St. Patty's Parade with DRDC

Every year on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day the town I live in hosts a St. Patty's Day Parade. The only qualification for entrants is that they either wear green or decorate in green. I've never been to the parade or in it. This year I was a part of the parade along with some of my roller derby team.

Two of my teens, Shelby and Adam, led our group by carrying the DRDC (Dark River Derby Coalition) banner.

My husband's truck was decorated and used along the route for kids to ride in and for our gear bags.

Tarra Lip-Off

De Funk Shawn and Coach (also my brother)
Some members chose to walk while others decided to skate. All the skaters were required to wear full gear (mouthguards, helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards). Anytime we're on skates, even for a fun event, we must gear up.
When I'm in full gear, I'm not easily recognizable. That was the case during the parade. My two nieces, who I stopped to take a picture with, had NO clue who I was. Can't say as I blame the kids. My helmet makes me look goofy and the mouthguard makes it look like I have meth mouth! (I bought a new mouthguard yesterday that's purple and a lot less bulky).

I only fell three times, and that was before the parade. It was hard adjusting to skating on a street versus skating in a rink. All in all, I had a good time.

Whether you're celebrating your Irish heritage or going out for green beer, I wish you a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day!

We were at a parade yesterday, too, but we were all bundled up in winter coats because it was FREEZING here lol.

You know, they brought in some derby girls at our parade this year, and I thought of you as they were whizzing by! How cool that you got to participate in the parade this year!

What a fun time!

I love they didn't recognize you. Can't wait to see your new mouth guard.

Aw, how fun!! I was just reading this thinking to myself, 'I really hope they got to skate through the parade.' And of course decorating in all green is a MUST for the holiday ^.^
