Maybe This Cat Will Last Longer Than Green Bean

Well, I wasn't necessarily looking for another cat.  If I was going to add another to the household, I wanted it to be similar to Green Bean.  Didn't happen that way, but it's okay.

My oldest step-daughter had ownership of a 1 year old female calico cat, Louis, but couldn't let it roam but just a couple of rooms because she also has a dog that was determined to make Louis its lunch. (Know that scenario all too well!)

Allyson reached out to me to see if I wanted to take over ownership of Louis.  It was either that or the Humane Society, according to her.  I fell for it Hook, Line, and Sinker.  Louis has been with us for a couple weeks now and seems to be adjusting nicely.

The first week was a tad apprehensive.  The other two cats weren't big fans.  But now all three deal with each other just fine.

Louis isn't anything like Green Bean.  She cuddles and snuggles on her own terms, and she's just a step above the laziness level of the other two cats.  She's taken a liking to Jason and wants his attention more than anything.  It's quite all right; I love her just the same.  Louis (aka LouLou, aka WowWow) is a welcome addition to our home.

As far as our dog, my son came from Tennessee about three weeks ago and took Helen home with him.  It took her a couple of days to get used to the new environment but I'm darn near positive she wouldn't come back here if  given the chance.  Adam's got that dog so darned spoiled.  He takes her on car rides almost nightly, plays fetch indoors, lets her sleep next to him, and buys her cheeseburgers on occasion.  She's definitely living the life.

2019 Rise Women's Conference

one of the many snack options/trays available
There was also a popcorn bar, chips station, pizza rolls, and chocolate covered pretzels

performers from the local high school drum line

Back in early November (just a couple months late posting...don't judge) I attended the annual Rise Women's Conference held at my church.  It's a Friday evening/Saturday morning event with speakers and activities for close to 1000 women.

This year had a Homecoming oriented theme.  I helped with decorations and the snack bar.  This was my favorite Rise conference yet.

QHS drum line

lead singer of That 80s band dressed as Debbie Gibson

Mandy Harvey of AGT fame as a speaker....Beyond inspirational and down-to-earth.

QHS Drum Line....amazing.

That 80's Band from St. Louis.......Great live band with music from the 80s.

The Crossing Worship Team.....sang uplifting music to get us pumped.

Friday was phenomenal.  I even had a couple friends over after to spend the night.  I'd like to talk about how Saturday went but I way overslept (by several hours) so never made it.

If you've never heard of Mandy Harvey, look her up!  It was at the conference that I first learned who she was.  Mandy is best known for being a finalist in America's Got Talent.  She has a voice that will tear at your soul and can play an instrument quite well.  And, unless she told you, I swear you'd never know Mandy is deaf.

Mandy, at the age of 19, lost all of her hearing.  She went through a season of self-pity and anger but put on her big girl panties and has made the best of it.  Because she can't hear the songs she writes/sings, Mandy uses different techniques to get the vibrations and vocals correct.  That girl is the epitome of inspiration!

Heck Of A Christmas Eve 2019

one of the photo props we took a million pictures with

Yep, it's another Christmas post!  We did a lot this year so I didn't want to cram it all in to one writing.  As with every year, we celebrated Christmas Eve at my sister's home with a lot of food, fun, and gifts.

This picture resonates to me for so many reasons.  It's my sister consoling my brother's mother-in-law.  She had been quite ill and in the nursing home/hospital for an extended period.  She came home a couple days before Christmas Eve and was so excited to be able to spend time with family.

my lottery ticket winnings

Because our family is so large, each person draws another person's name on Thanksgiving. This alleviates some of the financial burden associated with Christmas, which is especially nice since the free budget template I use never seems to account for the impact of Christmas; but I digress. We then buy that person a gift and give it to them on Christmas Eve.  This year I received a black backpack purse.

The adults played several games of Left Center Right.  We've all gotten used to bringing quarters and lottery tickets during family gatherings, knowing we're more than likely going to play LCR.  I won a bunch of lottery tickets but didn't win a bunch of money.  The weather was nice enough that we were even able to hang outside for a bit.

Christmas at The Crossing

me and Logan

The church I attend,  The Crossing, had four times for Christmas service.  I went to the Christmas Eve Eve one with my oldest son, oldest step-daughter, and a co-worker.  Jason was there too but he had to work so we saw little face time of him.

Allyson with friend, Jordan
Jordan works at the church alongside my husband.

My cookie decorating skills are on point!

The entire lobby and kid's area was set up with holiday props and photo opportunities.  Olaf made an appearance and made it snow.  A hot cocoa station and cookie decorating station was also available.  Best of all, we heard the message of the Good News!

Kids clamored to Olaf once they saw him.
Notice the snow coming down from the ceiling.

Hope you had a great Christmas!

Our Christmas Props Photo Opps

Just like every other year, Christmas Eve was spent at my sister's home with family.  This year we got silly with some photo props.  Here are some:

They swear I tooted.  Maybe I did, maybe I didn't.

It's best if you do it standing outside, so you get encouragement and hoops and hollers from people passing by.

Santa's got a baby comin' out his belly.

It's even better when the photographer presses on with words like "Work It", "Vogue", "Strike A Pose", and "Show Me What You're Workin' With".

My Take on Netflix's "Don't F**k with Cats" (Otherwise Known as "I'm Mind Blown")

So, I log in to Netflix the other day with the intention of binge-watching the second season of YOU.  Haven't even started it yet.  I got sucked into a rabbit hole watching Don't F**ck with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer.  What the what??!! I'm mind blown!  The 3-part docu series is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.  If you've seen it, please tell me what you thought. If you haven't, it's probably best kept that way.

This 3-part true crime series is based upon Luka Rocco Magnotta, a Canadian murderer who was convicted of killing and dismembering Chinese international student Jun Lin.  He's also infamous for posting videos of torturing and killing cats.

I'll try not to give spoilers, in case you want to watch this film but here's my takeaway:

Luka's mother is cuckoo for cocoa puffs.  She's in total denial and I have a feeling she's a few tools short in the shed.

If I ever end up endangered or murdered, call John Green and ....  (sorry, can't remember her name).  They've got some mad sleuthing skills and missed their true calling in life.  They have more madness and devotion invested into finding Luka than I've ever seen anyone do.

As the title implies, there's cats involved.  But not in a good way.  I literally had to stop the film about 10 minutes in and ask a friend if it was going to traumatize me.  I still felt quite uneasy watching this series.  You don't see straight murder scenes but not much is left to the imagination.  Pop a happy pill and a Xanax before watching;  You're going to need it.

Luka Rocco Magnotta takes cray cray to a whole new level.  He's also a genius and/or had too much time on his hands.  "Idle hands are the devil's work."  Who has the time or gumption to go through all that staging and planning?!  He's the top-level definition of a narcissist.

Because Luka supposedly based part of his killings on the Basic Instinct film, Jason and I watched it the other night.  I can see some similarities.  If you're behind on the times like I am and haven't seen Basic Instinct yet, it's basically soft core porn disguised as a thriller.

Being blamed for watching the documentary almost made me feel accosted.  How dare somebody tell me I'm to blame for Luka's crossed wires!  I ended up watching a deleted clip, though, that gave a better insight on why the audience might be accused of being monsters in this madness.

So, have you seen the show?  What's your take?
