We Are the Gardeners - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Book Overview:

*Ages 4-8

*You and your children can learn all about the Gaines family's story of becoming gardeners in Joanna's first children’s book—starting with the first little fern Chip bought for Jo. Over the years, the family's love for gardening blossomed into what is now a beautiful, bustling garden.

*Julianna Swaney’s illustrations bring the Gaines family garden to life with colorful, whimsical watercolors and invite you to enjoy the beauty of a thriving garden.

My Review:

You may be familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines of "Fixer Upper" television fame.  They are also well known for their products and designs on Magnolia.  I'm not an ultimate fangirl of the couple but am somewhat familiar with their celebrity status and personal life.

Joanna Gaines, along with her children, have debuted a new children's book that came out in March 2019.  This hardcover book has several enlightening messages.  One is that you shouldn't give up on something even if it seems like a failure.  You should believe in yourself and your efforts.  The second takeaway is a general idea of how gardening works.  Kids will learn that ladybugs protect plants from harm and that weeks can ruin plants if not taken care of quickly.  Another story notation is that the family is working together to cultivate gardens and love.  The similarities between the messages are woven together quite nicely.

Win It!

One person will win We Are the Gardeners children's book.

I use to plant gardens but health issues keep me from doing it now. My sons do a lot of gardening with my grandsons now.

I live in a condo where we have plants in pots and I have a rosemary plant in my kitchen. I like fresh herbs--especially rosemary. My sister has a garden where she has fresh veggies and fruit for her young children thru the summer months.

I have a green thumb and enjoy planting flowers.

We plant gardens - and each year the squirrels enjoy our harvest, not us. To be honest, I keep trying to convince my husband it is a waste of $$ to plant, but he persists. I do enjoy planting flowers, although my thumb is light green at best.

"Leave a comment on this blog post with whether or not you plant gardens. Do you have a green thumb?" I plant some little garden areas where we live, but I'm amazed by how weeds like to move in! I've put down sheets of plastic in various areas, so there's no way weeds could grow (I think), and they still start growing! It's like a horror film!

In the house before this I had a gorgeous balcony vegetable garden. But here nothing seems to grow. It makes me so sad.

I do plant a garden and I have many indoor plants as well. I have a green thumb but growing in an apartment setting is challenging.

I don't garden as I live in an apartment with no place to plant anything. My family used to have a garden when I was growing up. :)

I tend to kill what I grow. That doesn't stop me from trying though.

I enjoy planting a garden every spring. This year I will have to do container gardens so my son's puppies don't dig all my plants out.

I don't have a green thumb, and haven't planted a garden in many years. But my sister-in-law always does, and my niece would love this!
