Just released this month, Fireside Grown-Up Guides offer a darkly humorous and delightfully deadpan take on the complicated world around us. The series pairs images from beloved children’s books with subversive, knee-slapper text to address the uniquely modern problems facing today’s “Dicks and Janes”.
Right now there are four installations in the series:
THE FIRESIDE GROWN-UP GUIDE TO THE HANGOVER
a sample page reads: "For younger people, a hangover's symptoms are mainly physical. The body is listless, the head is sore; they crave food for no reason and spend a long time in the bathroom. For older people, this is perfectly normal. So, for them, a hangover is more spiritual."
THE FIRESIDE GROWN-UP GUIDE TO THE HUSBAND
a sample page reads: "Hugh moved to the country to give his family a better life. His journey to work in the city now takes three hours each way. He is only at home when his wife and children are asleep, which has given them all a better life."
THE FIRESIDE GROWN-UP GUIDE TO THE MOM
a sample page reads: "Louise's cup of coffee is going cold. There are six other cups of cold coffee on surfaces around the house. When the vacuuming is done, Louise hopes she will be able to find the time to throw them away."
THE FIRESIDE GROWN-UP GUIDE TO MINDFULNESS
a sample page reads: "Todd likes extreme mindfulness. Today he is emptying his mind on a tightrope high above the Galveston Shrimpworks. The people on the pleasure cruiser below hope that Todd doesn't empty any other part of his body."
All of the books are hardcover and are what I consider "pocked-sized". There's approximately 56 pages to each book. On one side is the wording and on the other side is an illustration. These books are not meant to be taken seriously; they make fun of the ways of the adult world and only reiterate what each of us have felt at one time or other.
Win It!
One person will win all four of The Fireside Grown-Up Guides.
