February was American Heart Month, but it's important to have heart healthy habits all year long. Heart disease runs in my family, so I'm always conscious of doing my best to help alleviate heart problems. Although I'm not strict with my diet, I read labels and try to go for foods that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol. I also exercise three times a week by either doing cardio workouts or on-skate roller derby drills. Although my kids like to veg out from time to time, I ensure they get off the couch and exercise or participate in rigorous play. There's no guarantee to what will happen in life, but taking the proper steps helps prevent heart disease from affecting our lives.
