If you have a kid (or a husband who's a kid at heart), consider the Fly Trap Plant Cube as a way to entertain and educate.
The Venus Fly Trap plant is an interesting organism that's known to grow jaws that miraculously snap shut on its prey. Like all plants, Fly Traps use sunlight to produce energy through photosynthesis. However, because these plants are indigenous to bogs and swamps lacking vital minerals and nutrients in the growing medium, which are necessary for plant growth, they have radically adapted by becoming carnivores. When the plant captures its prey it will digest the insect extracting the necessary provisions unfound in the natural environment.
supplies included in Fly Trap Plant Cube
Now that you've gotten your education on how the Venus Fly Trap works, let me tell you about the Fly Trap Plant Cube. It includes a germination disk, a plastic planter, instruction pamphlet, and seeds. The instructions are easy to understand and follow but it is important to read them thoroughly so you follow procedure correctly.
Jason putting seeds in the soil
You will need room temperature distilled water to hydrate the germination disk. When you first have the disk, it is round and hard. But by putting it in to the water, it will dissolve and turn into the germination mixture. After doing that, you place the seeds into the soil and then cover the container with the lid to maintain humidity levels. It is best to place the container in a windowsill with an eastern or southern exposure. It is important to keep the soil evenly moist and check on it from time to time to ensure it is.
We've had the Fly Trap Plant Cube for only a couple of weeks now so we aren't sure how well the seeds will sprout. It will take one to three months to see any noticeable progress. That, of course, requires patience but we are anxious to see the results.
