please leave a comment and I'll commit to pray for your need or request. You can be as general or as specific as you like. Whether it be for healing, salvation, finances, emotions, or another area of life, I'd like to lift it up in prayer.

Step Parenting with Grace: Devotions for Blended Families - #StepparentingWithGrace Review

Book Overview:

Stepparenting with Grace offers a soothing salve and a holy nudge of daily encouragement for anyone navigating the unique dynamics of a blended family.
These devotions provide companionship, encouragement, understanding, and biblical insights from a veteran stepmom. This trusted resource will help you gain strength, wisdom, and comfort as you navigate the rocky terrain of creating a blended family.

You will learn how to:

Trust a loving God when the kids do not.
Find unity in your new marriage and parenting through grace and understanding.
Explore your worth in Christ amid rejection.
Gain confidence in the stepparent role as you take on the armor of God.
Persevere through challenges and obstacles toward healthy, thriving relationships.

Each devotion begins with Scripture along with an encouraging thought for the day and closes with prayer.

My  Personal Story:

As if raising kids of your own isn't hard enough, that responsibility is doubly hard as a step-parent.  Step-parents get a bad rap almost from the get-go.

Jason and I have been married for 15 years, together for sixteen.  He came in with three (actually two at the time with one on the way) and I came in with three.  We've never conceived a child together.  Minus the maid, we were the modern day Brady Bunch.  If Jason and I ever fought about anything, it was almost always about the kids.  And if he and I weren't arguing about it, we were going at it with the other parents involved.  Ugly, I tell ya!  I swore that if he and I ever got divorced, it for sure was going to be because of the blended family breakdown.

The first day my daughter met Jason she made it perfectly clear she didn't need another father in her life.  One day all six kids would like each other and the next day it was a war of mine versus his.  In all brutal honesty, it took a few years for us to mend the gap and just learn to all get along.  I can't change the past but, knowing what I know now, I would've walked into the relationship a totally different way.

It took a few years of complete chaos but we finally got it right.  His kids are mine and my kids are his.  We all get along and feel as if we are a complete family.

My Review:

First off, keep in mind that this is not a "self-help" book.  Step Parenting with Grace is a devotional with 90 devotions related to step-family life.  You can read the book starting at the first devotion or  you can use the Table of Contents to jump to a topic that speaks to you.

Just some of the topics covered in this devotional are:

Humility Encourages Harmony
Let God Heal Your Heart
Let Knowledge Override Your Feelings
Separate Marital and Parenting Issues
Moving Past Defeat
Acceptance is the Answer

I'm just going to put this out there:  You can read all the books and devotions you want BUT they're not going to work unless you apply the advice and information to your life. #Truth
If you read Step Parenting with Grace and really, truly process what the messages convey, I think it will be beneficial.

Whether you've been a step-parent for a while or a newbie to that part of life, Step Parenting with Grace is abundant with guidance and I'm sure there will be parts of the book that you'll definitely relate to.  This book lets you know you're not alone in your feelings, it provides plenty of Bible verses and prayers to be said, and it is a helping hand to those who are weaving their way through step-parenting.

Are you a step-parent?
Do you have any advice for someone involved in a step-parenting role?

I received book for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

My First (And Maybe Last) Online Shopping Experience with Rosegal

Earlier this summer I mentioned to a co-worker that I needed to purchase a new swimming suit.  The ones I had were well past their prime.  The gal mentioned two sites, one of them being Rosegal.  I'm not quite sure where the company is based out of but it's an online global shopping site.  From my perception, I liken it to Wish.com and OASAP.com.

One thing that drew me in to Rosegal is that they offer many fashionable clothes in fits for larger ladies.  Just because I'm bigger doesn't mean I want to dress exclusively in polka dots and florals.  #CanIGetAnAmen
When my Rosegal order was all done and over with I purchased two swimming suits, an anklet, and four blouses.

Does this make me a crazy cat lady?!

I won't give you details on each and every piece but just a generalized opinion on the clothing.  As for the one accessory I purchased - the anklet - it fit me just fine and is very pretty.  I have big ankles and was glad that it fit without feeling like a choker.  It's not high-quality but it doesn't look super cheap either.

I was sorely disappointed in the two swimming suits.  One was an asymmetrical one-side suit, meaning it had one shoulder strap.  My left boob fit in just fine but my right one wouldn't stay in the suit to save my soul.  I could've played Janet Jackson's role during the Super Bowl!  The other swimming suit had an open back and I looked like a beached whale.  The sizing was poor, but the quality of the suit seemed fine.  It would've been cute had it fit.

And, as luck would have it, Rosegal does returns on their stuff - minus swimsuits.  I ended up giving both of them to a friend.
Of the four blouses I purchased, I liked three out of four.  My favorite, of course, is the one with cute cat faces all over it!  Another is perfect for a rock concert or night club.  And the third is nice for church or a casual evening out.

I hated the fourth blouse.  The fit was fine but it had to of been made out of old parachute material.  I didn't know clothes were ever made in whatever fabric that was.  The site claims it's made out of cotton blend and polyester.  I call straight BS!

This blouse is sold out, so other people must like wearing parachutes.

I suppose it could be a win since I liked four out of the seven items.

The prices on apparel are pretty good.  And I love a lot of the designs offered.  I may be big, but I wanna look good.  Rosegal has that pinned down!

I'm horrible at returning things online, so I lost out on my money there.  I threw the cotton/polyester parachute shirt away and gave the swimming suits to a friend.

I'm very much on the fence as to whether I'd purchase from Rosegal again.  I'd like to think a second order would turn out better than the first, but I just don't know.

Have you ever purchased from Rosegal?
What plus-size online sites do you like?  (the ones that have apparel that doesn't cost a fortune)

Dinner for Dinos - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Book Overview:

Dinner doesn’t have to be a disaster - just ask the dinos! Your kiddos will love this silly story about a rambunctious crew of dinosaurs who are making mealtime extra fun while learning how to grow up healthy and strong by eating all sorts of yummy foods.

My Review:

If you're a parent, I'm sure you know all too well that sometimes we have to resort to "fun" or "unconventional" ways to get our kids to follow rules or do things right.  Kids seem to be more inclined to do those things when it involves silliness or fun.

A board book that uses rhythmic form, Dinner for Dinos is a short story about a group of dinosaurs who decide to have a picnic.  While at the grocery store, they learn why eating green foods is a good thing.  During the meals they learn how to set a table, fold their hands and pray, and use their manners.  Best of all, they have a good time doing it.

I'm sure it would take more than a book to get a kid to obey mealtime rules, but Dinner for Dinos is a cute and interesting way to show young ones proper etiquette.  The illustrated dinosaurs, along with the catchy words, will grab a child's attention.

Win It!

One person will win a Dinner for Dinos children's board book.
