Random Tuesday Thoughts - Back Yards and June Bugs

It's been a few weeks since I've taken part in Random Tuesday Thoughts, so be prepared to be bombed with a lot of randomness.  You've been warmed!  If you'd like to play along, link up at Stacy Uncorked.

Is it sad that I watched two June Bugs doing the dirty before I started on this post?!

Whitney and Logan playing a game of Badminton

It took me almost two years but I came to the realization that I have a big back yard and it needs to be put to use.  I'm too lazy to take care of a pool so I've been purchasing Sports and Games stuff.  Logan got me the volleyball net and a volleyball for Mother's Day.  To mix things up a bit, I also got a Badminton set.

Jason had a friend of his create a Cornhole set.  The guy even put our names on them.  The Realtree brand bags were purchased on Amazon.

To add to it all, I found a custom made Washers set at a yard sale and snagged it up.  So, I'd say there's no shortage of things to keep us entertained.
Remember when I said a few weeks ago that Logan placed 3rd overall in the Bridge the Gap 5K race?  That's pretty impressive considering he competed against hundreds of other runners.  For some reason that I didn't really pay attention to, Logan actually didn't place third.  He got a call that he needed to meet with the organization and return his plaque and medal in lieu of other ones.  He'd actually won 2nd place!  That's good news for Logan.  Not so good for the guy who originally thought he placed second!
The left arm was the worst, but he had it everywhere.

Speaking of Logan, he's been keeping me on my toes lately.  He's so allergic to poison ivy that he contracted it from someone who touched someone with it.  So, we spent a couple weeks doctoring that up.

Then I ended up taking him to the ER a week ago because his right big toe was extremely infected and swollen.  From what, we still don't know.  Doc had to lance the toe and drain it of pus and blood.  I didn't realize Logan was so scared of needles.  I was rubbing his head and holding his hand like he was a pregnant woman in labor.

Not to parents of young'uns:  They grow up and still need their moms.

I put my name in for a drawing at a gas station and ended up winning this Mt. Dew cooler shaped like a bobber.  Haven't used it yet but it looks cool.

Logan and I went to the movies last week and watched Hotel Artemis.  Oh My Gosh!  It is So Good!  I didn't even have intentions of watching the film but I had free tickets and it's the only film that remotely interested me.  I've never been a fan of Jodie Foster but she killed it as an older doctor for criminals.  I'd give her an Academy Award.  I'm totally buying the movie when it comes out on DVD.

Darryl being interviewed by a member of local media

I'm not big into sports and only vaguely knew who Darryl Strawberry was.  I've always known he was some big shot in baseball, but that's it.  Darryl came to our church Father's Day weekend to deliver a sermon and it was powerful.  He went from a life of drugs, cancer and wild ways to now being a part of the preaching circuit.  I don't care who delivers a sermon as long as I get something out of it, but I have to give huge kudos to the guy.  He knocked it out of the field (sports pun intended!)
What's your randomness for the week?
How's your summer going?
Watch any good movies lately?  (Hotel Artemis...hint, hint)

You are right that a pool is too much work, what you have set up is much more fun and less labor intensive.

Congratulations to Logan and my sympathy on the poison ivy. Sweetie and i are also very allergic and have to get on a steroid pack if we come in contact with it, although i have found if you run a tub of warm water, add a cup of bleach and a cup of baking soda, and get it and scrub, it can help prevent a breakout if you think you have been exposed. When Sweetie would come in from the bayous (he was an archaeologist looking for Indian mounds in the swamps with the university), he would do that and there was poison ivy all over the place in those swamps. Most of the time he didn't break out if he did that as soon as he got home, and i laundered his clothes with bleach and baking soda, too.

That's great to know about Mr. Strawberry!

I didn't know Daryl Strawberry was preaching. A pool is too much work. The cooler looks awesome, congrats. And congrats to your son on placing 2nd. Bummer about the poison ivy and his toe!! I don't like needles either, I totally get it.

We have room for a pool, but I'm too lazy as well. My husband does tons of gardening though.
