Wordful Wednesday - Love the Q: Equestrian Team - #ForQuincy

Last Saturday our church was part of a big event called Love the Q.  Over 600 volunteers from our church went out into the community and worked at 45 locations.  I'll be posting about Love the Q in the next few days.  For one, I want to remember it all.  For two, it left a huge impact on our community.  Thirdly, it might give you an idea or two of something you can do to help your neighbors.

Our church has an Equestrian team of animals that they bring out into the community and events throughout the year.  It's grown into more than just horses.  Cats, rabbits, dogs, and goats are also a part of the team.

During the Love the Q event, the Equestrian team first visited the Illinois Veterans Home (which is the site I also volunteered at).  The veteran residents were able to pet and love on the animals.

Later in the day, the animals were at City Hall so people could stop and see them.  And, just a couple of days later, the team took the animals to a Memory Assisted Living Facility for the elderly residents to see.  Their faces lit up like Christmas trees, and several of the elderly residents even got to take a ride on the bigger horses.

Of all the animals, Stormy the kitty was my favorite.  I wanted to snuggle him, and pet him, and call him George. (TV cartoon reference)

I love that our Equestrian team goes out in to the community and shows the love of Jesus through the animals.  It also fosters responsibility and commitment to the younger ones who are volunteers of the team.

That is such a great idea. I like the nursing home could pet and ride some animals.

Just don't squeeze Stormy too much or he won't move no more--I totally get that cartoon reference, and I think we are telling our age :)
That is a handsome goat. And how fabulous that these animals visit the assisted living facility. I can imagine they were a welcome sight. Adults love petting zoos too, or at least I do anyway.

Such a lovely volunteer group, i’m so glad you are able to do that. And if you name him George, you have to love him and squeeze him and pet him and pat him!

I love that the animals are used to spread the word and bring happiness. Very cool they let the elderly residents ride the horses too!
