Baby Shower for Grandson-To-Be

Diamond Painting I crafted and my husband framed that we gifted to Nicole

Sometime in October I will be welcoming my second grandson into the world, Waylon Eric.  To celebrate, I held a low-key baby shower for mama-to-be.  My son was unable to attend because he was at work, but it was still a nice gathering.

Allyson and I planned the baby shower with a cactus/southwest theme.  Another friend recently had a shower in her honor and offered for us to use her decorations.  So, we scored on that front.  We also lucked out in that the venue didn't cost to use.  We used the annex building behind the church.

Nicole with a set of onesies she received

As far as food, we set up a nacho bar that included tortilla chips, cheeses, sauces, chopped burger, and beans.  Baby Mama didn't want a cake or cupcakes.  Her request was brownies and fruit salad.  Easy enough!

Logan was one of the few guys that attended and he won the jar of Hershey's kisses by guessing the closest amount in the jar.

The games were simple and quick.  We did a Baby Words Unscramble game, Match Baby Animals to their Mama game, and a Guess How Many Kisses in the Jar game.  Afterwards, Nicole opened her gifts.

It was simple, yet fun.  And baby Waylon was graced with many gifts.  Can't wait till he gets here!

Manly Man Co Edible Gifts - Review and Giveaway

My husband isn't hard to buy for. He's not super picky and likes most anything given to him. I'll admit, though, that I'd personally rather gift him something that's unique or entertaining rather than another package of socks or shirt. A company that definitely fits his personality is Manly Man Co., with their collection of food gifts for men.

One of Jason's favorite snacks is jerky, and he was super stoked to receive the Beef Jerky Flower Bouquet from Manly Man Co.  Each bouquet's "vase" is a Manly Man pint glass and is pre-arranged, sealed and packaged fresh with oxygen absorbers in a stylish branded box. The bouquet is delivered fully assembled.  There are four available flavors; Jason received Original.

The jerky is cut to resemble petals and stems, forming a jerky bouquet.  Rather than flowers, your man is getting an arrangement of jerky heaven.  The pint glass has the Manly Man Co. logo on front and can be kept and used as a drinking glass.  Jason claims it's "his" glass for "his" tea.

It didn't take long after presenting Jason with the beef jerky bouquet that he started snacking.  He was very impressed with the taste and texture of the beef jerky.  Because he didn't eat it all at once, he did put the remaining pieces in a resealable bag to keep them fresh until it was time to snack again.  Now that I know how impressed Jason was with the Beef Jerky Flower Bouquet, I'm going to shop Manly Man Co. in the future.  I like the various food gifts they offer and the way they are presented.

Win It!

One person will win a Beef Jerky Flower Bouquet.

My Review:

Being a blogger has given me the opportunity to review many cookbooks throughout the years.  A recent one that I'm excited to let you know about is The Unofficial Hogwarts Cookbook for Kids.  Harry Potter fans of all ages will find an assortment of delicious recipes that can be tied to the popular series.

This hardcover recipe book is filled with pictures and recipes in different categories, ranging from dinner and dessert to breakfast and lunch.  Additionally, there's a section with common recipe terms and proper ways to cook safely.  Some of the recipes are fairly easy and others are a little more advanced.  None of them seem to be overly extensive or hard for a kid to make.  Each recipe includes a colored picture of the finished product.  I think this cookbook is mostly geared towards tweens or young teens who need little to no supervision in the kitchen.

Lamp Angel Standard Electric Table Lamp - Review

I have plenty of overhead lighting in my home but haven't owned any lamps, until I received the Lamp Angel Standard Electric Table Lamp for review.  This tabletop lamp has been a great accent piece in my living room, both for lighting and for all its fun features.

Before using the lamp, you will need to do some quick and easy assembly.  A light bulb is included.   It's important to read the instructions because they give details on how to operate the color change function and how to prepare the lamp for emergency use.

One neat feature of this lamp is the color changing LED lights. Another is that you can schedule the light to turn on and off, with your smartphone. Plus, if there’s ever a power outage, the lamp stays on when power goes out.  Better yet, these lamps charge phones and tablets with no electricity. The patented technology means the LED lamp automatically switches on when the power goes out, providing 16-24 hours of light and charging power.

The Lamp Angel comes with a small remote that you can use to change the lights in the base.  You want red strobe lights?  There's a remote for that!  You want flashing blue lights?  The remote can do that too!  You want lights that go from one color to another in a slow fade?  Yep, grab the remote!

If you don't want to use the handy dandy remote, you can change the colors and light style by downloading an app on your Smartphone.  As long as the emergency switch is turned on at the side of the lamp, it will charge and the light will automatically come on if power is lost.  You can also charge your phone with or without electricity by using the USB power port.

If all of these features don't excite you, I'm not sure what will.  This is a next-level lamp!

My Recent Amazon Prime Purchases

I frequently read of bloggers who post their Amazon Prime Purchases.  I enjoy reading those posts because it gives me ideas of stuff I might want to buy for myself.  I've been using Amazon Prime quite a bit lately (16 orders in the past 3 months) and here are a few things I've purchased:

Cuisinart C55-12PCKSAM 12 Piece Color Knife Set with Blade Guards (6 knives and 6 knife covers)

I didn't necessarily need a new set of knives but the colors and designs caught my eye.  I'm very impressed with how well they cut through food and they're the knives I now reach for when I need to slice and dice.

--------------------------------

My mother and I used to play this game quite a bit when I was a teenager.  It's one of my favorite card games and I recently purchased it to play during downtime while at camp.  I've taught a few other campground friends how to play, so now I can again enjoy the game that brings back fond memories.

-----------------------------

I've been doing a lot of diamond painting kits these last few months.  I purchased this cactus themed one as a gift for a baby shower.  Once finished, my husband made a wooden frame so it could be hung in baby's bedroom.

-------------------------------------

I'm hosting a baby shower for my son and his lady later on today.  As one of the activities, I purchased these cardboard baby raffle cards.  Each one has a round scratch-off sticker on its diaper.  The person who reveals the poopy diaper is the winner of a prize.  I think it'll be fun.

----------------------------

I just received this package of nail glue in the mail yesterday.  I don't normally wear artificial nails but found some at the store that I liked.  I'm gonna find out just how well I can apply them, considering it's been a long time.  Wish me luck!

Do you have any recent Amazon Prime purchased you'd recommend?

The Mayonnaise Cookbook: 50 Savory and Sweet Recipes Starring the World's Best Condiment - Review and Giveaway

Overview:

Move over, Ketchup and Sriracha! It’s time to celebrate the greatest condiment of all-time: Mayonnaise!

Mayonnaise is one of the most versatile yet divisive condiments. Some slather it on anything they can find, while others avoid eating it at all costs. Whether you love it or hate it, this cookbook is sure to turn any mayo skeptic into a believer and have every mayo enthusiast jumping for joy!

Ranging from appetizers, side dishes, salad dressing, desserts, and more, you’ll get a taste for just how delicious mayonnaise can be, with tasty recipes like Angel Eggs; Elote Street Corn; Lobster Roll; Pimiento Cheese-Stuffed Burgers; Grilled Cheese; Bang Bang Shrimp; Mayo-Pesto Seared Steak; Chocolate-Mayo Cupcakes and much more!

“Mayonnaise, lovingly referred to as mayo, is the creamy white condiment that so many people like me just cannot get enough of. It is the most popular condiment in the United States, with sales greater than $2 billion annually, outselling even ketchup and barbecue sauce,” author Erin Isaac said. “Mayo is the most versatile condiment of them all and can be used for so much more than sandwiches. In this cookbook, you will find mayo in foods from crab cakes all the way to cupcakes!”

Slather it up with the first-ever cookbook guaranteed to turn you, your friends, and your family into major mayo connoisseurs!

My Review:

Of all condiments, mayonnaise is my favorite.  We go through our fair share in the household.  So, I was beyond excited when I learned there is a cookbook dedicated to all things mayo.  The Mayonnaise Cookbook has so many recipes that I'm stoked to try.

Other than the fact that the pages don't always lay flat, this cookbook is one of my favorite I've owned.  Not only does it have so many recipes (some I've made and more I plan on making) but it also full of tips, pointers, facts and strategies.  The cookbook is divided into different sections, with 50 recipes and illustrations to help you create a delicious appetizer, sandwich, or meal.

We've cooked up a few of the recipes already, with plans to make more. The recipes do not require high-dollar ingredients.  As a bonus, there's a section with diagrams for volume, temperature, and weight conversions.  Also, there's a few hacks on ways to use mayo outside of the kitchen.  For instance, mayo works great as a cuticle softener.  You can even learn how to make your own mayo!

I'm not a cookbook collector, but I'm sure this is one I will keep and refer to often. There are loads of meals that I can't wait to still try.

Win It!

Earth Baby Bath Essential Kit - Review

My first grandson, Henry, is six months old and I have another grandson on the way in October.  Times have changed since I had my children, and I'm excited to find out about all the products available for little ones now.  Earth Baby is one such company that I've recently discovered.  Allyson has been using the Bath Essential Kit on Henry and is quite pleased with how effective and gentle it is on his skin.

As a complete set, the Bath Essential Kit would make a great baby shower gift or as a purchase for your little one.  The four full-size bottles include Shampoo + Body Wash, Conditioner + Detangler, Bubble Bath, and Moisturizing Lotion.  As an added bonus, it comes packed in a reusable organic cotton zipper pouch.

Henry's skincare routine has included the items from the Bath Essential Kit.  The light fragrances aren't overbearing, the lotion isn't greasy, and the bath products have the right amount of lather.  And, I have to admit, I like the bright brand packaging.

Earth Baby's products are certified organic and good for baby's skin.  Committed to using certified organic fruit and vegetable-based ingredients, Earth Baby’s products are non-toxic. Earth Baby’s founder donates 1% of all sales to two incredible organizations (Preface Project Foundation and Folded Flag Foundation) that build a better tomorrow and impact our community by fostering opportunities for the next generation as a token of gratitude to those that helped her along the way.

You can sleep like a baby knowing that Earth Baby products have been clinically tested so they’re gentle on your baby’s skin.

Henry's Halfway To One!

Our first grandson, Henry Maddex, is halfway to one!  He is an absolute joy to be around.  The boy's got a personality as big as his smile, and he's a spitting image of his mama when she was little.

Henry's aunt, Juliann, makes sure he knows which team and which sport rules!

It won't be long before we are blessed with another grandson.  Next weekend I'm hosting a baby shower for my son and his lady.

Aren't babies just the cutest?!
