Which Animal Is Fastest? - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Book Overview:

Quick, name the world’s fastest animal! Did you say cheetah? If so, you’re right – sort of. Sure, the cheetah can reach speeds over 70 miles per hour (mph); but did you know that there is a species of bird that can fly faster than a race car? Did you know that that’s not even the fastest animal there is? This “dashing dozen” of nature’s speediest species examines the fastest on land, air, and sea. This story will resonate with children taking standardized tests…one size does not fit all!

My Review:

I'm always excited when Arbordale Publishing releases new books each season.  The company has recently released four new books, with Which Animal Is Fastest? being one of them.

This book tells about menagerie of animals all competing to be the fastest.  King Lion declares the cheetah winner at the first race but all the other animals protest.  They are, in fact, the fastest in other areas.  For instance, a sea turtle is faster than any two or four legged animal in the water.  All the animals have a reason for "fast" bragging rights and declare their reasons.

King Lion decides to host an Olympics, with many different races in land, air and sea.  A charted diagram shows which animal is fastest in its category.  With the chart, readers can see who is fastest in what.  For instance, the fastest bird on land is the ostrich and the fastest crawler is the Black Mamba.  I was pretty amazed at the "Fastest Punch" fact that's earned by the Peacock Mantis Shrimp!

The "For Creative Minds" section at the back of the book further educates and entertains.  Readers will learn how animals move, how different animals have different strengths, how animals' bodies help them succeed in their environment, and speed sequencing.

Which Animal Is Fastest? is a Fall 2018 release by Arbordale Publishing.
