Cheers to Dollar Tree DIY Halloween Fun

Dollar Tree is one of my favorite places to shop for seasonal items.  And, every once in a while, I get to feelin' crafty and go to Dollar Tree to pick up the needed stuff.

With Halloween being my favorite time to decorate, I've been going overboard on decor and making fun things.  Dollar Tree has been so much fun to shop for all things creepy, crafty, and Halloweeny.

Last year I purchased wire baskets from Dollar Tree, zip-tied them together to look like cages, and added Halloween decorations.  This year I purchased black pool noodles, dripped hot glue on them to resemble wax, and added accessories to create fake Halloween candles.

Do you decorate for Halloween or Fall?

Do you tend to gravitate towards scary decor or more cutesy stuff?

What items to you usually purchase from Dollar Tree?

Snicker Salad - Dessert Recipe

A few years ago a gal pal introduced me to Snicker Salad.  My taste buds thank her, and my thighs show their appreciation.

Snicker Salad is a simple dessert recipe that goes over quite well anytime I make it.  I've seen several variations for this recipe but this is how I tend to prepare the dessert.

1 carton (12 ounces) Cool Whip, softened

1 package Cream Cheese, softened

3 large apples, chopped

4 Snickers candy bars, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

Directions:

In a large bowl, whisk Cool Whip and cream cheese together.  Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set. Fold in apples and candy bars. Refrigerate until serving.

Ballsy: Plague Sprayer Hand Sanitizer - Review

Let's just face it: hand sanitizer is one of the few things that have become a staple in our household.  With the COVID pandemic, hand sanitizer is on the uprise.  If you want a product with cool packaging that is effective, consider Plague Sprayer by Ballsy.

This FDA Approved Formula contains 70% Germ Murdering USP Ethyl Alcohol and features soothing aloe.  It has no fragrance and is made in the USA. 25% of profits are donated to Direct Relief supporting health care workers

The squeeze bottle is easy to use and the sanitizer itself isn't sticky or icky. There's no fragrance or smell to it.  Although Ballsy is a "manly" company with "manly" merchandise, I have no problem using this cool hand sanitizer myself.

I received product for review.  The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products or using services.  Your opinions and results may differ.

Tribute to my Brother-In-Law

casket built by the Amish, made out of barn wood

Less than two weeks ago, I received the terrible news that my brother-in-law, Dean, had passed away.  I won't get into politics here but his death was ruled as COVID, while we believe it was a heart attack.  Either way, he's no longer with us.

Dean is buried in the same small cemetery as my father and step-mother

Dean was married to my sister for 30 years, meaning I've known the man that long.  He was a country man through and through.  He worked many, many hours in the field or at the Co-op. Dean was a man of few words, but a big heart.

It was like a Thanksgiving feast for an army

My favorite memory of Dean is when I was a teenager.  Me and my niece spent many weekends at his home.  She and I would go places to hang out, then spend the night there.  We were late for curfew one night, and wanted to go out the next night.  Dean's punishment for us being late was for us to wash and wax his combine.  Heather and I spent hours upon hours cleaning that thing.  Once Dean was satisfied, he let us go out again that night.  After that, we were  never late again!

shooting guns at the cemetery

My heart breaks for my sister.  Dean collapsed and died in her arms.  He was her other half and now she's in the family home, alone.

I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout for the visitation and funeral.  I, myself, waited in line for over an hour and a half just at the visitation.  The Amish and Mennonite even showed up to pay their respects.  Sandy and Dean live in the middle of  God's country and are one of the few "English" folk around.  They made friends throughout the years with the Amish community.

Chemical Sprayer that Dean drove for many years

During Dean's funeral procession, his Chemical Sprayer led the way for "one last ride".  Rifle shots were fired during the graveside ceremony in remembrance.  Dinner afterwards was served at the local fairgrounds.  There was so much food, donated by the church and the Amish.

A good, hard-working man left this earth too soon.  You'll always be remembered, Dean.

Take Back Your Life A 40 Day Devotional - #FlyBy #TakeBackYourLife Review and Giveaway

Book Overview:

Every person has a mission and a God-given potential to impact the world, whether they recognize it or not. But life presents challenges and traps us in a helpless, hopeless loop of anxiety and fear.

In Take Back Your Life, a blend of bestselling books Through the Eyes of a Lion and I Declare War, join Levi Lusko on an interactive journey to take back your life. With biblical truth and perspective, this step-by-step journaling process will help you:

get out of your own way by learning to think right so you can live right,

find purpose by discovering that God will do great things with your imperfect progress, and

learn that your pain is not an obstacle to being used by God but an opportunity to be used like never before.

This is more than a book; it’s an intimate self-analysis tool that will help you recognize what’s weighing you down or holding you back, and equip you to embrace it head-on as you become the best version of yourself. Start thinking right, so you can live right.

Author Bio:

Levi Lusko is the founder and lead pastor of Fresh Life Church, located in Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Utah. He is the bestselling author of Through the Eyes of a Lion, Swipe Right, and I Declare War. Levi also travels the world speaking about Jesus. He and his wife, Jennie, have one son, Lennox, and four daughters: Alivia, Daisy, Clover, and Lenya, who is in heaven.

My Review:

I'll be honest, I'm not very good at reading the Bible in and of itself.  As much as I would like to, I find it hard to focus and understand what's going on within the scripture.  That's why I rely a lot on devotionals and Bible studies.

One devotional that I've been using is Take Back Your Life.  It has been a valuable resource for scripture, insight, prayer, and praise.  Taking half an hour to an hour each day and reading each day's lessons has brought me a lot of clarity.  I've also learned so much about myself and what God wants from me.

This book has so much more than lessons.  There's scripture to read, prayer and journaling prompts, and questions to ponder.  There's even a ribbon bookmark to keep your place.  I'm going to keep this devotional and continue to read it to reflect upon in the future and during times of struggle.

This book will be most helpful if you take the time to read it, write in it, meditate on it, and pray over it.  Don't just skim the pages; Put them to use and apply what you've learned to your life.

Win It!

THE SUMMER OF '98 - Book Review

Book Overview:

Before Drayton and Dallas, there was Ellie and Leroy . . .

With the prequel to her smash hit The QB Bad Boy and Me, rising star Tay Marley returns to tell the story of Drayton’s parents and the summer that changed everything . . .

Sometimes home isn’t a place, it’s a person. From the moment their eyes met, Ellie knew he would be her destiny. Handsome and ripped, there’s just something about Leroy Lehay, Baylor University’s soon-to-be star quarterback, that makes him impossible to resist.

Consumed by a passion neither one of them can quite understand, Leroy and Ellie spend the summer together. Left senseless and overwhelmed by his touch, Ellie experiences a world of desire she could never have imagined.

Safe in Leroy’s arms, Ellie begins to see a life beyond high school: going to college, starting her own business, having a family. But when life-altering news shakes them to their cores, Leroy and Ellie must discover if their passion is enough to help them get through what might possibly be the greatest challenge of their lives.

My Review:

For me, I was spending the Summer of '98 giving birth to my second child.  And that was at the age of 21!  But I digress...

A book intended for teens and young adults, The Summer of '98 tells of how two people meet up and fall in love rather quickly.  Ellie and Leroy then spend most of the summer together at his hometown.  Then, something happens that rocks their world and tests their love.

There's so much I liked about this book, and so much I didn't like.  Due to racy content and language, I'd definitely recommend this for the older teen crowd.  I wouldn't let my young teenager read it.  Even though I was doing a lot of things that Ellie and Leroy were doing at their age, I don't necessarily feel it's appropriate to lay it all out like that.  For starters, Ellie gives up her virginity to Leroy the first night they meet because she's so sure "he's the one".  Secondly, the sex scenes are a little too raunchy for the crowd it's intended for.

With that said, I liked the overall story line of the book and could relate to a lot of it.  I found myself more interested in Leroy's brother, Noah.  He seemed like a more complex character with raw feelings.  His on-again, off-again girlfriend was also quite relatable.  I could see a lot of teenagers, especially girls, having the same complicated feelings and emotions that she does in the book.

25 Forty: Christian Tees and Wall Prints - Review and Giveaway

I don't consider myself overly religious but I am strong in my faith. I may not throw a Bible or spew scripture at you, but I will never deny my Christian belief.  25 Forty, a producer of Christian tees and gifts, proclaims the Good news of Christ to the world through merchandise that focuses on the Matthew 25:40 verse. For those not familiar with the Bible scripture, it is “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Rustic Boast in The Lord 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 Christian Wall Art Print

That particular verse, for me, says that we are doing God's work when we help those in need.  25 Forty is a company that carries through with that by giving $5 for every purchase to a non-profit organization, Matthew 25 Ministries.

I did a review and giveaway for 25 Forty in 2014.  Since then, the company has expanded their line of products.  I was given the opportunity to see and try some of their new items since I first found out about the company.

I received five tshirts from 25 Forty, all with visual words of the Matthew 25:40 verse either by design or in the tag area.  All shirts are made of 100% ring spun cotton.  Because of the material and knowing the tees  would shrink in the wash, I ordered up one size.  I'm impressed with the quality of the shirts, as well as the quality of the messages on them.  The tees that 25 Forty carries are a positive way to show your love for Jesus and show others the importance of helping others in need.

25 Forty takes the extra step and rolls their tees in pretty packaging for shipping

25 Forty has expanded its line from just tshirts to include wall art prints.  Each GiclĂ©e print is made with fine quality paper.  Frames are not included.  I've made a photo collage in my guest bathroom by hanging the prints artfully with colored tacks.

25 Forty offers free shipping on all orders through USPS, with no code or minimum required.  The company is based out of Texas.  I know it's a small company but I think they're helping make a big impact.

Win It!

Five people will each win a tshirt and art print of choice from 25 Forty.

CBD Living Sparkling Water - Review and Giveaway

It's become quite the trend to infuse products with CBD.  It allegedly touts pain-relieving, anxiety-reducing, relaxation-promoting benefits.

CBD Living is a global CBD manufacturer and distributor dedicated to creating high-quality CBD products that fit in with everyone’s lifestyles, from Gel Capsules you can easily take at the same time as your daily multivitamins, to Bath Bombs for winding down at the end of a long day or CBD Living Water to hydrate - and relax - on the go.

CBD Living is not a "get high" company.  Their products will not alter your mental state or give you a feeling of being high.  Their products do not contain THC, the stuff that gives you the altered state of mind.  These products contain CBD, the stuff that relaxes you and alleviates pain.

I won't make any medical claims regarding the CBD products and I can't guarantee they'd solve your problems. What I can say is that I'll continue taking them because I've noticed a positive change in how my body feels.

The kids are on summer break, which means one thing - YOU’RE not going to be getting a break anytime soon, and self-care is usually the first thing to go out the window. While you’re running around this summer, make sure you stay hydrated. New CBD Living Sparkling Water combines 25 mg of nano-CBD with Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 for extra energy, and is available in four tantalizing flavors you won’t see anywhere else (Orange Grapefruit, Peach Honey, Strawberry Lavender and Apple Ginger). Each flavor is also vegan, gluten-free and certified Kosher, and contains absolutely zero THC.  My husband and I have both been drinking CBD Living Sparkling Water.  It's refreshing during the hot weather and we like the flavors.  My favorite is Strawberry Lavender.

One person will win all four flavors of CBD Living Sparkling Water.

The Miss Olive Book Winner Is...

Kinda in Quarantine Due to COVID

Unless you want to shell out a pretty penny, you can't buy a kayak around here.  With COVID, kayak sales have skyrocketed (along with pools and trampolines).  My hubby got lucky and was able to find me one in May at a fair price.

Well, I took my kayak out for the fifth time since getting it in May.  Except this go round, it caused a conundrum.

Last Tuesday I went out on the lake with a friend who's a deputy.  We didn't swap slobbers.  We took our own vehicles.  Rode in our own kayaks.  Stayed our distance for the most part.

Two days later, she finds out her husband has the 'Rona (along with several of his workmates).  For obvious reasons, she's been put in Quarantine.  She won't be tested unless signs of sickness show up.  Fast forward to Saturday, she's called to let me know since she and I were around each other.

To give a heads up, I call my supervisor at work to let her know.  I figured she'd tell me to just keep an eye out and let them know if I show any symptoms.  But, after she calls the health department, they want me to stay away from work until August 12th.  It's out of an overabundance of caution.  Guess if I get it and bring COVID in to work, we'll go down like a sinking ship.  We're already short-staffed as it is.  So, I get the logic behind it.  Here's hoping I don't get the crap and can get house clean for the next several days I'm off work.

How have you been affected by COVID-19?
Were you able to get a kayak before they started selling like hot cakes?

Chalk of the Town - #mychalkofthetown Tshirt Review

We are in a movement of expressing our opinions with no fear and speaking loudly about our passions.  We want others to know how we feel and where we stand on issues.  Whether being serious or silly, one way you can express yourself is with Chalk of the Town.

I received a Chalk of the Town Chalkboard T-shirt Kit for review.  I've worn it a couple of times, most recently as a fundraiser for the church.  We were selling Strawberry Shake-Ups and, along with other advertising, I wore this t-shirt as part of the sales pitch.

The t-shirts from Chalk of the Town are durable, machine washable and re-useable.  Each kit comes with three water-based markers.  You can draw or write on the chalkboard surface area of the t-shirt with the markers.  When you want create a new saying, just erase the chalkboard, dampen a cloth, and wipe the surface clean.  There's so many uses and occasions for this kind of shirt.

I received an adult XL size which I usually wear and it was true to size.  Chalk of the Town sells youth, adult, and ladies t-shirts as well as totes, kits, stencils and chalk markers.  It's a fun way to express yourself!

Memorial Day Weekend at Woodyz Acres

cooking hot dogs and brats over the campfire

Just a "few" days late but wanted to post about Memorial Day weekend (if only for my memories).  Several (and I mean several) of us went to Woodyz Acres campground in New London, MO for a three-night stay.  We had seven people and two dogs in our pop-up alone.

finished diamond art

I found this Easter TP at a thrift store and brought it.  I ended up hanging the roll in the women's communal campground bathroom.  #HolidayConfusion

The first night was spent setting up camp and hanging out.  We played several games of Quarters and had our fair share of drinks.  The next couple days were hotter than Hades but we managed to have a
good time.

Emily playing a game of Solitaire

Throughout the weekend, we played old-fashioned Bingo, created art with mini diamond art kits, played card games and Quarters, and rode on golf carts.  We also cooked an overabundance of food, swam in the pool, and played putt putt golf.  It was one of my favorite Memorial Day weekends ever.
