Creamy Cold Crab Dip - Recipe

My mother used to make a Cold Crab Dip and serve it at many of our big family dinners.  I was craving some the other day and decided to make it myself.  I changed the recipe up a smidgen.  The result was just as good as what she used to make.  She'd be proud.

Ingredients:

2 packages imitation crab meat
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup green onion, chopped
1/2 cup sour cream
1 package Hidden Valley Ranch mix
1 package cream cheese, softened

Using a food processor, combine crab meat, cheddar cheese and green onion.

In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, Ranch mix, and cream cheese.

Transfer ingredients from food processor to the ingredients in the large bowl and mix all together until well blended.

Cover and refrigerate the crab dip until it is thoroughly chilled.

Lotus Produce Bags - Review and Giveaway

In October of last year I did a review for the Lotus Trolley Bag, an environmentally friendly shopping bag system.  Now I have the pleasure of telling you about Lotus Produce Bags, created by the same company.  These bags help eliminate millions of wasteful, harmful plastic bags from our environment.

Lotus Produce Bags are sold as a set of 9 bags.  Consumers receive three of each size.  There's small (12"x8"), medium (12"x14") and large (12"x17").  Their main purpose, if you will, is to store produce.  Rather than putting your produce in one of those thin plastic bags the store provides, you can take one of the Lotus Produce Bags and put your fruits and veggies in there.  Once you get home, you can wash the produce while they're still in the bags, then place in the fridge until ready to use.

Lotus Produce Bags are made of nylon mesh and can be washed repeatedly.  The bags are double-stitched on the sides, and each one includes a drawstring that comes with a white lock to keep contents secure.  Although they are made of white mesh, you can still see through enough to get a glimpse of what is inside each bag.

Each size bag also has its own tare weight tag.  Not knowing what exactly that meant, I did an online search.  What it means with these bags is that the tag on the bags shows the weight of them as they are empty.  By subtracting it from the gross weight of the goods carried, the net weight may be determined.

I love using the Lotus Produce Bags for the original purpose, to store produce.  I've also used them for many other purposes.  The bags can be used for almost any reason you'd use a plastic single-use baggie.  For instance, you can use the smaller Lotus Produce Bag to store peanuts or candies.  The bags can be used for medicines and cosmetics.  They're perfect to take when traveling.  You can stuff wet socks, swimsuits, or other clothing in there to keep separate from dry clothes.

Lotus Produce Bags are durable, made well, and are useful for so many purposes.

Power of Prayer Thursdays - Week 160

Photo by Ben White on Unsplash

I believe in a God that hears prayers and answers them. I've witnessed the miraculous gift of answered prayer. And, I want to pray for you. I've started weekly Power of Prayer post every Thursday. We are now on week 160.  If you are needing prayer in an area of your life, please leave a comment and I'll commit to pray for your need or request. You can be as general or as specific as you like. Whether it be for healing, salvation, finances, emotions, or another area of life, I'd like to lift it up in prayer.

God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

Wordful Wednesday - Helping Others

Anya filling Ziploc bags with stuff

There are more people than not who've been affected by the Polar Vortex this year.  Winter's been brutal!  To help those who are homeless and impoverished during this time, our Life Group got together and stuffed backpacks with essentials.

We actually started this project in September of last year.  We are a community of around 41,000 and I was shocked to find out just how many homeless people live in our area.  We don't see them panhandling on the streets and the situation isn't necessarily right out in the open.  It wasn't until I started following a local guy on social media that brought light to the situation that I felt moved to help.

We purchased full-size backpacks on sale after the Back-to-School season, then filled them with all sorts of stuff.  Shampoos, deodorants, soaps, snacks, socks, gloves, hats, and more.  Then we got together on a Saturday evening to stuff the backpacks.  We ended up with 13 of them.

Me taking a selfie break during the sorting process

An opportune time became available to deliver the backpacks last week.  Due to the extreme cold, a local church opened its doors for people to come in and get warm.  They were able to spend the night and get a hot meal.  Although it's not the church we belong to, I spoke with the pastor and he agreed to let us deliver the backpacks there.  We did not personally hand out the bags.  Rather, we dropped them off and let the church do that.  Turns out, all bags got accounted for.

filled bags ready to be delivered

We didn't do it for any recognition or glory but to help others to receive items they might need.  I believe that blessing others, however small, brings both the giver and recipient joy.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Women's 2-Pack Venice Lace Padded Bra - Review

In my personal opinion, undergarments can help make or break how you feel.  I like bras that are comfortable, yet feminine.  The BCBGMAXAZRIA Women's 2-Pack Venice Lace Padded Bra I received for review, unfortunately, doesn't come in my size so my 25 yoa daughter has taken and added them to her wardrobe.  The sizes available for these bras start out at 34B and end with 38D.  If you're in that range, Shelby and I recommend this pack of bras to you.  This two-pack comes with one Rose Smoke (pinkish) bra and one black bra.

Shelby has worn the bras a handful of times and feels they give her ample coverage. She advises they're comfortable and the lace detailing is charming.   The straps stay in place and the underwire doesn't poke her skin.  They don't provide much cleavage but do provide much coverage.  They're very sensual, feminine bras.

Catherine Malandrino Women's 6-Pack Cotton Stretch String Bikini - Review

Don't freak out - I'm not gonna show you a pic of me in my undies.  Gotta keep it somewhat modest, ya know!

Now that you can be rest assured, I'd like to introduce you to Catherine Malandrino Women's 6-Pack Cotton Stretch String Bikini.  They're made to be soft, comfy, and provide full coverage.

The waistband is super comfortable and doesn't cut into my flesh.  The undies sit just right on my tummy, rather than my tummy feeling like a whale wrapped in a noose.   There are no tags to irritate my skin either.  The six-pack of underwear comes in assorted colors, mostly solids.

In my personal opinion, undergarments can help make or break how you feel. I'm not a fan of my underwear sneaking up in places that it's not welcome. These bikini undies provide full booty coverage.  Picking your underwear out of where the sun don't shine isn't exactly flattering. Not once have I had to partake in that embarrassment with these panties.  So far, so good when it comes to keeping their shape and elasticity.  I guess it's safe to say I like these panties!

Spa Day at the Heck Household

Last Friday my sister and her son came over for some spa fun.  Traci came loaded with all kinds of product.  My husband wanted no part of it and booked it out of there.  He went coyote hunting.  (Didn't come back with anything, so it was his loss all around.)

I think we made more of a mess than anything else but hey, we only live once!  I couldn't tell you for sure what we even put on our feet and faces.

And, yes, we even made Ozzy join in.  If you're gonna be at my house, you're gonna play my games!

Those are Ozzy's piggies me and Traci painted.  Vote: Which one you like better?!

Whatever stuff we put on our face was pretty fantastic.  Wish I remembered what it was.  My face felt so soft and so clean afterwards.

I can't say the same about what we put on our feet.  Whatever it was, my feet broke out in a rash and itched the entire next day.

Ah, the things we do for fun!

Hair Turban Robe LTE - Review and Giveaway

not me

I have a comfy robe at home that I love to wear around the house but it's not exactly ideal for wearing when I get right out of the shower.  And, while we're talking showers, I usually use one towel for my body and another for my hair.  The Hair Turban Robe incorporates both a robe and a turban all into one product, making it pretty nifty to wear right after you've washed off.

ME

I received the Hair Turban Robe LTE for review and have been using it quite a bit.  It is available in two colors and three sizes.  It is constructed of a light-weight waffle material, making it breathable and lightweight but still absorbent.  What makes it convenient is that I can throw on the robe right after I towel myself off, then throw my hair up into the attached turban.  Then I can get dressed when I'm ready.

There is a belt, also made of the same waffle material, to tie the robe around your waist.  The turban is held on by buttons and elastic loopholes, and can be detached.  There are also large pockets on each side of the robe.

Having my hair tied up in the turban keeps it out of my face when I'm applying makeup.  The material of the turban has the "waffle" texture to it.  The only thing that threw me off at first is that it looked like I was wearing a burka before I learned how to correctly use the turban.  I'm not knocking anyone that wears a burka but that's what it reminded me of.  The robe itself is full-length, and it's also great to throw on when coming out of a pool.

Win It!

One person will win a Hair Turban Robe LTE.

The Gift That I Can Give - Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Book Overview:

*Ages 4-8

*Help your children discover that they don’t have to wait until they are grownups to make the world a better place! The Gift That I Can Give helps children find unique ways to make a difference today in the lives of those around them. The beautiful new picture book was written by Kathie Lee Gifford and illustrated by Julia Seals.

*Kathie Lee Gifford is the three-time Emmy award-winning cohost of the fourth hour of the Today show, alongside Hoda Kotb. In 2015, Gifford was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. She has written four New York Times bestselling books. Former cohost of Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee, she is also a playwright, producer, singer, songwriter, and actress. Gifford has a passion for children and has been involved in numerous child-help organizations including Cassidy's Place and Cody House, named after her two children.

My Review:

Kathie Lee Gifford is a celebrity name that most of us recognize.  The gal's got some mad skills!  She can host, act, write, mentor and more.  Kathie's latest book, The Gift That I Can Give, explores the thoughts of a child as she wonders what gifts God has in store for her.  Will she take care of stray animals or raise money to help hungry kids?  This precious little girl shows that every person is given a gift, large or small.  All good things can be used to help others.  Readers ultimately learn that God's love is the gift that can always be given, no matter what!

A short story told in rhythmic form, The Gift That I Can Give is a motivating narrative that shows the ways kids can use their God-given talents.  I like this book for its ultimate message of how God loves each and every child and they can make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Win It!

One person will win a hardcover book copy of The Gift That I Can Give.

Super Bowl Sermon Better Than the Real Deal

Clayton taking his turn on stage

Every year, during Super Bowl weekend, our church has a one-off sermon called 30-Second Theology.  Our two Senior Pastors have absolutely no prep time and have to watch commercials from the previous year's Super Bowl.  They have to come up with a 3-minute takeaway on how that commercial can relate to Jesus or the Bible.  Those two are spot on every year!  I'm amazed with what they can come up with on the fly.

A big Super Bowl spread of food and Walking Tacos is available for everyone before and after service.  Attendees are encouraged to wear their football jerseys.  It's a ton of fun, but doesn't dismiss the real reason why we're at church.

This year the pastors were caught off guard when they started noticing signs and Fat Heads of their faces being held up.  They had no idea that was going to happen.  I'm not a football fan (except on Super Bowl Sunday) so I broke out an old roller derby referee shirt.

Are you #TeamJerry or #TeamClayton?

Okay, so, I have to admit I had more fun at the sermon than I did watching the Super Bowl.  I was rooting for the Rams simply because I wanted someone other than the Patriots to win A.G.A.I.N but neither team played real great.  I can't say much about the commercials because that's when I took the opportunity to do dishes.  (livin' the high life)  It was just me and Jason and a pound of bacon.

As for the Halftime Show, I've seen better and I've seen worse.  I'd give it a solid 5.  Maroon 5 wasn't too awful bad and the special effects would be cool in person, I think.  Adam's got a bod to be jealous of, but it wasn't really necessary for him to take his shirt off.  I feel like he low-key did it because he knew he'd get a rise out it.

So much attention was on Maroon 5 (and Adam's t-shirt resembling Home Goods decor) that not much was said about Travis Scott.  I was totally put off by him.  It was the first time I've heard his musical talent and he has the ability to rap but I wanted to hear music, not words being bleeped out.  And, I'm almost sure I heard him say the "N" word more than once.  Completely turns me off, even if you're someone of the race who has the okay to say it.

So there's my take on the Super Bowl.  Did you watch it?
Did the team you were rooting for win?
Been to church lately?  ;)

Formulate: Personalized Shampoo & Conditioner - Review and Exclusive Discount

I'm one of those girls who's not super loyal to any particular brand of hair care products.  I'm open to try most any kind, then decide from there if I will purchase it again.  Very cheap shampoos and conditioners don't usually work with my hair, so I will pay a little more for the ones that produce results.

For anyone interested in having shampoo and conditioner formulated precisely for their hair style and type, there's Formulate.  Based upon a set of questions that you answer, the company is able to create formulas that work best for you.  For instance, you'll be asked how long your hair is and if you have any grays, among other things.  You even get to choose from a list of scents preferred for your products.

A personalized Shampoo & Conditioner set (14 oz each) will run you around $49, or you can choose a Starter Set that is less in ounces for $19.95.  When you receive the shampoo and conditioner from Formulate, you will also receive a card detailing all the ingredients in the products.  Based upon my current hair condition and the fact that I want Anti-Frizz, my shampoo and conditioner contains Broccoli Seed Oil, Vitamin E, and Coconut-Based Soap.  I chose a strong Tidal scent that smells like a seashore and coconut.

Although I have not used it yet, consumers can download the Formualte App.  Using it, you can adjust your formulation settings.  It allows you to let the chemists know how well the ingredients have worked and things you might want to change for the next time.

I've been using Formulate for one month now and have noticed a positive difference in the way my hair feels.  The only thing I'd personally change is that I'd like the shampoo to have a little thicker consistency.  Every persons's hair is different and Formulate caters to each person individually.

If you'd like to try Formulate yourself, you can receive $5 off your order by using one of these exclusive discount code links:
