How We're Keeping Busy During Social Distancing

Bristol having a good ear day

Just like darn near everyone else, we're in sort of a lockdown.  The state of IL has ordered a "stay at home" mandate.  We can still go out, but not hang out.  All non-essential businesses have closed.  As a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, I'm considered an Essential Employee so I'm still doing the night shift.  As you can imagine, it's been slower than usual.  The weekend bar fights have ceased, so that's a plus!

Jason and I have been keeping occupied working on a few projects around the home.

Jason built me, my oldest daughter, and my sister easels so it's easier to work on our diamond art kits.  He has three more to build for other friends.

I've been working forever and a day on this diamond art kit.

I repurposed this standing photo frame.  My mom purchased it for me over 15 years ago.  The frames got jank over time so I took them out and stapled twine to each section.  Then I hung pictures to the twine with miniature clothespins.

Our big project has involved ripping the carpet out of the office room and guest room.  We replaced it with vinyl wood.  It's so much prettier (and easier to clean).  If we keep in quarantine much longer, we're going to start on ripping the carpet out of the front room and replacing the flooring.

So, as you can see, we've been productive.  Training a pup has kept us busy too!  But, I have to admit, I'm ready to start hanging out with my homies again.  I'm getting socially needy.

How have you been keeping busy?
How has the COVID-19 affected you?

It's a tough time for everyone right. The important thing right now is for all of us to help in any way that we can to flatten the curve.

I'm still at work. I don't think I'm "essential", but I want to keep my job. My students are all gone. We moved to doing things online with them. I could easily do it from home. They insist we be here, to try and have as normal of a workday as possible. My husband did make an ottoman. It was my idea, so I'm taking some credit. I went through, and shredded tons of papers. Then I've been trying to keep things clean.

It looks like you're keeping busy! Now that we're homeschooling, we don't really have much time for house projects like I had hoped!

I'm working from home, which is going alright. It's definitely weird being pretty much STUCK in the house though. Ooh I love your easels. That should be handy for your diamond art.

I am in the process of getting rid of carpet too & replacing it with wood.

That's good to hear that the emergency calls are down now.

We've done a lot of home improvement projects too. Thankfully, we bought everything we needed before lock down went into place. We'll be selling our house by summer *hopefully* so we are using this time to get it in tip top shape before it goes on the market.
