The Biggest Win: Pro Football Players Tackle Faith - Book Review

About the Book:

The Biggest Win gives athletes and sports fans of all ages a unique, insider’s look into the lives and faith of six Christian NFL players from the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl team—Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, Jordan Hicks, and Chris Maragos. Through the ups and downs of their experiences, author Joshua Cooley shows how these high-profile athletes remain committed to God’s Word, genuine Christian discipleship, and sharing their faith.

The Biggest Win combines biblical truths with practical direction on issues that every Christian faces—including dealing with adversity, competition, change, success, failure, and how to thrive by faith in a pressurized world. Encouraging male and female athletes in any sport, The Biggest Win guides them in finding their ultimate identity in Christ, not their athletic achievements, and assures them that their greatest prize is eternal life.

About the Author:

Joshua Cooley is a sportswriting veteran of twenty-plus years for various print and online publications, including Sports Illustrated, FCA Magazine, Sports Spectrum, Orioles Magazine, Clubhouse, and Highlights. He is also the author of The One Year Devotions with Jesus and the Heroes of the Bible Devotional, among other books. My Review:

I know the basics of football but that's about it.  I'm not big on the sport, but I am big in my faith.  Whether you're an athlete or not, The Biggest Win is a good resource for advice and guidance on how to grow stronger in your Christian faith.  Each chapter covers a different topic.  For instance, one chapter talks about training to win and another talks about being motivated by glory.

I did not know that the Philadelphia Eagles are a football team that largely walks in the Christian faith.  They gather regularly for Bible study and are not afraid to openly talk about their faith.  Although The Biggest Win revolves around a well-known football team, the stories will resonate with athletes of any level and Christians of any level.  Each chapter ends with "Questions for Reflection".  One example of that is "How are you seeking to serve others out of the "overflow" of your own spiritual training?"  Another example is "How are your trails revealing aspects of God's character that you never considered before?"

Using Biblical teachings and scripture, The Biggest Win is a book that will help you win at being a follower of Christ.

I received book for review from New Growth Press.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

This sounds like a great book. Like you I'm not big on football but I'm big on my faith. I do enjoy reading faith based books of all kinds. My brother in law is a sports fanatic so he would love this. When I see Christian ball players on the 700 Club I just love hearing their stories on how they became Christians and how when they win or lose they give God the glory for giving them the chance to do what they love.I think ball players are a bit overpaid. Just saying....

Hi Sue, thanks for your interest in my book. I think you and your brother-in-law and anyone else you know who is an athlete or a sports fan looking to grow in their faith will enjoy The Biggest Win. It's a powerful area of our lives that we can use to glorify God (1 Cor. 10:31)! -- Josh
