Book Overview:
Elephant has a bucket of blocks and wants to build something tall. Something as tall as Elephant. But will it stay up? CRASH! BOOM! Not this time. Build it again? One block. Two blocks? Four blocks? It’s still not as tall as Elephant. More blocks! Now will it stay up? Now will it be as tall as Elephant? Build, balance, count — question, estimate, measure — predict, crash, and build again! Young children will happily follow along as Elephant goes through the ups and downs of creating something new and finally celebrates the joy and pride of success.
How do these blocks stack up? Gentle math concepts go down easy in this fun and accessible story for very young children by the esteemed Robie H. Harris.
My Review:
School is back in session for most and that means it's back to teaching young children the fundamentals of reading, match, science, and more. If you know of a child in the Preschool to Kindergarten age range and would like to work with them on math skills, CRASH! BOOM! A Math Tale is an entertaining picture book that will spur the momentum.
A hardcover book, CRASH! BOOM! A Math Tale features an illustrative blue elephant who is trying to build with blocks. The elephant counts up to four and is excited to see the blocks are as tall as him. Then, sadly, the blocks come crashing down. Elephant manipulates the blocks many different ways until he's able to stack them up as tall as him (eight high). He's excited and makes the blocks crash down around him intentionally.
This book can be a fun visual teaching tool to help young children count. They can either count the blocks on each page or read the numbers aloud that are printed on the pages. Other discussions offered are width, tallness, shortness, and how to stack blocks to make them less wobbly.
Win It!
One person will win a hardback book copy of CRASH! BOOM! A Math Tale.

I'd like to think I'm good with numbers.
Sadly, I am not good with numbers. I don't want to pass that along to my little ones, so I'm making an effort to inspire a love of math in them.
No, I am not good with numbers. I made good grades in math in school, but I had to work at it.
No, I can do basic math but that's it. I generally hate math.
I do not like math at all. I can't remember if my last comment posted or not, sorry.

I believe I am pretty good with numbers, as a kid I was sick and could not play outside so my dad would keep me occupied with math tricks and numbers

I enjoy math, but am getting a bit rusty!
I'm horrible with numbers. I'm actually very rare, and think I would have done well with common core math. It's more visual. I know many hate it.

I'm HORRIBLE with numbers! I can count 8 blocks though! Haha.
Seriously, I'm OK with basic life skills math I need to know and do fine but anything beyond that even if I start to grasp it, it disappears from my head within a day as if I had never been taught it at all.
I was good at most other subjects though!
I do NOT want to act like I don't like math though, I like to act like numbers are fun when our 5 kids were growing up and now around our young grandson so they have a better chance of liking numbers and math.
I am not good with numbers and always avoided math. My oldest son is really good at math (got that from his daddy) and so I'm curious if my youngest will have math skills like me or his dad.

I have the basics down. Other than that- I've never been interested in higher mathematics.
I have never been very good with numbers, but I think I'm actually getting better as the years go by (and as I've helped my own kids with homework & listened to them explain them to me!). I hope my young niece will have an easier time with them!

I'm "eh" with numbers. I can figure out what I need to, but I'm not one of those people who can look at a problem and just know the answer.
