Award-winning author and photographer David FitzSimmons has a unique approach to animal portraiture, and he loves sharing it with kids. Instead of seeking rare animals in exotic locations, David photographs common animals—many found in your own back yard—against plain, white backgrounds, producing detailed close up images that are simply striking. Volume one of “Curious Critters” won five national book awards.
The Curious Critters picture books also features additional natural history information for each Critter and a two-page spread of life-size silhouettes—where readers are asked to identify Critters, find one whose shape has changed, test geometry skills in looking for reversed silhouettes, and figure out what the various colors represent. The book also includes a glossary.
Curious Critters: Volume One and Curious Critters: Volume Two are fascinating hardback books with a wealth of enlightenment on critters of all kinds. Readers learn behaviors and habits of insects, amphibians, and mammals. There's plenty of information about each critter, but no so much the reader feels bogged down or bored. The tongue-in-cheek writing style and stunning photography draws the reader in. We learned more on critters we were already aware of and we were introduced to critters we'd never heard of. The glossary shows photos of each critter from the book and further expands details on them. Both books are very interesting and visually impressive.
Win It!
Two people will each win a hardback book copy of Curious Critters: Volume Two. (ARV $19.95)

Many years ago we moved to our property and we used to see Horned Toads, and I thought they were so unusual, hardly see them now, guess my animals have scared them away, but I would love to know more about them.
I curious about bats. I would love to figure out how to put up a bathouse in my yard, but I think you have to climb very high in the trees and I can't do that!
