author/illustrator: Leslie Patricelli
Release Date: February 2019
Book Overview:
For Lily, it’s the worst first day of school ever. Who would want to be friends with the new girl, whose debut act is to throw up on the playground (on somebody’s shoes!)? Fortunately, quirky Darby comes to the rescue. Darby likes frogs and candy and oddball stuff, and soon she and Lily have formed their own club — the Rizzlerunk Club. But before you can say “BFF,” Darby’s former best friend, mean-spirited Jill — who had moved to London — returns unexpectedly. Can Lily and Darby’s friendship survive the British invasion? Peppered with charming illustrations and hilarious mishaps involving “conjoined” frogs, accidentally shaved eyebrows, and school pranks gone awry, this engaging tale of fourth-grade life will have readers wishing they could join the Rizzlerunk Club for real.
In her first novel, illustrated in her inimitable style, Leslie Patricelli hits all the humorous ups and downs of being the new kid at school, navigating complicated friendships, and standing up to frenemies.
My Review:
I read this book after first letting my 12 yoa granddaughter read it. I wanted to get her take and see if our opinions were the same. Best Buds Under Frogs is a merry story of Lily and her 4th Grade school year. She's the new kid in school, and things don't start off on a good note. A girl named Darby becomes her friend and they share the antics of life together. All is well until Darby's previous BFF comes back to the school. Jill isn't near as nice as Darby and creates quite the conundrums. Lily is forced to make some important decisions.
This hardback book, with scribbly black and white illustrations, resonates to those in middle school. There's an overall moral compass of standing up for what's right but it's told in laughable detail. My granddaughter and I both enjoyed this book and hope more books about The Rizzlerunk Club are written.
One person will win a hardcover book copy of The Rizzlerunk Club: Best Buds Under Frogs.

They were okay - pretty much uneventful.
"Leave a comment on this blog post with whether or not you enjoyed your middle school years." Over the course of my three years in middle school (it was a three-year middle school, I was not held back) I believe I experienced occasional moments of happiness.
I liked socializing in middle school and some of my elective classes, but overall, I much preferred NOT going to school and starting skipping classes or days once in a while, which became much more often as I got older.
I hated those years. I was such an odd ball and did not fit in anywhere.
Overall, I did enjoy my middle school years.

It was junior high back then and I did for the most part.
Not so much, as my parents were going through a divorce at the time, and I remember as being a painful time in my life.

Some days it was okay but I didnt really like school that much.
I loved 6th grade before I went to middle school, but now is considered middle school in many districts. I disliked actual middle school years that I had though.
Yes, I enjoyed all my years of school - although I was teased like many others, we were a small enough school that most remained friends even today.....many years later.
